The tool is an accounting tool (accounting for the meaningful energy We Humans expend) that also promotes the most ruthless into the lion's share of control of the tool.  Take away the need for the tool and "despots" have nothing to pay toadies with.  What are Individuals going to do to gain control over Others without the ability to pay Others to do Their bidding?
