Given my research into that area I would imagine the blindfold should be about seeing with the third eye. 

Doubt the old masons do that now, but in the hay day I would have no doubt that some people like the masons when they were actually about breaking reality would use a blindfold for training purposes.

Kungfu movies made in Asia are full of training.  Be that good or bad, as it can be used in either way just like a mother beating her kid coz she knows no different and has little care to change herself.
