Okay, we must ban bananas...Especially the harder green ones.  Can't be hurting anyone with fruit.  Use only mushy bananas.  Media must be hard up for news.

Police Fed Suspect Damu Gupta 96 Bananas To Recover Gold Chain
By David Lohr Posted: 01/03/2014 10:58 am EST  |  Updated: 01/03/2014 10:58 am EST

No matter how you peel it, the thought of eating 96 bananas is not too appealing. But that's how many bananas an accused thief in India was fed to help him pass a gold chain through his bowels.

According to The Times of India, 28-year-old Damu Gupta was riding a train from Mumbai to Gondia on Dec. 22. During the lengthy trip, Gupta snatched a gold chain from a doctor who was also a passenger, according to police.

The victim, identified as Dr. Sheetal Kamble, of the Akola district, cried out for help, prompting several passengers to chase Gupta. The suspect was quickly cornered, but denied stealing the chain. However, one of the passengers claimed they had witnessed him swallowing something, prompting police to conduct a thorough search.

"We initially conducted a regular X-ray but it didn't detect anything. So on [Dec. 25] we conducted an ultrasound which revealed the chain in Gupta's abdomen," Sampat Nirmal, a senior inspector with the Government Railway Police in Kalyan, told The Times of India.

Rather than wait for the 11-gram gold chain to naturally pass through Gupta's system, authorities reportedly fed him 96 bananas to help it along on it's travels. The following day, investigators recovered the chain from the suspect's fiber-laden feces.

After the recovery of the chain, Gupta allegedly told police he swallowed the chain because he was afraid of getting beat up by the other passengers.

Authorities have not said how Gupta felt after consuming some eight dozen bananas in 24 hours.

According to Med-Health.net, eating too many bananas can be dangerous and sometimes fatal.

"They are typically considered a healthy food, but it is possible to eat too many," the website states. "How much is too many depends on the individual's needs for certain vitamins and minerals, but eating too many bananas can have unpleasant side effects."

The side effects, according to the website, include, headaches, nerve damage and hyperkalemia, a condition that can cause an irregular heartbeat and cardiac arrest.

It's probably safe to say Gupta didn't "peel" too fabulous when he took a bite out of crime

Man crashes into gas station, steals one banana

Police are looking for a man who crashed his car into a Connecticut gas station and stole a banana. He didn't take anything else from the store.

NEWINGTON, Conn.  — Call it the case of the banana-eating bandit.

Police in Connecticut say they're looking for a man who smashed his vehicle into a gas station in Newington, swiped a banana from a shelf and ate it before leaving early Wednesday morning. Nothing else was taken.

The store's surveillance video shows a Ford Freestyle with Connecticut license plates backing repeatedly into the store and breaking the glass doors, which set off the burglar alarm at about 2 a.m.

The man was gone before police arrived.

Authorities describe him as a black man who was wearing a brown hat, dark jacket and dark pants. Police say the station wagon has damage to the driver's side taillight and rear bumper.

Cocaine Discovered In Banana Boxes At Berlin Supermarkets

BERLIN (Reuters) - Boxes filled with bananas and cocaine were delivered to five Berlin supermarkets in what police on Tuesday called a "logistical error" by drug smugglers.

Supermarket staff discovered the containers with a total of 140 kg of cocaine on Monday shortly before the fruit went on sale to the public, police and customs investigators said.

It was the largest discovery of cocaine in Germany's capital in about 15 years and has an estimated black market value of 6 million euros, according to police.

"We were of course surprised," senior police officer Olaf Schremm, who heads the local drug investigation department, told reporters. "I don't know where the mistake was in the perpetrators' delivery chain."

The banana cartons, part of a consignment of 1,134 boxes, were brought by ship from Colombia to Hamburg and delivered to a fruit wholesaler in Berlin. Cocaine was found in seven of them, Schremm said.

The boxes were eventually delivered to five supermarkets in the Berlin area, but investigators said the intended destination of the cocaine was unclear.

Masked officers in bulletproof vests showed the seized boxes to media. The cocaine will be stored and eventually destroyed.

Drugs are often smuggled in container ships from South America to Europe, the police said, adding that it is very difficult to keep track of thousands of containers which are stored in the port of Hamburg for only a short time.

"At the end of the day, it's beyond one's control," Schremm said.

German authorities say drug smugglers use air mail or couriers to import cocaine more often than ships. In 2012, investigators seized 1.26 metric tonnes of cocaine in total.
