Can I ask..

Thanks giving  Holiday in the USA was on Thursday 22nd...

But there is a lot of mentioned about Black Friday shopping day.

Does the USA have just one days Holiday or two...?

ie the 22nd and 23rd Nov.... OR Just the 22nd ?

The Seeker

Astro, Thanksgiving day is always the third thursday in November; black friday is the name given to the day that all the merchants have ridiculous sales to start the christmas blitz, always the day after turkey day...

Hi Seeker,

Thank you for your answer to my query.

I can see now that Black Friday is classed as the day after thanks giving...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_%28shopping%29

But I am curious if the US workforce also get a day off on both days or just the Thanks giving..

Many holidays are often either Fridays or Mondays to offer a long weekend..

I know that the USA Stock exchanges finish at around midday 1 pm EST time..

So I just wondered if workforce gets a full day off also today or maybe  they finish early for the weekend...

Its just out of curiosity !

Thank you

looking at the link I added and reading more carefully it does seem that many get both days off....if your not in retail that is !  :P

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, most major retailers open extremely early and offer promotional sales to kick off the holiday shopping season, similar to Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth Nations. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many non-retail employers also observe this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving, giving their employees the day off, thereby increasing the number of potential shoppers
