SORRY....

In ref to the message that I wrote below...

I just attempted what was seeming like a forced "Give your Mobile number " to access ones yahoo account...

Even thou it refers to giving ones mobile number for security..

When you go thru the process... it is also asking you to change your password..

Upon doing / trying this..... It then gives the two options again ...so you can still use the alternative older system to log into ones account...

BIG RELIEF !!!

but It may well soon bring in having to give the Mobile number in the near future...

but I hope not !

                     ====================

Yahoo Email Issue.

Over the last few months, anyone who uses Yahoo email I am sure was aware that Yahoo have been trying to get its users to give a or their Mobile Phone number in order to be able to log in and access their email account if they want to read their emails.

But they also have allowed another option to log in without giving a Mobile Number...

This was a small message link at the bottom of the log in section that allowed users to click on to take them thru the older original process...

Earlier today , as I was trying to log in using that link, there was a message telling me this was the final time I could log in with the old method..

I later logged into another yahoo email account and had the same thing happen.  But on Both occasions I was able to log in to read the emails.

I have just tried to log in again to my earlier Yahoo email  account that gave me a final warning... and now It does only offer the one option, which is to give the mobile number..

This has annoyed me severely..and I suspect many other users..

I don't see any reason why they require such information..

and after having used those accounts for years , one can no longer access their email messages or contacts unless they agree to it..

I just thought that I would let anyone know about it , who uses yahoo .

I am sure many users will not want to give their main Mobile numbers...

and I am suspecting that once you do give the Mobile Number that you will later have to click on a text link that yahoo will send out to those who log in to then confirm that its a genuine used mobile Number..

I suspect that if you use a fake number it may mess up ever again being able to access ones email account....

Yahoo made some changes a few years ago...and I am no longer able to access those accounts...as I did not follow a process at the time..They then have stopped users accessing their email messages..

Anyone now who does not want to give their existing mobile number will have to obtain another mobile just to allow them to log in...

I will say that if anyone has several devices and are logged in already to what ever yahoo email...

Then I suggest that you dont use those devices to log out or to try to log into another yahoo account with that device or computer.

If you have say two yahoo accounts and two computers, where each computer is already logged in each yahoo account.... as long as you uses each computer to read those logged in yahoo email accounts... you should still be ok to read your messages..

its only if you log out that you wont be able to relog back in.

I have one device that is still logged in on one of my accounts..

Unless anyone else has any ideas !

What would happen if you signed up to another provider like outlook where it allows you to have mail from another account? This should effectively bypass that verification system.

Some years ago I tried to register at Yahoo to have access to an Yahoo group, and was confronted with something like that, as a mobile phone number was required in the register process.

I wrote to the support team and after several messages they confirmed that I could only register with a mobile phone number. The problem is that I don't have a mobile phone, so I could not register. A few days latter I found that I still had some old account that was somehow connected to Yahoo, and was able to register on the Yahoo group.

As I haven't logged-in in a long time I have no idea if I can still do it or if I have to give them a phone number.

I'll check.

That may well work ok E 113..

I used to use Outlook some years ago, but ended up with a problem with it, and never restarted to use it again...

But I have now found out that I was able to just change my password and still was able to log in the old way as I have now commented in an amendment to my initial comment ...and a follow up email..

Apologies for acting to early before being certain what would happen when I later did attempt to see what would happen when I clicked on the only option that it later gave me...which I thought was going to be a forced give me a mobile number to access into it.....fortunately it offered to allow me to change my password and then on doing so .. it then referred back to the two alternative log in options !

That's good to read that you had no problems logging in the old way ArMaP.   Did it not even mention you had one final time ?

It maybe that you rarely use your yahoo account.. and they may give you several times before they give you the same message that I was given today...

or it may happen if say you tried a few more times....

I do recall that I did get some warning messages some time (8 weeks or so )ago from yahoo that did suggest that I changed my password..

Its hard to say how the system operates with its clients/ users and
it may depend upon how many times one has been logging in over the year or last few months..

I assume that you did not see / notice any message at all ArMaP that had suggested that it was a last time to access your account ?

If not , what I said in the prior reply.. may apply to you...ie it may give each individual so many times before it only shows one option to be able to attempt to log in, where it  then also asks for you to change your password..

This was the FINAL message that I was given ...which fortunately I was able to only have to change my password...

QuoteMake sure your account is secure!
To secure your account, change your password and update your mobile number.

Yes, secure my account

I will point out that this has happened to two of my yahoo email accounts and not just one...BUT I have been using both on a regular basis...

It maybe that if some users have not used their accounts for some time... you may not get the warning at this time...

The Seeker

Yahoo got hacked and had a massive security breach; the reason they want a mobile number is for when they lock your account or you can't remember your password, they can send a temp password to get you back in your account to your phone as a text message...

I think I recall something about them having had some issues with some accounts Seeker, but I was not sure on what scale..

It used to be with yahoo that they only asked for another email address as security..which I did not mind giving...especially if it was another yahoo one..

BUT if they were hacked on a large scale then that maybe now why they ask for an alternative to using another email as security..
especially it would be a concern if users had been giving another yahoo email address as security...

but we could maybe use another email address that is non yahoo..

They may however now be concerned that other email type accounts could as well become hacked..

But I did not really want to give them a mobile number...

I don't know for sure ..if they may pass such info onto others...who purchase Mobile Number lists...

I say this as I know many websites claim not to give away your email details... BUT they DO !!!..

as I know there are numerous businesses that sell them on a large scale..and the only way some could have got them is from other websites or online options where we have to sign up via our email..

so it will be the same with mobile numbers..

No, but I had message telling me that someone in the US had tried to enter my account, so I changed my password.

Sure, it's a good reason, the problem is that people must have a mobile number, and not everyone has, so they are basically ignoring all the people that do not have a mobile phone.

I assume that you got that message from an email, and I think that I also was sent a similar message some weeks ago...but as it had not been suggested that my account had been hacked...at the time I did not change my password.

But the message that I got telling me I had one last time to log in before I had to change my password for my email address.. and add in a mobile number was a message shown on the yahoo web page where I normally  log in to my email account...

If you were not familiar with the prior like messages that they had been showing on that log in page... you either have not as yet been sent such messages or you may not have noticed them... I say that as they are near the bottom of the log in page and not obvious to see...The writing that refers to it does not easily stand out and is in small letters..

That's another reason...Everyone these days does think we all should have mobile phones or use them..

But I suspect many older people do not.. and one reason is it can be hard for an older person to use them and see or read any texts...

I do not really like using them...I find them too much of a pain trying to text  and scrolling with them , compared to using a laptop keyboard.  But I do know some people are very good at using them and prefer them...and probably use them now more than they do computers / laptops.

But they have their uses, & are good to be able to carry and use in emergency or to be able to use when needed... and are not doubt amazing technology, especially the more modern I Phone type..

I never used their email. :)

Just Looking

Sorry for slight drift but in regard to giving your phone numbers out, the other day I had an e-mail from a coffee shop
that I use a lot. It has a rewards card thing so I joined for the free coffee every so often. ( Yes I know that its not really
free as they factor that cost into the up front cost ). In that e-mail they sent a "rate us" questionnaire but then the only
way I could enter was by giving them my phone numbers. They said they needed either my land line or mobile to enter.
I sent them an e-mail explaining that the had NO NEED for these numbers so I told them to stuff their rating thing. For
many years I worked under a very strict "need to know" regime so old habits die hard. ;D
