QuoteAs an engineer you might be interested.

Have you come across Fords new one litre eco-boost engine?
No not a new one mate, is it a neat piece of kit?good reports?Fancy new concept?
I'm familiar with most of the "ecotech engines".Turbos/superchargers are the way forward
IMO when it comes to petrol or oil burners.always room for improvement with the internal
combustion engine.Rotary engines, now there great, the old WANKEL LOL.

i'm not working at the moment pal, here's the thing.....
Last job was sheeting that was 6 month's ago,Now i'm looking for THAT DREAM JOB ;)
and whilst I still keep my hand in I would only get back into a garage for really good money.
You get £7.00 an hour while the boss gets £70.00 an hour! I don't think so.

I like at minimum £10.00 an hour or i'm not happy doing it but I help my mates.  :)
That's more often than not free or for "a drink" I've moved on in that job area.
I'll always be tinkering with me spanners But no longer as a full time profession

i'm also a welder, Mig, Tig, Arc, Oxy Acette, city and guilds (Free course's so why not)
but again finding work that lasts seems to be a thing of the past thanks to greedy Agency's >:(

I'm multi skilled done sheeting, steel erecting, building work & more A jack of all trades.
Hell I was even A Drum & Bass DJ & worked all over the UK :D that was a cool time in my life.

where I live there aren't the trades or work, Maybe I will move? not decided.

I'm having a bit of a rethink with the job situation, I need something new.
If I could find the job that would be like a hobby and it made me happy i
would go for it.

i'm not really materialistic now, money is not the be all and end all like it used to be.
all this mad consumerism it's crazy, who needs a 60 inch TV etc.
Don't get me wrong I Like neat new stuff as much as the next bloke
but nowadays it's not my priority, Except MOTORCYCLES ;D
I know i sound a little hypocritical but Do we need all this "stuff"?

sorry for the rant/derail but do ya see where i'm coming from?.

LOL giveth and ye shall receive.
I think it was the "your an engineer" that threw me Elvis, whilst I have applied for
and got the job with that title it means little of value to me.

It took me a long time to figure out that not everyone can wire a plug, change a timing belt
rebore an engine etc I THOUGHT EVERY ONE KNEW THIS STUFF.honest ???

not the case. I could stretch to building a working 2 stroke engine from a block of alloy IF
I set my mind to it But I would need A cad design for the math Not my strong point
so the word ENGINEER I use it loosely ;)
I certainly don't hold a bachelor's or Phd I'm nothing special believe me.REALLY

you know your way around a toolbox Elvis it's obvious so I guess we're both engineers.
Funny it sounds like such an important Title and for some It fits. REAL engineer's
like Brunel or stephenson! I am not that good hehe ;D

Greetings:

Back in the day, working for YMC (Yamaha - about half a century ago), we were fortunate enough to meet such greats as Don Vesco and his really crazy brother, Rick, when we campaigned at Bonneville. We say crazy, because he put a Chinook helicopter turbine motor in a 'car'! (If you can call a contraption only 2.5' x 3' x 31' - a car!)

For a brief moment, defending the "Red Dragonfly's" reputation (running Conoco pump gas), we came within a couple of miles of "Honda Rick's" APS-A-125 record of 102.375 - and went back to Colorado with a big smile. After all, we were all of 16 at the time, and a farm-boy who just happened to have found a friend at out first job off the farm (Karl Skoglund, owner at the motorcycle dealership/shop) who built really fast motorcycles.  :P

That was then.

If the truth were to be told, we really, really like offshore powerboat racing, so much that we hosted and produced the 1998 Offshore Gran Prix at Singer Island, FL.   :P

Our buddies at Team Drambuie threw a GREAT party - thanks!  wink

This is what offshore racing looks and sounds like.

I don't think we did, people just got more interested in making cheaper things instead of better things.

The technology exists, the will to make new technology exists, but an possible large and lucrative market doesn't exist then everything is ignored.

Look at the case of motorcycles: who are the big manufacturers and who are the innovators? Where is the new technology being applied to everyday bikes?

stealthyaroura

wrong answer ArMaP I grew up watching TOMORROWS WORLD being a child in the 70's
we were promised all the cool tech! and proved it was on the way. flying cars, home robots
jet packs, etc etc but it all just stopped when the big players in stone age fossil fuel crap
the greedy bastards said NO we will hold all the good stuff back!

And don't you dare come back with a lame "but we have these now garbage" that's not the point!
It should all be common place we should be zooming about on zero point hover boards!

Elvis and this IS a guess I would say 1920's?

I was a child in the 70s and I wasn't promised a thing. :)

As for the electric car, seeing that electric motors are older than internal combustion engines, I suppose it was before World War I.

But you probably never viewed TOMORROWS WORLD. this was the cutting edge technology show of the day pal and these were encouraging times but then the 80;s came and we seemed to slow down to a snails pace.
Look what was accomplished from 1945-1970 SO MUCH STUFF (roswell ;D :o)
more was done and released onto the market in those 25 years than there has been in the years since 1970 at least what we know about or is available to select lucky few.NO?

And the electric car, 1st world war era? maybe. time to take a google me thinks ;)

SO Top Gear Elvis :) I do watch it on TV occasionally BUT I have to say there magazine
is in a different league.
My sister bought me a copy in april (april issue) I was looking through it the other day and it
had the Ford Ecotech/Ecoboost engine in.That would be the 3 cylinder 12 valve turbo yes?
Nice piece of motor! very revy.
The magazine whilst being £3.99 it's worth every penny there is just month's of reading material.

Great feature on "la ferrari" the  peugeot "onyx" concept car and much much more that probably
won't make it onto the show or it may take a while.I RECOMEND IT IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW. ???
Also a great piece on the design legend that is http://danielsimon.com/ take a peek. 8)
