 ;D

I have never heard that first record A51 - sadly the second track wouldnt play  :(

My mum and dad where into C&W, some of it was total dross, but there were a few artists that I thought were world class musicians and singers' - Jim was one of those legends -

Talking of great voices, here is a little offering, curtesy of the Welsh -  ;D :D :)

Fansongecho out...   8) 8)

The second one that wouldn't play for ya was -

Dancefloor Saints - Mr. Tambourine Man (Offcast Project Radio Edit)

And the one you couldn't get last week was -

One Brief Moment (Klute Remix)

Do a YT search and see if you can get one that works.

Careful with those Time Tunnel controls m8 or we'll wind up in the Mersey Beat!  ::)

Actually there is a lot of cool swingin stuff in Country music.

Rockabilly for one, elements of Bop and Boogie Woogie for another.

Early Rock and Roll had elements of each.

Then those sneaky bastids The Beatles came along and supercharged everything.

Check out the Country licks as well as Rockabilly in these early tunes -

I'll Cry Instead

Act Naturally

I'm A Loser

Baby's In Black

I Don't Want To Spoil The Party

I Got You

That, combined with harmonies matching the Everly Brothers put them at the top of every genre mentioned above.

As soon as they managed to get airplay over here, their early 45 sales went through the roof like no one had ever seen before.

About every 3rd or 4rth song on the radio was theirs all day long.

Beatlemania was for real. Teens and preteens alike were all locked into this. They recognized this contained the best elements of all the genres they had heard up till now, and that this was a new blend of these elements. Little Richard dug it too and showed McCartney how to do the falsetto on 'Long Tall Sally'.

It was quickly realized it was time to get a tour in motion. Thus, the art of stadium tours was born. The horrors for the soundman presented a new challenge each night using only sports announcers PA systems as can be heard. These horrors also were hell for the musicians because often they couldn't hear themselves either. The result was the 1964 tour was pretty sub par all the way around.

The ticket sales however were not.

The exception was The Hollywood Bowl show.

The 1965 tour was often plagued by the same problems BUT, there were a few instances when they played a few venues when they could actually hear themselves and they took full advantage. The top example is of course The Hollywood Bowl show. They were firing on all cylinders both appearances and dropped the bomb.

In this time zone, this was the shiz.
(I recommend the original release and not the new one.  :P

I was recently pleasantly surprised to find another decent show from that 1965 tour, in Houston. The differences in timing, vocals and licks are quite interesting.

Poster of the video says "If you enjoyed the Hollywood Bowl, you may like this  8/19/65 Houston treatment.  The vocals can be rough here and there (esp. at 0:38 secs!) and the screaming is loud -- but it's still an enjoyable listen."

Quite a few country licks in this one too. Enjoy.

"And here they are... THE BEATLES!!" AAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHH  8)

00:04 - Twist and Shout
01:27 - She's a Woman
04:16 - I Feel Fine
06:25 - Dizzy Miss Lizzy
09:30 - Ticket to Ride
11:48 - Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby
13:54 - Can't Buy Me Love
16:05 - Baby's In Black
18:16 - I Wanna Be Your man
20:23 - Hard Day's Night
22:55 - Help!
25:14 - I'm Down

This time zone borders The Mersey Beat, as evidenced by the early Beatles themselves dabbling in that genre -

Words Of Love

Fortunately they managed to jump to a new time zone -  ;)  8)

This is when they began to display their heavy Southern Soul influence using a style known as 'The Shuffle'.

Jimi Hendrix and Billy Preston came to dig it as well.

Doctor Robert

Lady Madonna

One After 909

Hi A51, it is most excellent to see and hear and read your posts on the Beetles, and other musical influences buddy, you are obviously a Beetles (and music in general) aficionado  8) 8) major kudos to you my friend!

I grew up in the 60's and 70's and it pains me greatly to say this ...  but...  there are only a handful of the Beetles records I actually like m8 ..  I had two cousins who are / were totally nuts about them, but growing up I really could take them or leave them, I am not denying of course the maaaahooosive influence that they had on popular culture and music in general -

Please do keep sharing your knowledge though A51 - I am fascinated by music and the many genres out there, I don't have any classical schooling in music, I am most likely one of those people who visit Art Gallery's who say, I don't know much about art but I know it when I see it (I think)  :)

Time Tunnel! I loved that series m8  ;D :D  - that and the Original Lost In Space "Danger Will Robinson" (I just finished the Netflix Season-1 of the same, and really enjoyed it.

These guys rocked my boat first time I heard any of their music -

Peace Out...  Fansongecho  8) ;D

Ah yes... Who's Next album. Classic.

I managed to see them on the Eminence Front tour here! In fookin credible!  :o

But yeah see The Beatles came along when all we had was Mersey and Fat Elvis at that time and that was it as far as pop rock. Other than that it was all quiet on the western front.

Whatcha gonna do, head bang to Petula Clark with 'Downtown!' ??  ;)  8)

But she was in with the in crowd, so it was cool.  ;)

But that was the state of pop at that time. Slightly ahead of Sound of Music but not by much.

Kids were restless and ready for somethin new.

But their sales figures we SO insane they ended up dictating their terms to record companies and arena's, and they caved. This had never been done.

So yeah their early days were extremely influential in many ways, but especially for blending the best of many genres in new ways.

So fire up the time tunnel and lets have a look at some of the sources I mentioned to prove it.

First a little Country square dance, check out the Rockabilly riffs!  8)

Freddie Hart - The Keys In The Mailbox

This Honkytonk uses all the classic power chords Pete Townsend and Jimmy Page became famous for. Just speed up the rhythm for classic Rockabilly.

Lorrie Morgan - Go Away

And here's some County Bop, with a smoooth Rockabilly guitar solo -

HANK THOMPSON - Six Pack to Go

A51Watcher

Rockabilly with classic power chord structures.

Hank C. Burnette - Patsy

Hank C. Burnette - Stingy
