True  People on alcohol may be violent, depressed, happy or sleepy. That is because alcohol ENHANCES the mood you are in (until you are to drunk to stand )

Drugs are POISON too  how many drug overdoses are there in the US? 43,819 compared to  33,563 by firearm and 27,762 by alcohol 

Cannabis (Marijuana) is 0  but then all people I have seen smoking pot become lethargic and move (and think) in slow motion.  So they are less likely to get hurt in LaLa Land .  The problem is that the REACTION time of smokers is drastically reduced so if they are smoking on the job or driving  they are likely to kill OTHER people

But you druggies here will just be in denial   As far as I am concerned it SHOULD be legal... that way you weed smoking couch potatoes can contribute to society by paying taxes instead of support the drug lords as you are now

Maybe for you, for me it has zero religious context and zero commercial context, it has always been an excuse to celebrate the fact that we are still an united family (what is left of it), even if we don't have the money to have a real feast. Also, as my father's birthday was December 24 it has always had a slightly different aspect to us, specially since his death.

I am glad to hear your family takes that opportunity to get together and
connect. Many people do, and for that reason I think it is nice that there is a
holiday from work, and time to gather with loved ones.

As for the commercial aspect of it, many people gain seasonal jobs, they have
an opportunity to work and earn money. Many businesses finally pull out of
the red at this last month of the year. Sometimes those businesses share
that bonus with the employee.

Also, those people in the country that produces that commercial item can
count on Santa to buy stuff, and that also in turn gives those people an opportunity
to work, and those companies to hire seasonal work.

I think a better comparison would be between Rabun County and the Almada municipality, as districts are more a geographic definition and do not have local government status like (I think) a county has, while a municipality does have local government bodies.
