While this tech looks to be in the beginning stages, this does
indicate there might come a day when they can "grow"
a brain. Remember that old saying, "get a brain will ya?" .

;D

Frankenstein anyone?

As with all of this type of advancement, there is potential
for good, and certainly misuse. What could possibly go wrong?

We've long been fascinated by the human brain but could we soon be growing them to order?

Austrian scientists have grown a miniature human brain from stem cells, according to a report in the prestigious journal Nature.

The scientists are referring to the creation as an "organoid" and Nature describes it as a 4mm pea-sized structure with about the same level of development as a nine-week foetus.

The mini-brain has survived for nearly a year at the Austrian Academy of Science. But without a blood supply nutrients and oxygen couldn't penetrate into the middle of the brain-like structure, so it hasn't grown any larger than its current pea size. It is hoped that the research will open up new avenues to study complex brain disorders, like autism and schizophrenia, but it raises some ethical alarm bells.

Is it just me or does that look like a rattle snake in the top part of the Organoid?  :-X

i wonder if tptb are softening the blow of whats possible.we have all known of stemcell potential for over ten years but supposedly nobody has done this until now.i havent done the research but i would assume that all parts could be grown.why this stuff is not in full scale mass production blows my mind.and now with 3d machines that make bladders  kidneys and hearts.whats the hold up?from what i understand the scaffolding for the cells to attach to is jellow made from pig skin.as long as its virus free i think its all awesome.
ive never been much for rules.
being me has its priviledges.

@Robo,

Let us hope that the power does not fall into the wrong
