The Mexican government is releasing state-held secrets about the end of the Mayan calendar  to the makers of a documentary, "Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond," TheWrap has learned.

The information -- protected for 80 years -- is expected to reveal Mayan beliefs in future catastrophes and wisdom characterized as "shocking," producer Raul Julia-Levy, son of actor Raul Julia, told TheWrap.

Archaeologists have found a stunning array of 1,200-year-old Maya paintings in a room that appears to have been a workshop for calendar scribes and priests, with numerical markings on the wall that denote intervals of time well beyond the controversial cycle that runs out this December.

For years, prophets of doom have been saying that we're in for an apocalypse on Dec. 21, 2012, because that marks the end of the Maya "Long Count" calendar, which was based on a cycle of 13 intervals known as "baktuns," each lasting 144,000 days.

But the researchers behind the latest find, detailed in the journal Science and an upcoming issue of National Geographic, say the writing on the wall runs counter to that bogus belief.

"It's very clear that the 2012 date, this end of 13 baktuns, while important, was turning the page," David Stuart, an expert on Maya hieroglyphs at the University of Texas at Austin, told reporters today.

"Baktun 14 was going to be coming, and Baktun 15 and Baktun 16. ... The Maya calendar is going to keep going, and keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future."







Boston University archaeologist William Saturno carefully uncovers art and writings left by the Maya some 1,200 years ago. The art and other symbols on the walls may have been records kept by a scribe, Saturno theorizes.

Saturno's excavation and documentation of the house were supported by the National Geographic Society.

To their eternal discredit, the History Channel has been running a series of programs for years on the end of the world relating to the Mayans. And while they are careful to offer a sane scientist debunking this nonsense, the fact that they have dozens of lunatics preaching Armageddon makes them at least partially culpable if the hysteria results in deaths.

One thing is clear; the end of the world is good for business.

All consumerism aside, I did not realize the seriousness of this
hype untill I searched again tonight to see just how many articles
there are on this "Doom" and fear mongering.

I was quite shocked to see 20,500 hits on Google, and that is just
in the "news" search. 

While some are preparing for luxury underground, others it seems
are frightened...especially young people. 

NASA astronomer David Morrison is among those who are not amused. "At least once a week I get a message from a young person, as young as 11, who says they are ill and/or contemplating suicide because of the coming doomsday. I think its evil for people to propagate rumors on the internet to frighten children."

Fear porn has been the biggest industry after the conventional kind of pornography, ever since 9/11.

When I talk about fear or doom porn, I'm not talking about legitimate conspiracy related material.  I'm talking about idiocy like Nibiru/Elenin etc, or the latest topic that Alex Jones has come unhinged about.

NOBODY should fear the 21st.  Nobody.  You are going to be drawn to whatever your predominant thought process/energetic quality is at that time; so it is very important that rather than fearing it, you try and do the opposite as much as possible.  The way to benefit from this event is to go towards it with as positive a mentality as possible.  It is going to be fantastic.

Petrus, I agree, small exception being children and young teens too young
to think this through....being manipulated through the exploitation.

Nothing wrong with some basic preparation, as sometimes
doomsday can to a degree become a self fullfilling prophecy.

No better way to prepare than to put oneself in order, starting
in the soul and ones relationships.
