It may be fitting that a third generation of high tech research will occupy Hangar One, with Google's various futuristic projects replacing the blimps of the thirties and NASA in the sixties and seventies. But the cozy relationship between NASA and Google has caused trouble before.

A shell company owned by the company's founders and chairman, H211 LCC, which operates the company's private jet fleet, has been leasing tarmac space at the airfield since 2007. The jets there—including a Boeing 767, 757 and four Gulfstream V jets—bought fuel at government discount prices in exchange for providing free research flights to NASA. When the Wall Street Journal revealed that comparatively few of the flights were for NASA purposes, the arrangement was ended, and the private jet fleet is headed for an airport in San Jose.

Is Google Planning Son of Teledesic?

Clark Lindsey over at New Space Watch  reports on the following rumor from Silicon Valley:

"NSG Analysts have heard from several usually reliable industry sources that a major company, possibly "Google or Facebook," could be announcing the launch of a very large constellation of satellites in the near future."

"Very large constellation" is defined as up to 1,600 small satellites. Based on information Parabolic Arc has received, the story seems to be true. Google appears to be pursuing a plan to provide global broadband services that is similar to a failed attempt by a company called Teledesic.

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has leased a massive building in San Francisco's Mission District to house engineers who came with the company's recent acquisitions, according to a new report from the Financial Times.

The 35,000-square-foot building is located at the corner of Alabama Street and 16th Street. It was the former office of a newspaper and catalogue printer, Howard Quinn, and is big enough to accommodate 200 people. Google's move into the large space indicates that the company could be planning to buy more start-ups as the search engine giant expands its services from web search to other market segments, such as robotics and wearable technology, the Times reported.
