NBC: Police Remove Vietnam War Veterans at Memorial Wall

The really SCARY part is that the Cops are blindly obeying a Government that just shut down and put people on Furlough

How DUMB is that?

QuoteVia William Jacobson, NBC's affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that police ordered tourists and Vietnam war veterans who were visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to leave the memorial at one point on Friday.

After one group of veterans went around the barricade, "the park ranger told them the wall was closed," NBC's Mark Seagraves reported. "Later another group of vets showed up and moved the barricades. At that point, the memorial filled with vets and tourists. That's when police came and moved everyone out."

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a black granite outdoor wall on which the names of the 58,272 service members who died or were unaccounted for during the Vietnam war are inscribed.

It takes more manpower and costs the government more money to close down an outdoor wall than to let people walk past it and pay their respects.

The Obama administration has been very selective in devoting resources to shutting down memorials.

Gigas, this statement I can understand. Like most bills now adays they make them very complicated. Thousands of pages to read and most are so hard to read you need a laws lawyer to translate. Most of the time they have no time to read it and are forced to blind sign it.   If I gave you a telephone book and 2 hours what can one do? You are stuck with reading it latter. The PTB have this mastered now. In reality it would be better if all bills were just one line and very clear to read. They should be given enough time and assistance to understand it and not forced to sign it saying your not a good American if you don't.   So I can see both sides of this and we the people are letting this happen. Lots of pork in DC these days. 2 legged pork. lol

The Seeker

t also appears to be causing issues with the GPS system; but I want to know how many peeps are getting mad about all this crap and planning protests?

Seems they can protest everything else...

And it appears to me that dude from Texas is a total idiot; harnessing wind power reduces the amount of wind???? And it is a finite resource??? Really? :o

U.S. Air Force to shut down 'Space Fence' surveillance system

THIS one is interesting....

QuoteWASHINGTON | Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:11pm EDT
(Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force will shut down its space surveillance system that tracks satellites and other orbiting objects by October 1 due to budget constraints caused by automatic federal budget cuts known as the sequestration, it announced Monday.

Deactivating the system by October 1 would save the Air Force Space Command $14 million annually starting in fiscal year 2014.

The surveillance system got the nickname "Space Fence" because it transmits a "fence" of radar energy vertically into space that can detect any object or debris that crosses it without being cued to do so.

Commander of the Air Force Space Command, General William Shelton, said the system - which has been in operation since 1961 - was outmoded and that newer technology will provide more accurate observations.

So now that it is shut down we can have that Alien Invasion :D

Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends

QuoteLas Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen."

Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.
