Noah's Ark may have been round and not pointed

Despite popular belief that Noah's Ark was a long vessel with a pointy bow, a new study suggests that the original shape of the vessel was actually round.

A recently deciphered 4,000-year-old clay tablet from ancient Mesopotamia-modern-day Iraq-reveals striking new details about the roots of the Old Testament tale of Noah.

It tells a similar story, complete with detailed instructions for building a giant round vessel known as a coracle-as well as the key instruction that animals should enter "two by two," Fox News reported.

The tablet went on display at the British Museum on Friday, and soon engineers will follow the ancient instructions to see whether the vessel could actually have sailed.

It's also the subject of a new book, 'The Ark Before Noah,' by Irving Finkel, the museum's assistant keeper of the Middle East and the man who translated the tablet.

Finkel got hold of it a few years ago, when a man brought in a damaged tablet his father had acquired in the Middle East after World War II. It was light brown, about the size of a mobile phone and covered in the jagged cuneiform script of the ancient Mesopotamians.

It turned out, Finkel said Friday, to be "one of the most important human documents ever discovered."

Finkel said a round boat makes sense. Coracles were widely used as river taxis in ancient Iraq and are perfectly designed to bob along on raging floodwaters. (ANI)

Do we now call it Noahs Bowl? History needs to be rewriten again. Will we ever know for sure about anything?

FWIW - Of course, "round" does not fit with Biblical scripture, relative to "Noah's ark".

Genesis 6 - God said to Noah:

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

Maybe Noah thought cubits were rooms or stalls. What you tell someone and what they do is not always the same. Just a thought.

Noah had better sense than to disobey God, and of course, God knew Noah's heart as he knows the hearts of all men.

Genesis 7:5 says  "And Noah doth according to all that Jehovah hath commanded him": so that statement doesn't leave much room for discussion of any disobedience by Noah does it?

FWIW, I do understand that not everyone believes any of this. But, if the subject is about Noah's ark, then there is some benefit to relating a bit of Biblical scripture, as ithe Bible is the primary interpreted knowledge source basis for the subject ark and flood.

Because most people here know that the NOAH story is just a copy of the older Sumerian TRUE story with a bunch of "Lo and Beholds" tossed in

Sumerians believed that the universe consisted of a flat disk enclosed by a tin dome... so yeah  the ARK was round

as ithe Bible is the primary interpreted knowledge source basis for the subject ark and flood.

Nah lots of better stories of arks and floods other than you book. And my ark has a lot more room for those 14 of each clean beasts and 4 of each unclean beast

Quite true... actually NONE of the "scripture" you quote has ANY validity as the original was in Aramaic

Show me the scripture in Aramaic and provide me with an unbiased interpreter and we will talk   And I am pretty certain that God never once said "Lo and Behold..." so all that is a man adding it

If you gave me details, you would not get a nice pretty boat that we all see in the movies. From what you wrote, I would deliver a barge sealed with pitch inside and out. A nice rectangle, like a tisue box. After all there is no motor or sails, Just needs to float.

A retangular barge could hold at least 30% more animals also. So maybe we are looking for a boat with nice lines and should just be looking for a rectangle 300 x 50 with the walls blown down by now.

And how they ever got all of the animals from the Americas and the Islands around the world to all get to the Arc is still beyond my thinking ability. I scratch my head on that one.

It seems Zorgon don't trust any interpreters.  I have learned that also, , but also to discover facts for myself when it comes to interpreting ancient documents.

Now about what God said, , , in todays language for Zorgon the hermeneutics of that would probably have been "Yo, Check it out. "
