Hello All,

I accidentally let an infection get away from me on my left foot and now I have to have 2 toes amputated in order to save my foot

In order to help cover the expense of the surgery I am going to offer my toes for sale or at auction on E-Bay.

I will have an autographed photo of myself on the jar.

If anybody has any ideas for size or type of jar or what kind of fluid to put in the jar to keep the toe fresh I would greatly apprecate it.

No date for the surgery is set yet as there are a couple of tests they have to do to confirm surgery is needed. The toe bone is already sticking out of the skin so there is not much chance of saving it.

All the best and thanks for your help,

John

Wishing you all the best!

To keep the toe fresh, you will need Toe Jam!

May you be infection free!

There are some good ones available from DULCE LABS

You could use mason jars but they can pop open easily

Does Ebay allow body parts in their auctions?   :o

:o Sorry to hear that.

Toss it in a large bottle of tequila.   ;)

So sorry to hear of the issues, John.  I wish I had advice on container and fluid.  I might suggest formaldehyde...but that's so passé...

Hey, John, infections are pretty serious stuff, especially when amputation is in the cards..I wish you the best, sir..and a speedy recovery.

As for whatever to preserve the toes in..Plastination is the most current method..heres a link..not sure where to call, but until you can find someone, formaldehyde is the stuff. Plastination replaces the fats with plastic effectively preserving the specimen for a very long time, stablility wise.

Perhaps calling a taxidermist?

Time was, when people could take theiir body parts home in a jar of alcohol.  Now it's all considered biohazard waste.  Sending healing energy your way John.  Watch your bloood sugar!

Sorry to hear about your foot John.  :(I had a relative who started out that way but it would not heal after the operation .

They kept having to take more off until it ended up being the whole foot and up to mid calf before it would heal. I sure hope that will not be the case for you .

You are not having trouble with your blood sugar are you ? My relative had diabetes which was the main reason for the lack of healing .

Any way on a lighter note : how about some of that fancy Brandy you like so well in a mason jar with your toe in it !!

Nothing but the best for your toe John , plus with the good Brandy in there it should bring a better price right? ;D
When you die you will find out that John Lear was right..........Hoss

I mentioned blood sugar because poorly controlled blood sugar is a commoncause of lower limb amputation.  It often starts with a toe or two, then just keeps going.  Chronic high blood sugar is known to cause nerve and ciculatory damage.  Nerve damage can cause numbness, so you don't realize you're hurt.  It can also cause constant burning pain, so you don't realize your hurt, because that pain is being masked.  The circulatory damage means that the blood isn't getting the nutrients and oxygen to the area.  Not trying to go all TMI here, just sharing some education.  I've seen the before and after of diabetic foot problems.  The after is actually prettier, which is disturbing, since it means that body parts are gone.

True, Shasta, I had an elderly friend who lost a foot after burning it with hot water in the tub..he couldnt feel it too well and scalded it by turning the heat up too high..:(

It eventually took his entire foot due to his diabetes..he lived on though, quite ok with a bit of help...until he passed a few years back.

Another off topic fact about him was he was a victim of either MK Ultra or some other test entity when in the Army..remember him from the Token when we talked about him? Frank McGavock?

He was a great man, who gave all for his country and I will never forget him. He is sorely missed.

John, you have many people here with your health in our hearts, you too are a special man like Frank and I personally wish you the best through your operation.

And if you take Hoss' advice, Remy Martin VSOP works good to make things feel better!;)

Be well, sir,

Dave

John.

Sorry let me Rephrase that:

Dear Captain John Lear,

It has come to my attention that You are the most extreme person that has changed a small population in this experience here on Earth.  I compelling feel that its fit for you to become the first sponsered extreme athlete of all time.  Not even Redbull could sponsor your Extreme and thats saying something mate  ;D

I would like to think that your Toes become the drive and thrust of young Pilots worldwide when they compete to have the Captain John Lear Toe Trophy for winning the Reno Air Race.

Dear Reno Air Race,

Make that shit happen ASAP...  Thanks.

;)

Littleenki

Gold for that suggestion, Soma! Indeed, those guys will tear up the pylon course for a trophy like that..every pilot knows who John Lear is!
