Beware of the Bull .

One mans unfortunate incident with one ...being tossed around and mauled by one.

I don't recall seeing anything quite like this before.

That's relatively common, when people are not careful in these situations.

I don't know if the man survived (it looks to me like the worst part was when he hit the ground near the end, that may be enough to kill a person), but if the bull's horns weren't covered with those protections he would have killed him easily.

Bulls are supposed to be like this, they do not need much provocation (if any) to attack anyone or any thing.

PS: this video looks like it was shot in Portugal, in the Azores, the look of the place and the fact that the bull has a rope attached to the neck makes me think that was the case.

FINALLY!
That clears up the heritage of all the bulls seen in America's West with ropes attached to their necks.

Spain & maybe Portugal being known for bull fights...

Then the USA well known for trying to ride bulls..

Is that to suggest that you have seen similar things happen as extreme before !

I have seen some Bull fights / Bull rides with people being chased and maybe hit sometimes... but I don't think that I have ever seen anyone tossed / mauled quite like as shown on the video even on film / TV before.

Portugal has a specific type of bullfight, different from the Spanish type.

In the Portuguese style we don't have "picadores" (horsemen mounted on horses wearing shields to protect them from the bull's horns that stab the back of the bull's neck with lances to weaken the bull) and we don't kill the bull in the arena at the end of the fight. We have bullfighting on horse-back, during which the rider tries to stab three or four small barbed javelins in the back of the bull's neck and after we have the "forcados", a group of men that tries, literally, to grab the bull by the horns.

The Portuguese style is easily adapted into a bloodless version, and that's what they use in California, in an area with many Portuguese families. In that version, instead of the barbed javelins, the javelins have a Velcro tip and the bull has a Velcro patch on the back of the neck, so the effect is the same without any injuring for the bull.

Although the bull is usually killed after the fight by a professional butcher, sometimes, if the bull gave a good fight, it is "pardoned" and sent back to the pasture, where he lives the rest of its natural life.

Yes, it's relatively common, specially in that Azores version, in which people without any training try to play with the bull.

Here are two videos showing the two parts of a Portuguese style bullfight.
First, on horseback.

The "forcados".
