Ok, I know most of you think that TV is the breath of Beelzebub (/bi???lz?b?b/ bee-EL-z?-bub or /?bi?lz?b?b/ BEEL-z?-bub; ( Hebrew: ?????? ???????, Baal(for fortune ones) Z?vûv; Arabic: ??? ???????, Ba'al ... Etc.

But lots of people watch it..

And when the commercials come on the sound is less compressed ( deliberately ).     To get your attention.

So one of you eggheads could surely come up with a little box that could  regulate the volume of a commercial break.

Maybe even mute it....

You would make the entire TV watching world a little happier!

And yourself a lot richer.......

Do you see what I did there ;)

Yes, some guy here came up with a box that picked up the 2 second gap in transmission just before a commercial. That invention lasted about 2 weeks before they removed that gap.
Now we have digital TV they just compress the commercials further so you are always adjusting the sound up and down.
You would need a special algorithm to pick up the variance in modulation: Doable, but mighty expensive to mass produce.
Sit down before fact like a small child, and be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature lead, or you will learn nothing. —T. H. Huxley

Well my point exactly.

Everybody seems scared of the idea.

But it's a bloody good idea.

Actually what is odd about audible compression here in OZ at least is that after watching Motogp on Channel One (commercial Station) is that when I switch to ABC (the Gov station/network) I have to get all kungfu on my remote to turn the volume down.

That is odd as Commercial Channels used to be the worst at over compression of the Audio Signal!

I almost have to turn my Samsung TV up to full blast to hear what Daryll Beattie is mumbling about  ;D
