When you are messing with the forces of the universe that have the potential to cause serious side effects to the planet... they most assuredly have a responsibility to the public
They have, but not the responsibility to educate them, nobody has, only people that want to be educated can be educated, you cannot force it.

Problem is they only say "April Fool's" a few days later  by then the story has already gone viral and few people check the dates on an article a few weeks after April 1  I myself sometimes miss an old date on an article that is rehashed as "new"
They usually say it on April 2.

QuoteIf NASA makes an April Fools' report claiming the Sun will explode next week... is that not the same as screaming FIRE in a crowded theater?
Yes, but that's not what CERN did.

QuoteAnd You can bet ATS would ban them for it as HOAXTERS :P
See my previous post.

QuoteRemember when I posted that April Fool's flying saucer by Richard Branson?  I got my thread deleted and called a hoaxter for that and banned
Only post banned, not really banned.

Then when people asked WHY it was deleted that too was deleted and the person who made the "Why" thread was also bannen.
The person that made that thread (at least the one I saw) was banned two years latter, for an unrelated reason, nobody was banned for asking.

I am actually surprised at some of the things you say in this thread. I thought you held authoritative groups and people to a more professional level of responsibility. I have seen this in your responses in the past.

Personally I can see releasing true information you must release but don't wasn't known, on April 1st would be a great way to bury the dirt.

First, I don't know what you mean by "authoritative groups", it's the first time I see that expression. Second, I don't understand what's the connection with "professionalism". ???

Third, I don't understand the first part of the above sentence. ???

Should it be "in April"? Sometimes I get them mixed.

Yes "in April" is better :P unless April is a person  then it would be weird :P

But yeah  I forgot that one LOL

As for professionalism... an agency like Cern or NASA should not be doing April Fools posts using material that is already causing fear and distrust in the public sector. Everyone knows that most people don't always read the dates and will take is seriously.  Just causes more fear and distrust.

It is hard enough these days to sort the truth from the BS... they do no one a service by adding to it deliberately

In situations like this there are three main types of people: the ones that ignore CERN's or NASA's work, those that, in doubt, fear it, and those that are interested in it from a technical point of view. I doubt the people that work at CERN or NASA are even aware of what those that fear their work think, as they move in different circles, each one distrusting the other.
