Study: New E15 gas can ruin auto engines


This week's warm Washington temperatures had some thinking about rolling the Lawn-Boy out of the garage for the first cut of the year. And we all know what that means: Difficult starts due to E10 gas that gels when it sits.

Now, according to a new study, cars and truck may face the same fate thanks to President Obama's demand for a higher ethanol in the new E15 gas.

The fuel industry's American Petroleum Institute tested the 15 percent ethanol gas approved in 2010 and found it gums up fuel systems, prompts "check engine" lights to come on, and messes with fuel gauge readings.

"Failure of these components could result in breakdowns that leave consumers stranded on busy roads and highways," said the industry report. Worse: API said the fuel problems--not found in E5 or E10 blends--aren't always covered by auto warranties.

The industry prefers pure fuel to an ethanol mix, but the report isn't likely to slow the administrations green push, according to a Washington auto lobbyist.

The key points from the API report are below:

The additional E15 testing, completed this month, has identified an elevated incidence of fuel pump failures, fuel system component swelling, and impairment of fuel measurement systems in some of the vehicles tested. E15 could cause erratic and misleading fuel gauge readings or cause faulty check engine light illuminations. It also could cause critical components to break and stop fuel flow to the engine. Failure of these components could result in breakdowns that leave consumers stranded on busy roads and highways. Fuel system component problems did not develop in the CRC tests when either E10 or E0 was used. It is difficult to precisely calculate how many vehicles E15 could harm. That depends on how widely it is used and other factors. But, given the kinds of vehicles tested, it is safe to say that millions could be impacted.

In 2010 and 2011, EPA gave the green light to use E15 - the 15 percent ethanol gasoline blend - in model-year-2001-and-later cars and some other vehicles. EPA's action was irresponsible. EPA knew E15 vehicle testing was ongoing but decided not to wait for the results. Why did EPA move forward prematurely? Part of the answer may be the need to raise the permissible concentration level of ethanol so that greater volumes could be used, as required by the federal Renewable Fuel Standard. Most gasoline sold today is an E10 blend, but rising volume requirements under the law can't be met much longer without going to higher blends. When Congress passed the law, it could not know it was creating this problem. Today we know. The answer is to repeal the RFS before it puts millions of vehicles and many motorists at risk.

This is not good news, as if vehicle issues are not difficult enough
already, well here in California its literally a nightmare unless
your have an older car and endless supplie of parts.

To top it all of, ethanol is made from GMO corn. Farmers,
trade growing corn for food to grow corn for ethanol.

No one is winning, everyone is losing. This is out of the
Saul Alinsky playbook if you ask me.

Everything he is doing is to create failure, and chaos.

It's not Obama, but the hand behind the puppet.  The aim has been to create failure and chaos so as to come marching through hauling People to FEMA camps and otherwise taking over.  Regardless of the puppet in office, THAT is what the goal has been, as They boil the frog.

Are you driving a car made before 2012?

Don't fill up your car with E15 gas! – even though the Obama regime's EPA has approved it and is pushing the sale of E15.

Sold in some states, E15 gas is 15% ethanol.

E15 gas is also highly corrosive and will destroy your car's fuel system, emissions system and engine,
costing you thousands of dollars in repair.

Thor, thanks for posting that video too. It is clear that the lady knows this subject well, and, WOW, this is really a big stinking problem.

Of course, any real high level manager of this country would simply put a stop to this "ethanol thing", until satisfactory outcomes are assured.

Does anyone really believe we will see that happen, with this administration - - won't happen, unless enough people scream out! Or enough cars turn to POOP, from using it!

Greetings:

We loaned our generator to a friend months ago and did not ask about the 1/2 tank of gas returned with it.

Months later, when a tree fell on the power lines and the lights went out, we went to start it - to no avail.


The next day, after removing the carburetor and checking fuel lines to find crud throughout, we realized there might be a bigger problem.

Removed the tank and drained completely the gas into a clean container... water-fouled and cloudy!

Called the guy - yup - ethanol from Racetrac (it was cheapest).

We have friends whose boats are screwed up because the marina sells only ethanol.   


Solution: Don't buy the crud!

As a consumer, I should be able to decide and buy my choice for the best fuel type, recommended by my engine's manufacturer for all of my gas-powered motors. Today, the EPA, ACE, ethanol producers, and other government, private and public companies, control that decision.   


My right to choose NON-ethanol fuel (gasoline without alcohol) has been in recent years limited, controlled or taken away by those companies and regulating agencies who wrongly believe that the E10 fuel type is safe, appropriate and manufacturer-approved for all conventional engine types.
   
The EPA's recent unwarranted approval and introduction of a new conventional E15 gas type which will contain 50% more ethanol than approved by all current manufacturer recommendations/warranties, is further substantiation that choosing the most appropriate gas type at the pump should be determined by the engine owner. For those who choose to use higher ethanol blends, it should only be allowed in manufacturer-approved engines with E85 fuel (85% ethanol) used only in specially-designed flex fuel vehicles.
   
I own or use engine(s) that require and/or perform best on NON-alcohol fuel types, including: (Include engine year, type, model and if applicable, manufacturer gas recommendations).   

Due to the limitation of only ethanol-blends (E10 gas) being sold in my neighborhood of (enter location in box at right) I have experienced negative and unnecessary consequences and/or inconvenience and/or added expense.
