America won't be repeating that historic one small step anytime soon -- not according to NASA chief Charlie Bolden, anyway.

"NASA is not going to the Moon with a human as a primary project probably in my lifetime," Bolden told a joint meeting of the Space Studies Board and the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board in Washington last week, according to Jeff Foust of SpacePolitics.com. "And the reason is, we can only do so many things."

Is there anyone here who believes that this announcement should not be considered to be a "National embarrassment?"

Is there anyone here who believes such an announcement as this should be made at any level of the U.S. Government lower than the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES??

Is there anyone here who believes that the POTUS should not fully and totally explain such decisions, defend the reasons for making such a decision, and detail what effect such decisions are going to have on this country and its people, relative to the rest of the world, regarding failure to achieve advancing far reaching technologies.

Is there anyone here who believes that such a decision should not be made relative to some type of official set forth guidelines that specifically outline and detail our plans and objectives for space exploration, with the Moon being a hardcore forming-piece of its very foundation?

How very stupid does "not going to the Moon" sound, especially as that statement is assumed to be coming from people of reasonable intelligence and from people having a reasonable knowledge of the value of learning the unknown about the Moon. Of course, that is assuming that the unknowns of the Moon are actually still "unknown".

We have reasonable and complete capability for extensive Moon exploration. And is there any reason to believe that what is to be found/discovered there would not be of far more value than mission/operational cost??? Just the easy and quick foundational learning for application to other missions in the solar System, and someday maybe to the stars, makes the Moon a gigantic opportunity for the advance of knowledge and capability, without any consideration for the materialistic value of the Moon for all kinds of other possibilities.

Just the dollars being wasted by the Obama administration and Czarist operations would go a long way toward funding some of the costs of Moon exploration.  Additionally, a needed drastic reduction in the size and cost of Federal Government, including a part-time Congress, would open up even more funding. ETC! ETC! ETC!

NOPE! We certainly do not want to "reduce unemployment" through all of the man-hours necessary to implement and to accomplish a far-reaching Moon program do we. No No! Just keep doling out "food stamps", an operation that is making a few companies even richer, while keeping people on the government dole!!

NUFF SAID!!

P.S. - And if there are classified/untold reasons for such decisions, then it is about time to put that out on the table too, so we can get on down the road (to the Moon) with our lives!!  ;) ;)

rdunk,

I saw this, and was left wondering...

Either they have been to the moon, and already
know everything there is to know....maybe they
have reached the moons maximum civilization?

Obviously, we are not being told the real story,
really makes me wonder...

I certainly agree! You know, what this country has done relative to the Moon over these past many years is really the antithesis of what the people of the United States have stood for, since this country was initially "discovered" and founded. Always seeking to better life through discovery in new frontiers.

The direction NASA, and thus America, is directly opposite to our foundational beginnings, and to what would be our normal track. Yes, as you say bts, this action by NASA should leave all of us and this country "wondering"...............wondering "what in the hell is going on", and also wondering how do we get the truth of this matter out into the public domain.

There is just a lot of stuff going on - reminds me of Noah and his building of the Ark over that 120 years............with all of the others a lot of stuff going on....................the end!  ;)

Yes it is  and so is having to rely on Russia to get us to the ISS  :P

But John and I have been telling you for YEARS that NASA will find a reason NOT TO GO BACK

QuoteIs there anyone here who believes such an announcement as this should be made at any level of the U.S. Government lower than the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES??

He DID.. I posted the video a few years back Obamma told NASA he would NOT release funds for them to go to the Moon, They cannot send a man to Mars for at least 25 years, but he will allow them to send men to asteroids

What a joke...  don't make me go dig up that old film :P

Oh okay here it is :P  Robots  More money on earth observations, ramp up ISS, privatize...

Hope you can put up with him for 25 minutes :D

Okay okay go to 19:00  NO MOON

You should keep up with the news :P

I listened to the first half. Yes, I remember him making these statements, but that was then, and now is now. We know even more about him now than we did then. I personally do not trust him for anything he says!. But then, that is just me!

 rdunk;
We will not be going back to the moon, or to mars, as the natives most
likely do not like a nuclear powered dune buggy roaming their planet. The
image you use with your post, I can not find,..However, you may like to
check out the mars rover mast camera for the date, sol 388..scrole down

I won't bother to quote anything from the article, but rather I would like to point out how the article is bent towards to creating a false impression upon people.

Now lets say this mission is true and is happening to usual mission clockwork where there is always room for failure.  What these folk from NASA state is valid for anything a human invent's and then create's.

For example; Failure point's exist and must be factored into even a simple device like a hand held citrus juicer.  Given that this mission may be real, and is occuring as we are being reported to as people without *clearence in the specified area's in relation to this Lunar Mission* then I can only see this New's Story telling us about a Collaboration, rather than Competition, "Marketed" as Competition!

This Rover will be one to keep an eye on, and possibly we should set up a task force here, or at least a thread so people can drop everything they come upon into said thread.  Things that come to mind are saving footage, all news article's in both language's etc.

Whats the Wager on the first image's recieved for public consumption will depict a desolate alien land void of colourful mineral content shot with a camera that's not calibrated for colour that may take month's to callibrate ?

;D
