California Lake Runs Dry Overnight, Killing Thousands Of Fish

FOLSOM LAKE (CBS13) — A Northern California reservoir ran dry overnight, killing thousands of fish and leaving residents looking for answers.
While a $3.5 million drought safety net at Folsom Lake finishes, a lake in another part of the state is left high and dry.
Thousands of fish lay dead in what used to be Mountain Meadows reservoir also known as Walker Lake, a popular fishing hole just west of Susanville.

I wonder if anyone with a well nearby noticed a rise in the ground water level?

Confusing how they blend the two lakes. So Walker lake near Susanville is the one that went dry "overnight". Not Folsom Lake is what I am getting.

Walker Lake, a 5,800-acre reservoir in northern California, drained early this month
Thousands of bass, perch and catfish died when water disappeared a day after residents had been fishing on the lake, and now leave a foul smell
Pacific Gas and Electric Company has water rights to the reservoir and stopped using it in March, but said it did not open dam to drain it
Residents expect the lake to refill with rain, though complain that the fish could have been saved if action was taken sooner

Looks like PGE owns those water rights, they probably decided
to just let the fish die, rather than relocate them.

"This makes me feel like they didn't want to do a fish rescue and that it was easier to open that sucker up Saturday night," Bauer said.

Shame really. If a person did this on their own property with the new
regs from EPA "Waters of The United States" they would be fined
in a severe manner.

Water is going to become a huge issue if rainful
is significantly below normal in California this winter.
