WHAT WILL YOU DO IF THEY MAKE IT MANDATORY FOR ALL AMERICANS TO TAKE AN EBOLA VACCINE?

Regardless of the source, this subject is very current, and it is one that very well could impact everyone. We are seeing a lot of news stories on this disease, and right now it is an unknown factor relative to just how much impact this disease could have on this world. The U.S. is even bring back in country persons with this disease for treatment - that in itself may give cause for some people to worry.

by MICHAEL SNYDER | AMERICAN DREAM | AUGUST 5, 2014

As the Ebola death toll rises and as images of bodies being abandoned in the streets of Liberia are broadcast around the globe, there has been a growing outcry for the scientific community to "do something" about this deadly virus.  And as luck would have it, there is an "experimental Ebola vaccine" that is ready to be tested on humans next month.  If Ebola starts to spread outside of Africa, and especially if it starts spreading inside the United States, people will be absolutely clamoring to get this vaccine.  But will it be safe?  And there will certainly be millions of people that do not want to take this vaccine under any circumstances.  If the outbreak gets bad enough, will it be made mandatory at some point?  If they do make it mandatory for all Americans to take an Ebola vaccine, what will you do?

They say that if this vaccine is approved, it could potentially be available to the public at some point in 2015.
If a full-blown Ebola epidemic is raging by that time, the demand will be overwhelming.  But many people will not be satisfied to just get the vaccine themselves.  They will want everyone living around them in their communities to get vaccinated as well for the sake of "herd immunity".  They will argue that those that refuse to get the Ebola vaccine are endangering public health.

So could politicians make the Ebola vaccine mandatory for all Americans at some point?  According to a paper by Jared P. Cole and Kathleen S. Swendiman, many states already have laws that allow for mandatory vaccinations "during a public health emergency"...

Many states also have laws providing for mandatory vaccinations during a public health emergency or outbreak of a communicable disease. Generally, the power to order such actions rests with the governor of the state or with a state health officer. For example, a governor may have the power to supplement the state's existing compulsory vaccination programs and institute additional programs in the event of a civil defense emergency period. Or, a state health officer may, upon declaration of a public health emergency, order an individual to be vaccinated "for communicable diseases that have significant morbidity or mortality and present a severe danger to public health." In addition, exemptions may be provided for medical reasons or where objections are based on religion or conscience. However, if a person refuses to be vaccinated, he or she may be quarantined during the public health emergency giving rise to the vaccination order. State statutes may also provide additional authority to permit specified groups of persons to be trained to administer vaccines during an emergency in the event insufficient health care professionals are available for vaccine administration.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE CHIEF ADMITS EBOLA 'OUT OF CONTROL,' SLAMS DRUDGE FOR REPORTING IT

This article says "Drudge report can drive a lot of panic". Does that mean we the people shouldn't be properly and well informed, so that we can take what ever caution is needed - and prepare as necessary?? I believe that the better informed the people are, the better this country can respond to any possible disaster!!!!!

on BREITBART TV  7 Aug 2014

Thursday at the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health hearing titled, "Combating the Ebola Threat," Samaritan's Purse's vice president of programs and government relations Ken Isaacs said, "Ebola is out of control in West Africa," and then criticized the reporting on the crisis by saying, "I look at the Drudge Report, it can drive a lot of panic."

Isaacs said, "I will say Ebola is out of control in West Africa, and we are starting to see panic now. Around the world, people want to know. I don't know about you folks. I look at the Drudge Report. It can drive a lot of panic. There is a guy in New York, a woman in England. Six people tested in the United States. There are reports of 340 peace corps workers coming back."

Confirming the new worthiness of the current "out of control" spread of the virus in heavily populated cities in West Africa at the end of the hearing Isaacs said, "We will see death tolls and numbers we can't imagine right now."

US Ebola outbreak 'possible' but likely not large: CDC chief

Do you think this is a possible understatement, just to not give people reason "for panic"?? Our government is telling us that "The US is going to get it, (but don't worry) but any outbreak in the US is not LIKELY large". But then goes on to tell us that the world is tied together with air travel. and Ebola moves across borders.  Thank you CDC Chief!!!  With that said, it is interesting that he does go on to tell us that we could have ill people in the US who develop Ebola after having been exposed elsewhere. >:(

I certainly hope that he is right, but......................................WOW, if he is not!!
"One of the things that I recognized during the evacuation of our staff is that there is only one airplane in the world with one chamber to carry a level-four pathogenic disease victim," Isaacs said.

This article also says that personal protective gear is hard to find in Liberia, and warned of the particular danger of kissing the corpse farewell during funeral rites.

"In the hours after death with Ebola, that is when the body is most infectious because the body is loaded with the virus," he said.

"Everybody that touches the corpse is another infection."

Washington (AFP) - People with symptoms of Ebola will inevitably spread worldwide due to the nature of global airline travel, but any outbreak in the US is not likely to be large, health authorities say.

Already one man with dual US-Liberian citizenship has died from Ebola, after becoming sick on a plane from Monrovia to Lagos and exposing as many as seven other people in Nigeria.

More suspected cases of Ebola moving across borders via air travel are expected, as West Africa faces the largest outbreak of the hemorrhagic virus in history, said Tom Frieden, the head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The virus spreads by close contact with bodily fluids and has killed 932 people and infected more than 1,700 since March in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Liberia.

"It is certainly possible that we could have ill people in the US who develop Ebola after having been exposed elsewhere," Frieden told a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations.

"But we are confident that there will not be a large Ebola outbreak in the US."
Frieden also told lawmakers that people with symptoms of the disease would inevitably spread worldwide, and indeed numerous countries have already begun testing patients with fever and gastrointestinal distress who have recently traveled to West Africa.

"We are all connected and inevitably there will be travelers, American citizens and others who go from these three countries -- or from Lagos if it doesn't get it under control -- and are here with symptoms," Frieden said.

However, a CDC spokesman later clarified that Frieden was not saying the United States was bound to get Ebola cases.

"It is inevitable that people are going to show up with symptoms. It is possible that some of them are going to have Ebola," said CDC spokesman Tom Skinner.

There is no treatment or vaccine for Ebola, but it can be contained if patients are swiftly isolated and adequate protective measures are used, Frieden said.

it comes down to a matter choice; first, understand that bad sanitary routines leads to the spread of ebola; yes, it could be very bad if it continues to spread un-checked; but good sanitary measures can contain it...

if the vaccine works (without major side-effects) and the risk does become high enough, I can see it being made mandatory to take it, especially if it becomes the lesser of two evils...

it also may fizzle out like the 2009 swine flu scare...

the seeker, I hope you are right! The world does have plenty of past experience with this disease, so it is well known. However knowing how to handle it in a pandemic situation is not so well known, as in the past Ebola has stayed pretty well isolated. But that doesn't seem to be the case initially this time. Now even two people have already been brought back into the US with the disease - absolute containment is hoped for!!!

Our government can downplay the possible future events, but, the results will the the teachers to all of us!

Vaccine? I will refuse it, unless my neighbors seem to be more zombie like than usual...then I might get a double shot. :o

Maybe Ill even let it get me as thats more noble than pandering to governmental scare tactics.

And yes, Seeker, hopefully it will fizzle....when our worthless leadership realizes there isnt a society here like that in Africa, where germs and all sorts of unsavory things spread like wildfire, due to irresponsible overpopulation, piss poor hygiene, and insane religious rituals such as kissing a corpse, among the woefully downtrodden and uninformed citizenry there.

Another fear tactic failed, as a populace such as in the USA will eventually rise up and stop the madness with whatever level of effort is necessary...its been done before.

Ebola zombies come within 100 yards of me? Theyre getting a 9mm ak round between the eyes..hey I watch The Walking Dead ya know..I aint stoopid..LOL!

One way trip to Fiji, anyone, to the new contagion-free Pegasus island resort? Bring your reverse osmosis filters and Sabiki rigs and we will have plenty of food and water!

There is a growing fear state in this nation, and the people who are falling prey to it are the same ones who often create, amplify, or perpetuate problems within it on a regular basis.

Paranoid suckers for and hopeless spreaders of mainstream media pablum. Or, the people of WalMart if you will.....

Maybe there shouldve been a vaccine for the Catholic Cult back in 324 AD......because now we have a world of laity, with no ability to do anything beyond scare and inspire others to run for the hills....

If everyone would gather themselves, and think clearly and see the agenda here, we would be so much better off as a nation.

That being said...were screwed.

Cheers! Now more than ever...

Psssshhhht.  I get every shot and vaccine out there as much as I travel.  I'll take it in a heartbeat and make sure my kids get it as well.  The whole anti-vaccine anti-medication movement has always been perplexing to me.

NATIONAL JOURNAL: FOUR REASONS WHY THIS EBOLA OUTBREAK IS DIFFERENT

This Ebola outbreak in comparison is similar to our thrust for spacial knowledge - we do not know what we don't know!!!  :o

National Journal Aug 8, 2014

West Africa is currently in the midst of the largest Ebola outbreak in history, and it's only getting worse.

Nearly 1,000 people have died and more than 1,700 have been infected by the deadly virus since the outbreak began in March, according to the latest data from the World Health Organization. The death toll is already nearly four times as high as the next highest on record, which occurred in the first documented outbreak in 1976.

And the virus shows no signs of letting up, leading WHO to declare the outbreak a "public health emergency of international concern" early Friday morning. The designation will require the agency to make recommendations for immediate international action against the outbreak and ramp up response, which many health experts say has been lacking.

The announcement was made by WHO Director General Margaret Chan at the conclusion of a two-day emergency meeting this week on how to deal with the virus.

To receive the designation, an outbreak must meet at least two of the following four criteria: Is the public health impact of this event potentially serious? Is this event unusual or unexpected? Is there the potential for international spread? And is there the potential for travel and trade restrictions?

So why is this time so different?

1. This is the first time an Ebola outbreak has occurred in West African countries.

2. There is tremendous mistrust of nontraditional or Western medicine in these areas.

3. This is the first time an outbreak has spread to city centers.

4. The response has not kept up with the virus.

EXPERT ON EBOLA THREAT: US OFFICIALS IN 'DENIAL,' 'DON'T WANT TO WORRY ABOUT IT'

Breibart
by TONY LEE  11 Aug 2014, 8:04 AM PDT

Days after experts said an Ebola outbreak in the U.S. may be "inevitable," Dr. Jane Orient, the executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, said, "there are just many things about this virus that we do not know and yet we are assuming that it is not going to affect us here."
"I don't think that we are prepared at all," she said on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125. "You would hope that the public health authorities are on high alert and they are going to let you know immediately if something happens. But I just don't see that. The public health people that I've talked to just don't want to worry about it."

Orient also said that the "CDC talks to different stories." She said their message to the population is essentially, "it's not very contagious, don't worry." But when they transport a patient with Ebola, "they are wearing a spacesuit," she said.

"The inconsistency has to make people feel very insecure," she said.
Orient said that Ebola had been easily contained when it was in rural African villages. But now that it is in some of the continent's most populous cities, she said "it makes it a whole lot more serious and difficult to contain."

I'm not going to worry about a vaccine. They're only producing on a single-dose scale at this point anyway. Remember, they used monkey doses on those two Americans.

Let's cross that bridge when we come to it, which at the rate of drug production in this country ought to be in about ten years.

Well right now, this information would make any decision ob the drug much easier - - there isn't any available!!

Ebola Drug Supply Is Exhausted After Doses Sent to Africa

Bloomberg News
By Caroline Chen and Robert Langreth   Aug 12, 2014

The Ebola drug given to two Americans and a Spanish priest has been sent to treat infected doctors in two West African countries, and the supply of the medicine is now gone, its manufacturer said.

Countries including Nigeria and Liberia had requested the drug, called ZMapp. Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., based in San Diego, said it has complied with every request for the drug that was authorized by legal and
regulatory authorities. The drug was provided at no cost, according to Mapp.

Mapp and its partners, Defyrus Inc. and a subsidiary of Reynolds American Inc., are working with the U.S. government to quickly increase production, the company said.

"Additional resources are being brought to bear on scaling up," the company said. "The emergency use of an experimental medicine is a highly unusual situation."

Providing a small amount of an experimental drug to West Africa won't help control the outbreak, said Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The focus needs to remain on basic public health and infection control measures, he said.

"How can a couple of doses control an outbreak with hundreds and hundreds of people?" Fauci said by phone.
"You don't control the epidemic with two or three doses."

The Ebola outbreak has killed 1,013 of the 1,848 people infected in West Africa as of Aug. 9, the World Health Organization said in a statement on its website. While other diseases are much more common and deadly, there is no cure for Ebola and it has moved quickly between countries, putting the global health community in high alert. Widespread malaria, which killed more than 600,000 people last year, is preventable and curable, according to the WHO.
