Governments have created a system that protects the profits of companies while those who suffer from nuclear disasters end up paying the costs.

The disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in March 2011 proves again that industry profits and people pay.

Almost two years after the release of massive amounts of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster, hundreds of thousands of people are still exposed to the long-term radioactive contamination caused by the accident.

The daily lives of victims are disrupted. They have lost their homes, their jobs, their businesses, their farms, their communities, and a way of life they enjoyed.

This new Greenpeace report demonstrates how the nuclear sector evades responsibility for its failures. The nuclear industry is unlike any other industry: it is not required to fully compensate its victims for the effects of its large, long-lasting, and trans-boundary disasters.

In this report, the current status of compensation for victims of the Fukushima disaster is analysed as an example of the serious problems due to lack of accountability for nuclear accidents.

The report also looks into the role of nuclear suppliers in the failure of the Fukushima reactors.

We learned from Fukushima that nuclear power can never be safe. The nuclear industry, largely protected from the financial liability for the Fukushima accident, continues to do business, while the Fukushima victims still lack proper compensation and support.

Would things be different if the next big nuclear disaster happened in your country? You would likely be facing the very same problems.

We have to phase out dangerous nuclear power entirely, and do so as soon as possible. Yet, if there is another major nuclear accident, people could be given better protection if we hold the nuclear industry fully accountable and liable.

We need to learn the lessons from Fukushima, and change the system in order to make all companies in the nuclear industry responsible for the risks they create.

With all due respect to the criminal rights of the Japanese Fukushima utility company that oversaw the nuclear disaster in Japan last year, it is now an unquestioned fact that radiation from across the Pacific has spread and saturated the US.

Given the concern by some regarding the possibility of some radioactive Fallout contamination making its way from Japan across the Pacific Ocean, 4,500 miles to California and the west coast of the United States (and beyond), here is the current forecast loop of the Jet Stream.

This is not intended to be alarmist in any way.

Rather, only showing what 'could' happen if enough ingredients come into play.

It is possible that some Cs-137 (Cesium) and-or iodine-131 from the Fukushima nuclear power plant meltdown could make its way into the Troposphere and get disbursed over the northern hemisphere, including the West Coast U.S.

First, it was radioactive debris washing ashore in California.

Then it was food and machinery imported from Japan with high levels of radiation.

Then, polar bears and other wildlife in the US began suffering from radiation poisoning.

Now, hundreds of US flight attendants appear to be the latest American victims.

Until now, Americans only had to contend with radioactive toys and electronics quietly being sold throughout the US on the discount market.

Add to that a little tainted Japanese food and some infected car parts, most of which were caught at the border, the US government thinks.

And don't forget the polar bears – "the polar bears, daddy, the polar bears" (love that commercial).

Well, any chance at saving the world's polar bears from extinction just went out the window.

As if the warming temperatures and disappearing ice and food weren't bad enough, now the animal is plagued with skin sores and loss of fur, slowly dieing out from what appears to be radiation poisoning.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska polar bears are losing their fur and U.S. Geological Survey scientists don't know why.

In the past two weeks, nine of 33 bears checked by scientists in the southern Beaufort Sea region near Barrow were found to have alopecia – loss of fur – and skin lesions, said Tony DeGange, chief of the biology office at the USGS Science Center in Anchorage.

That's where the official, agreed-upon story ends.

According to officials and victims alike, a new mysterious illness afflicting the US airline industry has nothing to do with the nuclear explosions and resulting radiation emitted from the destroyed nuclear power plants in Fukushima, Japan.

As detailed in NaturalNews.com yesterday,

"Hundreds of Alaska Airlines flight attendants have filed a formal complaint about uniforms they suspect might be causing their skin to rash and develop lesions, and their hair to fall out."

Still referring to it as a "mystery illness", it appears nobody wants to be the one to put out a call for panic throughout the US.

Media outlets in Seattle were the first to put a spotlight on what they termed the "mystery illness" among Alaska Airlines flight attendants.

But even they wouldn't point the finger at something as potentially deadly as radiation poisoning from Japan.   

So far, 280 flight attendants have been stricken with the 'mystery illness'. Reports describe, "Those afflicted by the condition say they have developed persistently itchy skin, skin lesions, and hair loss."

Blame the new uniforms
Surprisingly, the victims, their union and the media have all suggested that the mystery illness that looks identical to radiation poisoning, is actually a result of the airlines giving toxic uniforms to its flight attendants. Reports reveal that the new uniforms, "allegedly contain tributyl phosphate, a toxic organophosphorus compound linked to skin problems."

The theory is actually very believable.

The Bush administration poisoned 103,000 American families and wasted billions of dollars when it provided emergency, temporary housing to the millions of victims of Hurricane Katrina.

While government officials made matters worse by denying the allegations, the FEMA trailers were found to contain dangerously high levels of the toxic chemical formaldehyde.

So, the thought that hundreds of uniforms provided to flight attendants throughout the American northwest may also be tainted with deadly chemicals, isn't so far-fetched.

At least that's what the flight attendants union is suggesting.

After the destructive hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast in August and September 2005, FEMA Spent more than $2.5 billion to buy up nearly 150,000 trailers, campers, and mobile homes, many of which were never even used.

In 2007, the government started to sell these travel trailers ... many were gobbling up the FEMA trailer deals rather that spending $25,000 to $40,000 for a brand-new trailer.

After some time, however, a media storm hit with reports of formaldehyde in the construction of the trailers, and, in December 2007, "out of an abundance of caution" and because Congressional leaders expressed outraged, the Government suddenly stopped selling the FEMA Travel Trailers.

But demand for them had never died down.

However, there is new batch ... for sale and these DO NOT seem to be designated as scrap, but are simply being sold with a warning that they are manufactured with formaldehyde and have not been tested.

While the government has stated that any "scrap" FEMA Trailers should not be used for occupancy and are not intended for habitation -- and we certainly do not advocate their use for anything other than scrap -- a FEMA Release posits that the trailers are suitable for other non-occupancy uses such as for office space, command posts, or storage...

A culture of denial
More than a month ago, researchers at AlaskaPublic.org began releasing their findings and documentation showing a massive epidemic of disease among the arctic's polar bears. Symptoms included mysterious skin lesions and patchy hair loss.

The study also revealed that polar bears weren't alone.

The mystery illness had also devastated the seal and walrus populations as well. Rather than alert the world to the obvious, considering the timing and symptoms, government officials instead blamed everything but radiation. They called it a virus, bacteria, even a natural occurrence.

But they still won't acknowledge the die-off is most likely due to radiation poisoning from Fukushima.

Many external agencies have detected high levels of radiation in food items, clothes, and even the sea water in the West Coast of the US.

Researchers have even found that many of the sea animals have been affected by radiation poisoning.

An article published in Rense.com talks about how a dead sea lion, which was found lying in the Southern California Coast, was discovered to be radioactive. The article tells us the alarming level of radiation detected in its remains.

"A quick scan with a dosimeter revealed that the sea lion was radioactive. More careful measurements disclosed a shocking 0.48 microsieverts in the heart and liver region. The second most affected area was its rear flippers, probably due to repeated contact with fecal excretions. The nose and mouth were a bit less contaminated."

Consider the fact that the Earth rotates and everything that happens in Japan will slowly move across the Pacific Ocean and hit the US. Also consider that the first area in the US to be struck with radioactive debris was the west coast.

The mystery illness devastating the polar bears, seals and walruses is also currently hitting western North America - Alaska and Canada's Yukon territory.

Now consider that the first mass human infections are taking place among Alaska Airline workers.

While we're covering the topic of possible radiation poisoning of American flight attendants due to the nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima last year, here are a few more related news items generally being kept from the American people.

   •   Tests by Cal State University Long Beach on California's Kelp population found the fish caught just off the Orange County coast had levels of radio-isotopes 250 times higher than before the Japanese nuclear accident. Scientific American 3/30/12.

   •   US grass, hay and milk is contaminated with more than double the legal amount of radiation. 3 recent studies of milk purchased in San Francisco found all three batches contaminated with radio-isotopes. Scientists explained that milk will have a long-term contamination rate (2-30 years depending on specifics), because the nuclear fallout infects the grass and hay that dairy cows eat for years. Energy News 4/16/12.

   •   Rainwater falling throughout the US has tested positive for radiation poisoning at 131 times the government recognized safe level. As scientists point out, 'the rainwater coats the grass that cows eat, thus infecting the cow's milk with radiation poisoning'. BayCitizen.org.

   •   100 million tons of radiation-infected debris is continually washing ashore on America's west coast. Items traveling the 4,500 mile distance across the Pacific took 280 days to begin hitting the US after the Fukushima nuclear disaster and include a wide array of debris including, 'wrecked fishing vessels to household furniture and even body parts.' UK Daily Mail 12/16/11.

With both the Japanese and US governments going to obvious and great lengths to avoid raising the panic of massive and widespread radiation poisoning throughout America, it's not likely the true level of danger Americans are in will ever be officially revealed, or even acknowledged.

What we do know is that just after the Fukushima nuclear explosions, a radioactive cloud struck the United States with the initial and largest impact hitting southern and central California. It is there that seaweed levels testing positive for the radioactive Iodine-131 showed levels 5-times that of any other location in the US.

And with the radiation being spread throughout America via rain – infecting people, vegetation and animals – this problem is not isolated on the west coast.

According to experts, cancers and other effects from low-level, prolonged exposure to radiation will spike across the US over the next 9 years. And if Chernobyl is any indication, where 3 million people were victims of radiation poisoning, the Fukushima disaster was many times larger than Chernobyl.


Americans can take heart however, the government is on the case.   

Federal officials are already desperately trying to change official guidelines governing radiation poisoning, raising the level of acceptable radiation.

That way, regardless of how much radiation infects the US, they can say it is within the safety level and poses no threat.   

While that is going on, victims will be paying close attention to the number cancer cases over the coming decade.

Unfortunately, that's how long it will take to prove which side is telling the truth.

Caught On Camera: Fire At Fukushima?

We are by no means experts at identifying instances of fire caught on camera under low illumination conditions, but the following compressed 3 minute video from the official Tepco YouTube feed (where 1 second of the clip represents 20 seconds in real time) showing the Fukushima nuclear power plant between 8:00pm and 9:00 pm last night, and particularly the segment 1:16 into the clip and continuing for about 30 seconds (or about 6 minutes in the real world), certainly looks disturbing.

That said, we are confident Tepco has a canned and ready for dissemination explanation which soothes away fears that in addition to free gamma rays, the Fukushima sarcophagus is now also in the flambé a la carte business.

It also looks at the criminal cover-up of the safety dangers of the plant by TEPCO and GE management, which built the plant in Fukushima.

Included is an interview with Kei Sugaoka, the GE nuclear plant inspector from the bay area who exposed cover-ups in the safety at the Fukushima plant and was retaliated against by GE.

This documentary allows the voices of the people and workers to speak out about the reality of the disaster and what this means not only for the people of Japan but the people of the world as the US government and nuclear industry continue to push for more new plants and government subsidies.

This film breaks the information blockade story line of the corporate media in Japan, the US and around the world that Fukushima is over.

according to an interim report by an expert panel at the Hokkaido Disaster Management Council.

The experts, led by Minoru Kasahara, a professor emeritus at Hokkaido University, raised the maximum
predicted magnitude of an earthquake near Hokkaido from 8.6 to 9.1 based on sediments
collect from past tsunami.

"As a result, the maximum height of the tsunami could be as high as 35.1 meters at Tokachi Port
in Hiroo, Hokkaido.

The figure exceeds the Cabinet Office's 34.4-meter predicted height for a tsunami in Kuroshio, Kochi Prefecture,
in the event of a massive quake in the Nankai Trough.

According to the projections, a tsunami of 30 meters or higher could strike five towns in Hokkaido,
while a tsunami between 20 meters and 30 meters could hit another six cities and towns, including Kushiro. [Ibid]

"In the panel's simulations, the epicentral area of the massive earthquake was estimated to be in areas
off northern Sanriku to the Nemuro coast.

It is presumed that a magnitude-8 earthquake will occur about every 500 years at the boundary
of the tectonic plate extending from areas off Tokachi to areas off Nemuro.

The Hokkaido government had previously predicted that the largest possible earthquake would have
a magnitude of 8.6 and trigger a tsunami with a maximum height of 22 meters

However, based on lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake, institutions have begun
forecasting the worst possible earthquakes that may occur once every several hundreds of years,
or every 1,000 years. [Ibid]
