USA Severe Cold weather ..Swirling 'Polar Vortex' Over Northern US.

Are they messing with the weather yet again !...
Could see coldest temps in 20 years..

Just watched the News in the UK on the BBC with ref to abc news USA..
and it says about a severe cold weather spell from the Artic with Temperatures as cold as - 65 in wind Chill in some places... :o

God help the Homeless or anyone getting caught outside or unable to warm themseleves..

A whirling onslaught of frigid air, known as a polar vortex, moves menacingly over the northern United States in a new photo from a weather satellite in orbit.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's GOES-East satellite snapped the telling photo today (Jan. 6) at 11:01 a.m. EST (1601 GMT). In the image, the polar vortex is pushing southward over western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota, blasting half of the continental United States with chilly Arctic air.

The polar vortex is a sprawling area of low pressure typically found over both the North and South poles, according to NASA. The northern polar vortex typically circulates from west to east in the Arctic during winter, but a high-pressure system parked over Greenland and Canada has pushed the cold air into the United States. This is causing air temperatures to drop across the northern U.S., and the Arctic air is being felt as far south as Atlanta.

Yesterday, the swirling polar vortex caused a staggering temperature difference of 140 degrees Fahrenheit (77 degrees Celsius) across the country, from North Dakota to Florida. The polar vortex is expected to move northward back over Canada near the end of the week, NASA officials said in a statement.

The GOES-East satellite also captured a frontal system along the U.S. East Coast

How would we know when the next ice age has started - immediately, 1 winter passing, 2 winters passing..........??

astr0144

Hope you guys & Girls are Ok and can deal with it...

Knowing that they can control the weather, its hard to say if they aim to raise the countries heating bills or if it is just a natural cycle ...

If it is start of a new Ice-age...Maybe If we see 3 to 5 years in a row.

Usually when the US gets Cold weather we get in in Europe soon after.. :-\

I do think that in WarToad's OP about the tunnel blockage, they do mention that at some point in the past, a 3,000-foot-thick ft sheet of ice covered that entire area of Seattle and 50 miles to the south. This ice sheet must have been a part of the last ice age. My guess is, we probably know less about how an "ice age happens" on this Earth, than most are willing to admit. We know it gets warm for a little while, and then we know it gets cold for a lot longer that it was warm. We likely know little more than that, other than being able to show from ice cores when these cycles have occurred approximately.

What if this is the start of the ice age? Would people actually have some time to prepare for its "beginning" - only the "beginning", because they do last many 10's of thousands of years??

As some of the reports say, it is colder in some of the US northern areas than it is in places at the poles. If these temps remained consistent, it could/would get icy preeeeeeeeety quick!!

astr0144

After some of our (& P.R.C related ) previous discussions..it was suggested on one TV Horizon program that I seen 5 to 10 years ago , that we could see Ice age conditions in less than 20 years...

And the Gulf & Jet stream has been moved further south for some time more often...who knows !

As the Human race goes , I don't think we have not had that many times in our past to experience it..In the past there was little education if any...At least today we know a lot more..but it may be just as hard to predict it even with our technology..

If and when it arrives, we may just not realise it or know it is the start until its too late..

Did I read recently that the Suns Magnetic Poles Very recently flipped !

If so I wonder if there any similar connections in past cold spells or past Ice ages !

Well, I am in Texas which is pretty far south of the worst temps, but the low here tonight is forecast to be 17 degrees, and it is 19 right now, @ 8:45 PM. But many of the areas north of Texas in the country's mid-section presently have temps in the "minus" degrees.

No, not many of us are actually prepared for extended periods of cold with alternative heat needed, if electricity is "off". And then food availability could quickly get to be a problem too, if a "no-power" situation occurred.

Yes, that was a subject of discussion here. The flipping is a normal reoccurring thing. One of the not normal things about this flip of the Sun's poles is - - - normally the poles usually change their + - reasonably close to the same time frame of the Solar Maximum. This time, and with the last I heard, only the North pole has flipped, in May 2013, and the other has not flipped yet.

The pole changes take place at the end of the peak cycle of the Sun, which happens about every 11 years. Also as noted in prior discussions, the 2013's cycle solar peak turned out to be one of the weakest observed in the past century. So, who knows what influence our star's activities are having upon our changing weather conditions""

astr0144

Yes, I think if one can , it may be wise to try and stock up on some things just in case...No harm in taking precaution early on in case cold spell lasts a while..

With ref to weather in recent years...I loose track, although I recall a few years ago was the worst Day in the UK for 100 years..Not sure about the USA or world as a whole.

But since 2010 the article below wrote in 2011 said 2010 was a warmer year for the world in general, but not in the UK that was colder than normal...in the UK I think we have had colder spells than norm for the last 3 years and if we get it again as I think we will after the USA gets it, we usually will do...so it may be 4 years in a row.

Could do with some yearly statistics for last 10 to 20 years for both USA and UK/Europe..

If I recall , We did previously before 2010 have 10 years of relatively milder years & winters..

Thanks for reminding us of the details on the Suns Pole Flip !

Yes I recall the 11 year cycle !...

So I wonder if we tend to be getting some variation in our weather patterns based on this cycle...although not always right from the start of it..

Again it would be of interest to compare past 100 years of data in connection to the 11 yr cycle..I suspect we may find it somewhere on the Net ,if we get time !

Northern Minnesota colder than Mars this week

This looks a little like Mars. It's actually Hibbing Taconite, which was for a time colder than Mars.

QuoteIt's cold in northern Minnesota.

How cold is it? It is reported that temperatures in Duluth and surrounding region of northern Minnesota have been colder than Mars this week, according to reports from NASA's Mars rover Curiosity on the Red Planet.

Embarrass and International Falls were both under 40 below (F) Thursday night, while the Mars rover reported a mere 26 below. Temperatures at least that cold are forecast for Sunday and Monday.

In other words, a planet 140 million miles further from the Sun than Earth was warmer than parts of northern Minnesota last night. Granted, there are caveats. The Mars rover is close to the Martian equator right now. (The average temperature on Mars is 80 below, Fahrenheit). Still, there it is.

It's going to be a little warmer today — perhaps even above zero. Then another week-long cold snap is expected, making us once again colder than Mars.

Dreaming seems to be more of a reality with clear uncontaminated thought , Awakening draws one into self indused fog of so called reality of life.Doing the same usleless routine. Media programed minds...they want to keep us busy, not wanting us to really see the reality of what is hidden from us all.

I feel for all PRC members in such cold ...

-25 degrees is about the Coldest we have had it in England...(-27 in Scotland)
