i had some pics of a wingless tube shaped thing in the sky  to add but i haven't found them yet in my collection of sky and flower pics..i will keep looking to add
but i am seeing a connection here between the stories of cigar shaped airsips and this article about the development of such..
as far as them dissappearing..hey testing technology is never disclosed ahead of marketing..so who knows.
i have always thought that most, say 80%, of the unidentified objects were from here
what are you seeing in the sky?

local guy who's done this stuff forever Stan Gordon..sigthing is listed a tthe link

Latest Sightings!
September 27, 2011
UFO Sighting
Charleroi, PA
The witness was outside in his yard around 9 pm, when his attention was drawn to the sky by what looked to be a row of very bright windows. As the man continued to watch, he noticed the dark outline of a cigar shaped object as it moved straight across the clear sky at a steady fixed pace, and slower than an aircraft would fly. The row of luminous windows on the cigar shaped object appeared to be rectangular in shape, not the semi-round shape of a normal passenger aircraft. The luminosity of these windows was extremely bright, and the object did not display normal navigational lighting. The object was estimated to be below 5,000 feet in altitude, and there was no apparent sound. The sighting observation lasted about two minutes.

yikes..forgot to add the other sighting..and i should also add we have  a strong military as well as many air facilities around here

UFO Sighting
Saxonburg, PA-Butler County
At about 9 am, a man was traveling on Rt. 228 at about 45 mph. when he observed something off to his left. About a ¼ mile away he noticed a large object hovering over a field. What he saw looked like a big cigar, or "like an airplane with no wings." The object appeared to hover over a field about 200-250 feet off the ground. The sun was glaring off the side of the object. The fuselage shape appeared to be stainless steel or chrome and was very shiny. In the center of the object there appeared to be a darker area, about 10% of the length. The witness estimated that it was 180-200 feet in length from that distance. There were no lights visible. The witness had pulled off the road to the left into a parking lot where 5-7 other cars had pulled over to look at the object. The man said he was very excited and called his wife after watching it for about four minutes. He then realized that he might have a camera and started looking for it. He was about to take a picture when the object suddenly just "vanished" and was not seen again.

New generation of airships to transport goods around the world
By Richard Gray, Science Correspondent

Airships are set to return to the skies in a Nasa project aimed at revolutionising the way cargo is transported around the world.

...
The first prototype is expected to make its maiden voyage next year and scientists leading the project predict airships capable of carrying hundreds of tonnes of cargo at a time will be airborne by the end of the decade.

It comes more than 70 years after the Hindenburg disaster, which brought an end to the earlier airship era.

....

As well as carrying cargo, the new craft could also have military applications – providing logistic support – and Nasa is working with the US Department of Defense, as well as a range of private companies, to develop the new vehicles.

The prototype airship is being built with California-based company Aeros, who have developed a new system that allows the buoyancy of the airships to be altered without loading or offloading material.

........

Instead, the new ships – starting with prototype, the Aeros Pelican – will carry compressor tanks that can add or remove helium to bladders inside the airship to adjust its altitude

A rigid structure using carbon composite fibre instead a metal structure also allows the airship to lift far heavier loads than earlier airships could.

Engineers have also modified the old cigar shaped Zeppelin design for a flatter and more aerodynamic shape

.........

The new generation of airships will be vertical take off vehicles that land on rough terrain without the need for infrastructure, like specialist landing pads. This would make loading and unloading them far easier.

They could also be fitted with solar cells, to increase their efficiency

....

In a separate development, a British company last month signed a new deal with a Canadian aviation company that could lead to 45 new airships capable of lifting 50 tonnes. Hybrid Air Vehicle, which is based in Cranfield, say they will be capable of travelling at 115mph.

........
ah-ha, here's the real reason for our sightings imo
It has also recently delivered an airship to the US Army for use in surveillance, but it is also capable of being modified  to carry more than 10 tonnes of cargo.
