Eugene Podkletnov

QuoteDr Yevgeny Podkletnov is a Russian engineer, formerly affiliated with the Materials Science Department at the Tampere University of Technology, Finland, who is best known for his controversial work on a so-called gravity shielding device. Born in Russia in the mid-1950s, Podkletnov graduated with a master's degree from the University of Chemical Technology, Mendeleyev Institute, in Moscow; he then spent 15 years at the Institute for High Temperatures in the Russian Academy of Sciences. Later he received a doctorate in materials science from Tampere University of Technology, and worked at the university, on superconductors, until 1996

Podkletnov's gravity shielding experiments

According to the account Podkletnov gave to reporter Charles Platt in a 1996 phone interview, during a 1992 experiment with a rotating superconducting disk,

Someone in the laboratory was smoking a pipe, and the pipe smoke rose in a column above the superconducting disc. So we placed a ball-shaped magnet above the disc, attached to a balance. The balance behaved strangely. We substituted a nonmagnetic material, silicon, and still the balance was very strange. We found that any object above the disc lost some of its weight, and we found that if we rotated the disc, the effect was increased.

Podkletnov published a paper in 1992 reporting that the weight of an object directly above the disk was decreased. He concluded that the superconducting disk was shielding the Earth's gravitational force above it.

Public controversy

Podkletnov's first peer-reviewed paper on the apparent gravity-modification effect, published in 1992, attracted little notice. In 1996, he submitted a longer paper, in which he claimed to have observed a larger effect (2% weight reduction as opposed to 0.3% in the 1992 paper) to the Journal of Physics D. According to science reporter Charles Platt, a member of the editorial staff, Ian Sample, leaked the submitted paper to Robert Matthews, the science correspondent for the British newspaper, the Sunday Telegraph.

On September 1, 1996, Matthews's story broke, leading with the startling statement: "Scientists in Finland are about to reveal details of the world's first antigravity device." In the ensuing furor, the director of the laboratory where Podkletnov was working issued a defensive statement that Podkletnov was working entirely on his own.[citation needed] In a bizarre twist, Podkletnov's supposed coauthor disavowed prior knowledge of the paper[citation needed], but some[who?] have found this disingenuous. Podkletnov himself complained that he had never claimed to block gravity, only to reduce its effect.

By 1997, Podkletnov had withdrawn his second paper (after it had been initially accepted), was no longer allowed into his former lab in Tampere and had returned to Moscow, where he quietly took an engineering job. (In 1998 he was however reported to be working on superconductors at Tamglass engineering Oy in Tampere.)

Podkletnov's gravity reflection beam

In a second interview (1997) by Wired magazine reporter Charles Platt, Podkletnov told Platt that he was continuing to work on gravitation, claiming that with new collaborators at an un-named "chemical research center" in Moscow he has built a new device. He said:

Normally there are two spheres, and a spark jumps between them. Now imagine the spheres are flat surfaces, superconductors, one of them a coil or O-ring. Under specific conditions, applying resonating fields and composite superconducting coatings, we can organize the energy discharge in such a way that it goes through the center of the electrode, accompanied by gravitation phenomena - reflecting gravitational waves that spread through the walls and hit objects on the floors below, knocking them over...The second generation of flying machines will reflect gravity waves and will be small, light, and fast, like UFOs. I have achieved impulse reflection; now the task is to make it work continuously.

More recently, in collaboration with Italian physicist Giovanni Modanese, Podkletnov has reported on a similar device which he claims generates a coherent gravity repulsion beam. Supporters claim it has been seen to move a pendulum located 150 meters away in another building.Allegedly, Podkletnov has observed that the "backside" of this second device emits "radiation" (not otherwise specified) which seems to be dangerous to biological tissues.

Related work

In 1990, two University of Alabama physicists, Douglas Torr and Ning Li, had predicted that superconducting magnets might reduce the effect of gravity. After Podkletnov's apparent confirmation of this prediction, Torr persuaded David Noever, a colleague at the nearby Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, to attempt to reproduce the gravity shielding experiment.

Torr soon moved to the University of South Carolina and commenced work on a most unusual device. According to Platt, Torr describes this device as a "gravity generator" that can create a force beam in any desired direction. Officials of the University of South Carolina, however, apparently disavowed association with this work (in an interview by reporter Charles Platt), and it seems that Torr is seeking private funding to continue his research.

James Woodward, an adjunct professor of physics at Cal State in Fullerton, CA, claims to have constructed a device which achieves time varied changes in mass using rather ordinary capacitors.[citation needed]

Marcus Hollingshead, a British inventor, claimed in 2002 to have invented a device with similar gravity-modifying effects, though more related to the non-superconducting spinning S.E.G. configuration proposed by John Searl.

In 2006, Martin Tajmar and several coworkers at the Austrian Research Center (ARC) Seibersdorf announced their claim to have measured the gravitomagnetic London moment of Cooper pairs in a superconducting ring spinning at 6500 rpm.[7] Despite the similarity to the apparatus used by Podkletnov, the authors carefully state in their eprint that their claimed result should not be confused with the claims of Podkletnov; specifically, they measured a tangential gravitomagnetic force created by Type I superconductors, (Elemental Lead and Niobium rings at liquid helium temperatures) but failed to measure an axial force from Type II superconductors (YBCO and BSSCO ceramics at liquid nitrogen temperatures) as described by Podkletnov. Thus, their results suggest a magnified form of 'frame dragging' rather than gravity reflection. However, there are major differences between the experiments, such as the method of driving the ring. (In the ARC experiments, the ring was physically driven by a motor, while Podkletnov's experiment levitated and spun the ring using magnetic fields.)

Attempted verification

In his 1997 interview with Charles Platt, Podkletnov insisted that his gravity-shielding work was reproduced by researchers at universities in Toronto and Sheffield, but none have come forward to acknowledge this. The Sheffield work is known to have only been intended as partial replication, aimed at observing any unusual effects which might be present, since the team involved lacked the necessary facilities to construct a large enough disk and the ability to duplicate the means by which the original disk was rotated. Podkletnov counters that the researchers in question have kept quiet "lest they be criticized by the mainstream scientific community". Podkletnov, in fact, visited the Sheffield team in 2000 and advised them on the conditions necessary to achieve his effect - conditions that they never got close to matching.

The group at NASA in Huntsville did not finish their attempts to verify Podkletnov's original gravity shielding experiment. Two attempts were made to repeat the superconductor rotation experiment, one in-house and one through an SBIR. In both cases, large superconductor disks were fabricated. However, in both cases, the funding did not allow for the development of the rotation system needed for the completion of the test. No attempt has been made by NASA to repeat the second impulse experiment.

In a BBC news item, it was alleged that researchers at Boeing were funding a project called GRASP (Gravity Research for Advanced Space Propulsion) which would attempt to construct a gravity shielding device, but a subsequent Popular Mechanics news item stated that Boeing had denied funding GRASP with company money, although Boeing acknowledged that it could not comment on "black projects". A possible solution of this contradiction has been suggested: it is alleged that the GRASP proposal was presented to Boeing, but that Boeing chose not to fund it.

New technology from 'black world'
By Nick Easen for CNN
Monday, September 8, 2003

Quote(CNN) -- What ground-breaking new technology is kept so secret by the authorities that even to comment on its existence would be to reveal too much?

Welcome to black world technology -- the discrepancy in the defense budgets no-one can explain, and the programs which politicians and officials have the right to deny even exist.

Yet it is big business, not just for those involved in developing the technology, but for the spin-offs that eventually come in the "white world" -- defense jargon for the real world.

"The computers that were secretly developed to go to the moon are now on your desktop," Nick Cook, aerospace consultant for Jane's Defence Weekly told CNN.

"It all ends up in the commercial world in some ways, but black world technology is hard to penetrate in terms of figures and types of programs," he said.

Boeing, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer says it is working on anti-gravity propulsion, which could revolutionize conventional aviation.

If the science underpinning the program can be made into reality, it will be the biggest thing to hit the aviation industry since the Wright Brothers.

"GRASP," or Gravity Research for Advanced Space Propulsion, was only recently reported in Jane's Defence Weekly, but the U.S. military may have had the technology for years.

QuoteThe National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), based in Nevada, say that mysterious U.S. military craft using this kind of technology have been skirting the skies since the 1980s.

And NIDS is now calling for the military to unveil its secrets for commercial benefit.

Anti-gravity propulsion comes 'out of the closet'
Nick Cook
Jane's Defense Weekly, 2002-07-29

QuoteBoeing, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, has admitted that it is working on experimental anti-gravity projects that could overturn a century of conventional aerospace propulsion technology if the science that underpins them - science that senior Boeing officials describe as "valid" - can be engineered into hardware.

As part of the effort, which is being run out of Boeing's Phantom Works advanced research and development facility in Seattle, the company is trying to solicit the services of a Russian scientist who claims he has developed 'high-' and 'low-power' anti-gravity devices in Russia and Finland. The approach, however, has been thwarted by Russian officialdom.

The Boeing drive to develop a collaborative relationship with the scientist in question, Dr Evgeny Podkletnov, has its own internal project name: 'GRASP' - Gravity Research for Advanced Space Propulsion.

A briefing document on GRASP obtained by Jane's Defence Weekly sets out what Boeing believes to be at stake. "If gravity modification is real," it says, "it will alter the entire aerospace business." The report was written by Jamie Childress, principal investigator for Boeing's propellentless propulsion work at the Phantom Works in Seattle.

GRASP's objective is to explore propellentless propulsion (the aerospace world's more formal term for anti-gravity), determine the validity of Podkletnov's work and "examine possible uses for such a technology". Applications, the company says, could include space launch systems, artificial gravity on spacecraft, aircraft propulsion and 'fuelless' electricity generation - so-called 'free energy'.

But it is also apparent that Podkletnov's work could be engineered into a radical form of weapon system. The GRASP paper focuses on Podkletnov's claims that his high-power experiments, using a device called an 'impulse gravity generator', are capable of producing a beam of 'gravity-like' energy that can exert an instantaneous force of 1,000g on any object - enough, in principle, to vaporise it, especially if the object is moving at high speed.

Podkletnov maintains that a laboratory installation in Russia has already demonstrated the 4in (10.16cm) wide beam's ability to repel objects a kilometre away and that it exhibits negligible power loss at distances of up to 200km (JDW 24 July). Such a device, observers say, could be adapted for use as an anti-satellite weapon or a ballistic missile shield.

The GRASP paper details the beam's reported characteristics: that it is immune to electromagnetic shielding, that it can penetrate any intermediate barriers (objects placed between the generator and the target), that it propagates at very high speed ("possibly light speed or greater") and that the total force is proportional to target mass - that its effect, in other words, is exactly the same as gravity's.

Podkletnov's claims first surfaced in 1992 when he published a paper detailing his low-power experiments into gravity-shielding using superconductors, materials that lose their electrical resistance at low temperatures. The original experiments were conducted at the University of Technology in Tampere, Finland, before moving to Russia. Podkletnov, who has a PhD in materials science from Tampere and the University of Chemical Technology in Moscow, declared that any object placed above his rapidly spinning superconducting apparatus lost up to 2% of its weight. Although he was vilified by traditionalists who claimed that gravity-shielding was impossible under the known laws of physics, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) went on to attempt a replication of his work in the mid-1990s.

Because NASA lacked Podkletnov's unique formula for the 30cm yttrium-barium copper oxide (YBCO) superconducting ceramic discs - a formula the Russian maintains is critical to the experiment's success - the attempt failed. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama will shortly conduct a second set of experiments, this time using apparatus built to Podkletnov's specifications.

In August 2001, Podkletnov published a paper revealing his experimental high-power work and it is this that forms the focus of the GRASP report. Boeing wants to build its own impulse gravity generator at Seattle but admits that it lacks vital knowledge in the area of the YBCO emitter - Podkletnov's special superconducting apparatus - which forms the heart of the generator.

As a result, Boeing recently approached Podkletnov directly, but promptly fell foul of Russian technology transfer controls. George Muellner, the outgoing head of the Boeing Phantom Works, confirmed that attempts by Boeing to work with Podkletnov had been blocked by Moscow, which is seeking to stem the exodus of Russian high-technology to the West. Muellner is convinced, however, that the science underpinning Podkletnov's work is real.

"The physical principles - and Podkletnov's device is not the only one - appear to be valid," he said. He confirmed that Boeing had conducted tests on a number of other anti-gravity devices, some of which were detailed in JDW 24 July.

"There is basic science there. They're not breaking the laws of physics. The issue is whether the science can be engineered into something workable," Muellner said.

The GRASP briefing document reveals that BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin have also contacted Podkletnov "and have some activity in this area". It is also possible, Boeing admits, that "classified activities in gravity modification may exist". The paper points out that Podkletnov is strongly anti-military and will only provide assistance if the research is carried out in the 'white world' of open development.

GRASP concludes that a "positive result from experiments would give Boeing a substantial advantage in the aerospace industry".

Even after only watching this interview once (these sort of interviews I can watch many times)  I picked up some points which are personally rather interesting.  :)

The simplicity compared to what occurs now in regards to 'known public' space misisons and how Boeing Phantom works were mentioned.

For those that may have not known... Boeing Phantom Works is entrenched in Australia Officially!  What Eugene said in his interview regarding Boeing and what more than a 'few believe or KNOW' in regards to secret craft being operated here in Australia quite excited me.

Boeing Phantom Works Official Announcement:

http://www.boeing.com.au/ViewContent.do?id=35182&Year=2008

QuoteCANBERRA, March 11, 2008 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] formally launched today an Australian branch of its Phantom Works advanced research and development unit to better support its businesses in Australia and partner with researchers there on the development of mutually beneficial technologies.

"Establishing Phantom Works in Australia expands Boeing's 80-year relationship with this country by introducing exciting new technology opportunities for both of us," said John Tracy, Boeing senior vice president of Engineering, Operations & Technology and chief technology officer. "It's also another example of how Boeing is partnering with the best technologists in the world to develop innovative aerospace solutions to meet our customers' needs."

The new Phantom Works branch will provide a centralised advanced R&D organisation for Boeing's businesses in the country and serve as a focal point for continued collaboration with Australian R&D organisations, including universities and private sector R&D providers, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).

The interview rolled up a few topics all in one which interest me  ;D

Gravitation: Caught in the gravity trap

Here is yet another article that shows the mind set of the 'professional' community

Although Dr. Podkletnov fires our imagination: In professional circles, he is still considered a hoax. Up front with this idea is Dr. Martin Tajmar, who is one of the worldwide leading scientists in this field and has often tried to re-enact the Russian's experiments. Every single time with a negative result: "If my name was Podkletnov, and I managed to prove a manipulation of gravity, why would I not call CNN and have them report it live instead of turning it into a little mystery for myself?"

Now that reaction is rather peculiar. Look at how the metal ring bobs above the magnet. It shows similar characteristics of a UFO we see flitting about and spinning with jerky movements.

It's called the Meissner Effect... but what Eugene said in the video was that their team found you can do it without using super conductors, and use rotating magnetic fields instead

Here are some Meissner Effect videos. There are lots on youtube

ANTI-GRAVITY
Defying the Laws of Gravity

QuoteHow did Podkletnov accurately measure his claimed 2% weight reduction? Podkletnov used a mercury manometer which was placed above the disc. The manometer is similar to a barometer, and when placed above the superconductor, the disc recorded a 4-mm reduction in air pressure primarily to a reduction in the weight of the air. Podkletnov took his mercury manometer to a lab directly above the superconductor disk one story below. He found exactly the same result as if his experiment was generating an invisible column of decreased gravity extending upward indefinitely into space.

Eugene Podkletnov on Gravity Shielding
October 28th, 2011

QuoteDr. Eugene Podkletnov discusses gravity shielding effects in rotating superconductors and recent experiments with a gravity impulse generator. Podkletnov achieved notoriety when publishing on gravity shielding in 1996, when pipe smoke rising in a column above a rotating superconductor became the precipitating event that led him into detailed investigation of the gravity shielding effect. He describes the experimental elements of his research and hypothesizes on a number of models that may explain his findings.

Podkletnov first published on the topic of gravity shielding effects in superconductors back in 1992, and achieved notoriety in the media when he submitted an article on the effect to the "Journal of Physics D". The story was leaked to the press and initially published in the British "Sunday Telegraph" newspaper, and was subsequently was picked up by other publications around the world. Podkletnov has indicated that despite the publicity this provided for his research, it also led to negative feedback from peers in the scientific community, and ultimately pushed him towards private financing for his research.

Podkletnov described the discovery of this gravity shielding effect as a smoke from a colleague's pipe rose in a column above the rotating superconducting disk, which prompted him to perform measurements that eventually led to him believe that a gravity shielding effect was occurring. Seeking to demonstrate a more pronounced gravity shielding effect, over time he constructed larger superconducting disks, and has additionally proposed stacking arrays of rotating disks as a means for multiplying the gravity shielding effect based on existing experimental designs.

Over the last few years, Podkletnov has continued his research, and published a joint paper with Dr. Giovanni Modanese describing a "Gravity Impulse Generator" capable of producing a non-diverging beam of what appeared to be gravitational force emanating from a superconductor. The impulse generator departed from Podkletnov's earlier experiments in that it used a mounted, stationary superconducting emitter bombarded by a high-voltage discharge in a high-intensity magnetic field, rather than simply rotating a superconducting disk as in his previous gravity shielding experiments.

Podkletnov's research has been closely followed by NASA, and a replication of the initial superconductive gravity shielding test was attempted in 2001 by NASA's Ron Koczor and Tony Robertson of NASA Glenn research center, who performed tests on a superconductive disk designed by Podkletnov and built by SCI Engineered Materials. However, the replication achieved only 200 rpm of the required 5,000 rpm and failed achieve a measurable result.

I also noticed he was very nervous and even mentioned he was afraid where this would lead. Let's hope he stays off the 'missing' list. As you say he has been around with this work for some time.

I did not know that Senator John Glenn was involved in the NASA  Breakthrough Propulsion Physics   project... more homework :(

QuoteStatus of the NASA Breakthrough Propulsion Physics (BPP) Project  All NASA support to sustain cognizance on these possibilities has been withdrawn as of October 1, 2008.  The final NASA contribution was to assist in the compilation of a graduate-level technical book, Frontiers of Propulsion Science, which is due out in early 2009.  This book (750 pages, hardback) will be volume 227 of the series, Progress in Astronautics and Aeronautics Series, which will be published by American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

If i may, i have a few comments ;)

First, the idea that 'black' tech sometimes leaks into the 'white' world is definitely real. The Z80 processor was originaly designed to run missiles, somehow Clive Sinclair got hold of them (probably because there were millions of them lying around after being superceded by the next generation) and he made his first small, affordable home computer (the first competition for Apple probably)

Podkletnov;
In his book, LaViolette reasons that the 'pulse generator' and Brown's discs were actually 2 sides of the same effect.
I tend to agree, adding that Podkletnov & Modanses, (& a third man, Obolonsky, or similar, i'm bad with names) actually measured the velocity of this 'wave' & found it to be at least 64 times the speed of light.
I tend to agree with that one, too.

Searl;
This is much more tricky, i have tons of data on him, his theory is 'unusual' at least, expressed in a Rodin-type 'magic numbers'game. I'm not debunking Searl as yet, he does have some great insight & technical knoweledge, but he is also more than slightly eccentric, and i still need to see a complete SEG with all 3 rings before i am convinced.
If you like, i will put everything i have on him on my site, & post the links back here

PLAYSWITHMACHINES

Ive seen these films, & i know Alienscientist, he's a good source.....

Update; I have posted a ton of files about Searl on my site, in the My files/Theory folder.
Be warned, Searl is quite profane at times, & if you read his 'inventions' notes, you may come to the conclusion that he is nutty as a fruitcake.
If you want tech details, go straight to the 'SEG progress notes' folder.

The SEG/IGV concept in itself is quite brilliant, but i have no way of confirming if it works, i would treat it with some caution if i were you...

Linda Brown

Could you explain what you meant by this regarding Dads discs?

Hi, Zorgon, have you been reading my files?  :D

Thanks for posting this, yet again, you have saved me a ton of work!

Feel free to browse the 'gravity' folder and post anything you find there: i would consider it an honour, and you may find some interesting links!  :)

For the rest of you; I know Podkletnov well, he is someone we should all listen to, IMHO.... :o

Sorry, Linda, i missed that post, please forgive me  :-[
I meant that we should pay close attention to Podkletnov's work, the speed of gravity (i have long suspected) is indeed much faster than light.

I can't explain it right now, but it all adds up, if you follow me.... :D
I will ask Amy if she will forward this question to Dr. LaViolette, i will be more than happy to talk with him...
