Not as stupid as using a wrist band as a way of identifying people. 

In this case it may be the bottom photo is reversed so the wrist band is actually on the same wrist...  now ask me why I think that

I disagree, those very things are unique to individuals. Mannerisms along with facial expressions and the way people express grief or surprise are all very unique and identifiable.

The way people react is a way of identifying people, if we see them react, in a photo we see only a short time "slice" of that reaction, and one thing we use a lot to help identify each other is the way we move our head and our arms, for example, something that is not visible on a photo.

Also, when laughing or crying we are sending a "message" to people around, so, like all other natural "messages" (like the raising of the upper lip to show the teeth) it makes the intentions clearer but reduces the specific look of the person.

There was a TED talk about psychopaths and how to identify them I found interesting. It pointed how they will suddenly shift facial expressions inappropriately - giving away their inner lack of whatever sensitive emotion they are trying to portray. The talk showed video of a mom who killed her kids as a demonstration of this.

I then considered videos of various Sandy Hook people and how bizarre their behavior seemed to be. Intuitive I know, but this sort of faculty is used to judge crossing the street or choosing a career or a marriage mate, etc. You can't escape it.
