The Shelter Buddies Reading Program Helps Shy Dogs (And Kids) To Build Confidence

This past holiday season,  The Humane Society of Missouri's Club HOPE organized their first annual Deck the Howls reading event. It was so incredibly successful for the children AND the dogs that the Shelter Buddies Reading Program became a regular event open to all Kind Kids ages 6 – 15!

Sharing stories with these awesome pups does more than just improve kids' reading ability. It also gives the shelter dogs an important opportunity to engage in social situations, which ultimately helps them become (even) better candidates for adoption. As HSM President Kathy Warnick noted, dogs who are shy "learn to relax around new people," while more energetic dogs "learn that calm behavior is desirable." And, who knows, maybe the pups learn a new word or two.

I can try to help you sound out a big word, but regrettably I cannot turn any pages.

And let's not forget to mention the awesome kids that participate in the book buddy program!  8)

Mutual Rescue

This one hit pretty hard, because I was laying down with the sheppard one day just like that picture, when her back legs had ceased to work a few months previous and was dragging herself around with her front paws, and while laying there she let out this quiet very low, very long moan to let me know she was feeling about the end of her rope.

I asked if she was doing ok, and she replied with big sloppy kisses and laid her head back down.

Next day she wasn't doing much better so I had to put her down.

 :)Wonderful stories.

I wish people would see animals as they are, intelligent and kind, loving and loyal.

Having always been partial to German Shepherd's, I noticed that a gorgeous one is up for adoption from RESCUE FROM THE HART.

Meet Juno -

...who displays the classic Shepherd trait of loving to play -

Please share with anyone you think might be able to provide a forever home for her, she is currently in Van Nuys, CA.

I guarantee it will be the greatest move they ever make.

Another wonderful trait about German Shepherd's is they love and protect children, and will put up with even having their ears and tails pulled and just tolerate it.

Juno listed earlier is said to get along well with cats and dogs of any size, in fact a companion in her case would be preferable.

I can tell just by the way she runs around and plays she is a real sweetie.

Let's hope the word spreads and she soon is able to bless someone's home and life.

I am reminded that this thread and the kitty thread share a lot with the 'kindness counts' thread.

That says a lot about some members.

Thank you.

Well obtuse humor such as you and I practice is often subject to misinterpretation, and requires a 2nd look.   ;)

We get used to it.

indeed, is there someway we can hack her account, unblock my comments , so we can mettle it smooth.

I have no idea at what I've done , only in regards to banter with ArMaP a.I , but asides that, without a clue

maybe she has an account on ats , and ive really pissed her off there ...? :D
