John, and others, what's your thoughts on the recent news from NASA regarding a new study to develop a manned outpost near the Farside of the Moon.  The study was proposed by NASA on Feb. 2 2012 and they want the results by March 30 2012.

QuoteEML-2 could serve as a gateway for capability-driven exploration of multiple destinations, such as near-lunar space, asteroids, the moon, the moons of Mars and, ultimately, Mars itself, according to NASA officials.

..

The memo spells out six strategic principles to help enable exploration beyond low-Earth orbit:

Incorporating significant international participation that leverages current International Space Station partnerships.

U.S. commercial business opportunities to further enhance the space station logistics market with a goal of reducing costs and allowing for private sector innovation.

Multiuse or reusable in-space infrastructure that allows a capability to be developed and reused over time for a variety of exploration destinations.

The application of technologies for near-term applications while focusing research and development of new technologies to reduce costs, improve safety, and increase mission capture over the longer term.

Demonstrated affordability across the project life cycle.

Near-term mission opportunities with a well-defined cadence of compelling missions providing for an incremental buildup of capabilities to perform more complex missions over time.

A few questions that I have are:

Is the Moon considered "Deep Space"

Are libration points considered fact given the current GRAIL missions that are studying the Moons gravity, not to mention other information that you have presented from Pari Spolter?

It just dawned on me that I've heard of a study that was already done awhile back as far as putting a Outpost/Base at one of the Libration Points.

It was Zorgons quiz:

QuoteSo you are Seeking the Truth?

Well on many forums I have seen people screaming and demanding that the Government and the PTB reveal the truth...

People demand researchers should work for FREE and bring them the answers...

But when those answers are laid out in front of them, most don't even look at the cover let alone visit the link and actually READ what is there...

And of the few who do... so very few actually grasp what it implies...

Now I can understand that technical journals are hard to read or understand...

And I understand videos and photos can be so easily doctored that they are almost worthless...

But if people don't take the time to LOOK CLOSELY... they will never see truth right under their noses.

So here is my test  a simple one page document...  I will close this thread and request that you take the test via PM

Read the paper... and write to me with what you gleaned from the paper. I will leave this here for a long time as we are barely 'open for business'  Results and answers will be posted into another thread and those that took the test will be able to see how they did.

Those that don't even try? You don't have a 'need to know' :P

Here is the paper from the original source...

Have fun  8)

PS I ran this for several months on ATS, who have millions of viewers. Out of all those viewers only FIVE(5) people took the test... and as I was one of the top posters there, it's not like it was buried in some basement :P

That paper is from 2004 so I assume that the idea of an Outpost is not new, but NASA wants a paper submitted in the next month as if its a new idea.

Then again, they forgot how to go to the Moon so who knows.

The Seeker

Dreb, I am assuming that you did not research Zorg's test material; I spent several weeks digging into the leads from the document, and the conclusion i draw is that we have had not only an active moonbase since '62 but also a marshalling/staging yard at the real L1( not the spot NASA claims it to be) since then also; just more smoke for the dog and pony show. 8)
