While this is today's news, this event did happen in September of last year. One of the things that this does give us cause to think about - - any consideration for colonization on the Moon would need to make "potential meteor strikes" as being a much more possible/probably happening there, than on the Earth.

Actually, this rock, by size standatd, was pretty small!

The high-speed impact of a wayward space rock on the surface of the moon last year triggered the brightest lunar explosion ever seen, scientists say.

Video footage of the record-breaking meteorite strike on the moon, which occurred on Sept. 11, 2013 and was unveiled today, shows a long flash that was almost as bright as the North Star Polaris.

'At that moment I realized that I had seen a very rare and extraordinary event.'
- professor at the University of Huelva Jose Madiedo

That means the boulder-sized meteorite's lunar crash could have been visible to anyone on Earth who happened to be staring up at the moon at 8:07 p.m. GMT, weather permitting.

"At that moment I realized that I had seen a very rare and extraordinary event," Jose Madiedo, a professor at the University of Huelva, said in a statement. Madiedo witnessed the collision using two moon-watching telescopes in the south of Spain that are part of the Moon Impacts Detection and Analysis System, or MIDAS observatory. [The Greatest Moon Crashes of All Time]

The space rock hit at a staggering speed of 37,900 mph, gouging out a new crater roughly 131 feet wide in an ancient lava-filled lunar basin known as Mare Nubium, Madiedo and colleagues said. The scientists think the boulder behind the crash was about 880 lbs. and measured between 2 and 4.5 feet in diameter.

Notice it happened on 9/11/13 I wonder how they know the exact size and weight from here on earth? very strange wouldn't you say? I find the date even more bizarre was it really a meteor or a UFO landing thats massive. Good post here's a look at the actual impact and a simulation I wonder if the moon was nuked.

This was reported on Lunar Picture of the Day site back a few months ago. LPOD by Dr. Chuck Wood is a good place to keep up with any recent event on the moon.

The ONLY safe place on any surface is nowhere,  DEEP under it is the only safe place.  ;D

true, but they also slammed a satellite into it last year for a 'seismic test'.... ::)

yeah right, they wuz just destroying evidence, IMO :-X

The moon is WAY older than Earth, and was probably used as a space-ship to arrive here.

Hence all the 'meteor damage' ;)

...And the entrance to the hollow centre is probably on the Dark Side, happy hunting :)

P.S. maybe those square bunkers are the entrance?LOL

Ya ever notice all those craters on the moon look as if they suffered a direct head on hit. You never see a side shot hit from a glancing blow where all the moon material would be bulldozed to one side and piled up. I wonder why that is.

While I got your attention, why do we see locations that look as though a massive energy weapon detonated above surface with lateral spidering of material in all directions. Could this be a ship rising off the surface and being hit by an energy weapon and going critical exploding material laterally spidering in a circumference from the center.

The moon up there back side.

Then we see the moon of mars, Phobos, with strafing marks across its surface like a machine gun was turned lose as a ship flew by.

I don't know about you ladies and gentlemen but I see signs of war in space.

"was it really a meteor or a UFO landing thats massive"?

How can we know? Don't we still have cameras orbiting around the Moon, that could focus on this spot? Maybe we could get China to send up another spacecraft to check on it! ;)

I think that if this was the result of something happening above the Moon instead of on the surface the way it spreads would be different. One of the things studied on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings was the difference it made the altitude at which the bomb exploded.

Yes, but that "strafing" follows the shape of Phobos, as if it's part of the original structure of Phobos and not something that happened after.

I don't. :)

I do, but only recently :P

The moon could have easily been  spacecraft :P

Ever thought of that?

I surely see signs of an interplanetary war.  And ancient writings (Sumer) seem to bolster that concept.  At this point I give extremely high probability to the likelihood of a past interplanetary (if not a galactic) war.  I also give very high probability that the moon is not a remnant of the solar system development, but is, in fact, a ship from elsewhere.

Our moon was fabricated inside Jupiter 38 billlion years ago. It has been towed around serving the same purpose for other earths as it does for us and that is to provide underground labs for the grays to do their check ups on humans.

The moon is not and cannot be hollow. Like earth and every other planet it has huge underground caverns that are located several miles underground. These caverns are constructed into hi tech labs for the grays.

Most of the markings around Orientale are due to the method that the EMV (Electro Magnetic Vehicle) used to tow it here and there during the past 38 billion years.
