2012 UFO 'Cover-Up' Debate

I thought that our members would be interested in this radio debate between two of the most prominent figures in modern UFO research.  The debate was recorded in February this year and was hosted by another prominent personality in the field, Leslie Kean.  for more on who these people are, see below.

To listen to the debate click on the link to Inception Radio.

Richard Dolan

QuoteRichard M. Dolan is the author of the ground-breaking historical series, UFOs and the National Security State, which chronicles the modern UFO age with an emphasis on military encounters and government secrecy. This work has been acclaimed as the finest history of the UFO phenomenon available in any language.

Dolan has also published articles, spoken at conferences around the world, and appeared on numerous TV specials as an on-air expert. He has developed fresh insights into the practical challenges and opportunities for a true disclosure of the UFO phenomenon.

Prior to his interest in UFOs, Dolan was a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship, studying U.S. Cold War strategy, Soviet history and culture, and international diplomacy.

Dolan recently released a book with co-author Brce Zabel called, "A.D. After Disclosure: The People's Guide to Life After Contact".

QuoteThe second volume in Richard Dolan's historical trilogy of the UFO phenomenon and cover-up. Using archival sources from the U.S. and Canadian National Archives, professional journals, and direct investigations and interviews, historian Richard Dolan provides a detailed analysis of the critical UFO encounters by military and civilians worldwide. He also studies the politics of the UFO cover-up and our attempts to understand the mystery.Described as "Masterful" by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, and as "essential reading" by former Ministry of Defence official Nick Pope

Dr John Alexander

Alexander is a highly controversial figure.  He is an "Aviary" member with links to Jamie Shandera and Bill Moore.  He has conducted important studies on non-lethal weapons and accused of being involved with mind control and UFO disinformation programs.  I intend to cover this person and his influence on UFOlogy in more detail later.  It is not a simple matter. ;)

QuoteWhile in the military he formed an ad hoc interagency group to study aerial phenomena (UFOs). This is a little known aspect of his work as the group insured no paper trail existed that could be traced by outsiders.  Col. Alexander briefed many senior officials on this topic.  Until recently he worked part-time for the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), a private research organization dedicated to exploring the UFO topic. His book, UFOs: Myths, Conspiracies, and Realities will be released by St. Martin's Press, February 2011 {In fact the book has now been released, see below}

QuoteA never-before-heard firsthand account of a government insider's experience on the cutting edge of UFO exploration

While still on active duty in the U.S. Army during the 1980s, Colonel John B. Alexander, Ph.D., created an interagency group to explore the controversial topic of UFOs. Participants came from the Army, Navy, Air Force, CIA, NSA, DIA, and the aerospace industry. All members held Top Secret clearance. What they discovered was not at all what was expected. UFOs covers the numerous cases they saw, and answers questions like:
• What was really in Hanger 18?
• Did a UFO land at Holloman Air Force Base?
• What happened at Roswell?
• What is Majestic 12?
• What is the Aviary?
• What does the government know about UFOs?
• What has happened with disclosure in other countries?
• Has the U.S. reverse engineered a UFO?
• Why don't presidents get access to UFO info?
UFOs is at once a complete account of Alexander's findings, and a call to action. There are no conspiracy theories here—only hard facts—but they are merely the beginning. Serious research is needed in order to understand and anticipate the workings of UFOs, and John Alexander is leading the charge

Leslie Kean

Quoteinvestigative Journalist and author of UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the record.  She has contributed articles to dozens of publications here and abroad including the Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Providence Journal, International Herald Tribune, Globe and Mail, Sydney Morning Herald, Bangkok Post, The Nation, and The Journal for Scientific Exploration. Her stories have been syndicated through Knight Ridder/Tribune, Scripps-Howard, New York Times wire service, Pacific News Service, and the National Publishers Association. While spending many years reporting on Burma, she co-authored Burma's Revolution of the Spirit: The Struggle for Democratic Freedom and Dignity (Aperture, 1994) and she has contributed essays for a number of anthologies published between 1998 and 2009. Her freelance journalism has been supported by grants from numerous foundations including the Open Society Institute of the Soros Foundation, The Fund for Investigative Journalism, and the Nation Institute.

Kean was also a producer and on-air host for a daily investigative news program on KPFA radio, a Pacifica station in California. She began covering the UFO subject in 2000 with a feature story in the Boston Globe, and followed with additional mainstream stories. In 2002, she co-founded the Coalition for Freedom of Information (CFi), an independent alliance advocating for greater government openness on information about UFOs, and for responsible coverage by the media based on a rational and credible approach. As director of the CFi, she was the plaintiff in a successful, five-year Freedom of Information Act federal lawsuit against NASA. In 2007, she co-organized a landmark Washington DC international press conference on official UFO investigations, which received media coverage around the world.

Kean was a producer for the 2009 independent documentary I Know What I Saw and is currently working with Break Thru Films, an award-winning film company, on a new feature documentary. She and her coalition have launched an ongoing initiative to affect US government policy so that scientists and aviation authorities can gain greater understanding of the still-unexplained UFO phenomenon.

If the length of the opening post scares you, don't worry.  Only the first section is essential reading.  the biographies are just background. :)

Of those 3, Leslie Kean's book is possibly the most factually accurate.

I like Alexander to a degree.  However, I have some points where I think he might have pulled a fast one on his readers.   I may get around to reviewing/critiquing his book.  Don't forget, John Alexander is linked to Moore and Shandera (I think John Lear knows him too).  That will take ages though so won't be for a while.  I also don't want to show all my cards yet. ;)

There are places where he might well be plain wrong too.  For a start he says that just because he was an insider in the military with many clearances, and he talked to many insiders (including Generals in charge of R&D), who told him they knew of no government or Black project dedicated to ET research then there wasn't one. That because his group could find no ET cover up then there isn't one.

What is wrong with that logic?

stealthyaroura

i shall go with that one then Pimander, i can't really have all 3.
there comes a time where all the info is just regurgitation, little bits of fiction added
to an already dubious story etc.
I do have a decent collection of UFO / paranormal topic books and you tend to find out
who the decent authors are as opposed to those in it for profit, and there are far to many
of the latter type.
one day maybe Ron S & John L may write a book in print i do hope so.that would be gold.
i have asked zorgon but he's a busy guy.one day maybe.

Oh yes, what is wrong with John Alexander's logic?  Aside from his association with known disinformation agents, there is an obvious problem with Alexander's logic....

Alexander writes books on UFOs.  He attends conferences and is associated with writers on UFOlogy.  If these guys he has spoken to to find out about a covert ET research program and black project, that Alexander himself says is potentially treasonous if the President has been kept in the dark, then would they tell him?  Clearly not!  Furthermore, if he is "in the loop" about classified programs then he can't discuss the classified parts anyway.

Do I make sense or do I make perfect sense?  ???   :o

If Alexander has a role (and don't get me wrong, I agree with him that we already have pretty much smoking gun evidence of ET craft) it is partly in managing the public perception of UFOs.

stealthyaroura

maybe Alexander is a disinformation plant,i have no reading material on the guy
only what i have seen in documenterys. maybe his military credentials have blinded
people from the truth?
I do recall him saying Roswell did not happen & if it was alien he would know.
That is some statement! Any more info you care to share on him Pimander?
you seem to have a good grasp on the guys way of thinking.

Make perfect sense to me Pim  ;D

Given that there are so many layers to all information, being that in a group of close friends, or at the workplace  and even at the most inane place where you would not think it possible (Like Tibetan Yogic Practises LOL)

How someone can come out and write a book stating its the fact because they knew a few brass is silly beyond doubt.  1950's America Subscribtion of ET Magazine Eat ya Heart out LOL

More than silly.

"There is no cover up of a secret UFO research program?"

If it was secret, like you would be allowed to publish it as an Army Intelligence Officer!

My logic is simple.  If there is no program, Alexander does not know because there isn't one.  If he does know, it is secret and he can't talk.

Or he is pure disinfo mind control agent anyway. :P  :o

Somamech

Exactly :D

Today in Oz we had a UFO File released...

Secret UFO files released

http://www.theage.com.au/technology/sci-tech/secret-ufo-files-released-20120804-23mhq.html

QuoteBut in late May, the department's FOI assistant director, Natalie Carpenter, delivered a reply that seemed almost designed to set online chat rooms alight with conspiracy chatter.

The only file Defence was able to locate was titled ''Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera''; the others had been destroyed.
