Anti-vaccine doctor Jeff Bradstreet was found dead in an apparent suicide in North Carolina, officials said.

The Rutherford County Sherriff's Office said in a news release issued this week that Bradstreet died of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

He was found in a river in the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock on June 19 by a fisherman.

"The case is still under investigation," the news release said.

His family is raising funds online to investigate his death, the Associated Press reported.

Bradstreet ran a clinic in Buford, Georgia, and published autism research based on the claim that vaccines cause autism, the AP said.

The Gwinnett Daily Post in Georgia reported that U.S. Food and Drug Administration agents searched Bradstreet's clinic on Monday, citing multiple law enforcement officials. That report could not immediately be verified by NBC News.

Anti-vaccine Dr Jeff Bradstreet was found dead in an apparent suicide in North Carolina after agents from the US Food and Drug Administration searched his office for reasons unknown.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said in a news release issued this week that Bradstreet, 61, died of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Bradstreet's body was found in the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock on June 19 by a fisherman and rescue team divers responded to the scene and recovered a handgun from the river.

Bradstreet ran the Bradstreet Wellness Center clinic in Buford, Georgia, and published autism research based on the disputed claim vaccines cause autism.

The medical community says such claims have been disproved.

The clinic was raided by agents from the FDA who were receiving assistance from the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency, the Gwinnet Daily Post reported.

Bradstreet is from Braselton, Georgia.

His body was sent to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for an autopsy on June 23 and the case is still under investigation by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

His family is raising funds online to investigate his death as some do not believe it was a suicide.

The investigator from the sheriff's office, Jamie Keever, said: 'I've talked to some of those people today.

'I don't know what to say. They have a right to their opinion.'

A GoFundMe page raising money to 'find the answers to the many questions leading up to the death of Dr Bradstreet, including an exhaustive investigation into the possibility of foul play' has already raised more than $15,000.

Fiona O'Leary of Autistic Rights Together [ART], responded to Bradstreet's death and the call for an investigation into his death.

She said: 'While it is very sad to hear of the death of Dr Bradstreet in such tragic circumstances, it is important to consider his position as one of the world's leading practitioners in the field of bio-medical treatments for autism.

'Many of these so called 'treatments' are unlicensed and unproven to be of any benefit to autistic people, indeed many can have serious and dangerous side effects on an individual's health and well being.

'Many supporters of Dr Bradstreet and the bio-medical industry are hailing him as a hero, claiming foul play at the hands of the government, yet the truth is more simple perhaps.

'None of the many so called treatments or cures could ever be substantiated and proven to be effective or beneficial outside of the bio-medicals own propaganda machine.'

Anti-vax doctor dead of apparent suicide; conspiracists fired up

by idoubtit • June 24, 2015 • 30 Comments

Dr. James Jeffrey Bradstreet, who goes by Jeff Bradstreet, an autism researcher who ran a clinic that endorsed pseudoscientific cures on autism patients and others, has died by apparent suicide on June 19. For several days over the weekend there was no word on cause of death. But some anti-vax autism sites were mourning his loss. Age of Autism called him "a stalwart leader in treating autism".

News appeared that his body had been found in a river. He was 60.

Deputies said the body was found by a fisherman. The body was removed from the river and was identified as James Jeffrey Bradstreet of Braselton, Georgia. Bradstreet had a gunshot wound to the chest, which appeared to be self inflicted, according to deputies.

Bradstreet was a proponent of the mercury toxicity of vaccines – a position that is unsupported and soundly disregarded. His arguments on this count were demolished by the Vaccine Court.

Within hours of news of his death, the conspiracy theories started: "Prominent anti-vaxxer, and a close family friend, dead of apparent self-inflicted gunshot to chest (chest, my ass)"

From HealthNut:

Some doctors are reading this tonight and writing me that they find the story suspicious and are concerned. I too am concerned, as my other half is a prominent controversial doctor as well, and not sure what to think. I suspect we'll know more as the investigation continues.

Here's a statement on Facebook apparently from the family.

But this request to refrain from gossip hasn't stopped people from going off on it. There is speculation not only that Bradstreet was murdered but that another alternative practitioners death over the weekend suggests that there is some plot. There is ZERO evidence for this and the paranoia reflects the mentality of the anti-vax crowd who think they are right but everyone is out to get them. Of course the family doesn't help by saying he gave his life for Autism. How so?

Dozens of studies have shown that the MMR vaccine is not related to autism. The crew of denialists who continue to think it does have been called the "mercury militia". The vaccine question is no longer a rational debate. Those who continued to pursue it are irrational in that no amount of evidence seems to change their position.

It's a good bet that this news will spiral and descend even further into crazyland. And it's also a sure bet that by posting this, we will receive comments from supporters of Bradstreet that will either say "don't speak ill of the dead" or that we are deluded and foolish for supporting modern science-based medicine. To both sentiments I say the evidence speaks for itself. Bradstreet promoted ideas that had no basis in science. What he faced before his death, we may not ever know.

Great appreciation to Tim Farley for supplying this tip and considerable information for this post.

Editor's note: This post was linked to on facebook (unclear where) so I have been receiving many comments telling me how awful I am, as expected, because of my pro-science stance. I declined an interview with The Autism Channel because I don't feel comfortable telling people who live with autism about conspiratorial ideas. The interesting aspect to me was the conspiracy angle that is held by anti-vax proponents (which, I HOPE, is a small subset of society and those with autistic children in their lives). Experts in conspiracies, vaccinations, and autism should be the ones interviewed.

UPDATE: A federal raid: Controversial autism researcher, Jeff Bradstreet, commits suicide after FDA raid in Buford, authorities say. U.S. Food and Drug Administration has yet to reveal why agents searched the office of the doctor.

Famous Autism researcher and Doctor, Jeff Bradstreet MD ...

www.healthnutnews.com/famous-florida-autism-researcher-and-doctor-j...

4 days ago - The first is the accomplished, well known and much loved Dr Jeff Bradstreet MD, who formerly lived here on the East Coast of Florida.

Update: The Bradstreet family has said on Facebook (their pages, mine and others)  that they are "going to get to the bottom of this"  They also have started a GoFundMe page to do a thorough investigation to see if there was foul play and get the full story.  They have asked that people not speculate at this time, but we hope they do find out the "truth" as they said they are seeking to find,  and deserve at least that.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, patients and all his many followers. I'd heard about the raid on his office in Buford, GA  that happened just before his death, but did not write about this previously. Now that Epoch Times   posted a tastefully written piece by an Epidemiologist from AutismInvestigated.com, I feel I can share that information.  There are speculations why the office was raided, but I'm not going to comment on it. I just know that Dr. Bradstreet helped many children who were his patients,  and was loved by countless people as evidenced on his memorial page on Facebook. He leaves behind a beautiful wife and family.

This is sad news.  Very suspicious I would add.

There is such a campaign going on to smear anyone that apposes vaccines.  Measle / mump outbreaks all because people refuse to get their children immunized.

Vaccinations, per se I am not against.  In fact in researching the subject there has been some wonderful discoveries and many lives saved because of vaccines.

Rabies vaccine for example saved many human lives and prevented many deaths of animals.  (However the way it was first proven was shady)

Virtually every infection with rabies resulted in death until two French scientists, Louis Pasteur and Émile Roux, developed the first rabies vaccination in 1885. This vaccine was first used on a human on July 6, 1885, on nine-year-old Joseph Meister (1876–1940), who had been mauled by a rabid dog.

Other vaccines have saved many lives, both human and animal.  However the debate is whether thimerosal is linked to Autism, and possible other diseases.

This is no different than any other drug.  I watch a commercial for a drug and its supposed health benefits, and then it goes on for the majority of the commercial talking about all of the side affects.  Hmmmmmm do I want increased chance of stroke/heart attack or rectal bleeding????

This is very intersting.  Co-incidence that autism cases started shortly after the creation of ethyl-mercury??

Now this is a study from Japan that shows autism rate still going higher after the vaccine MMR was not given any more .

This is the Best Explanation of the Vaccine/Autism Connection I've Ever Heard!

Published on Jan 19, 2015

Dr. Stephanie Seneff discusses the potential connection between vaccines and autism. It's a hotly-debated topic. Here she gets specific into what ingredient in the vaccine may be linked to autism and other conditions. Find out what her research has found. You may think differently after watching this!
