well according to his unofficial biography, SKYWALKING, the story is part buddhist, part protestant christian, part hindu, etc.  he tossed in the whole kit and kaboodle.  yoda was a zen buddhist "master" with a few christian bits here and there.  now i did not know the zen was actually an offshoot of mahayana. in fact, i didn't know there were two major types of buddhism:  theraveda and mahayana.   when i found out this little factoid, it dawned on me that he was a mahayana and sure enough, zen is an offshoot of mahayana.
