OPERATION DEFENSIVE EDGE DAY 1: IDF Targets 50 Gaza Terror Sites in First Night of Campaign to End Rocket Fire (LIVE UPDATES) | The 5 Towns Jewish Times (http://5tjt.com/operation-defensive-edge-day-1-idf-targets-50-gaza-terror-sites-in-first-night-of-campaign-to-end-rocket-fire-live-updates/)
PREAMBLE: 6:52 am: Early in the morning Israel launched Operation Defensive Edge aimed at stopping "the constant terror activity that Hamas is aiming at Israeli civilians." The major Gaza initiative comes in response to a significant increase in rocket attacks against Israeli targets over the past weeks.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, more than 30 rockets were fired in a major escalation on Monday evening which struck major cities Ashdod and Ashkelon. Four rockets were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system and 16 landed in open areas near Beersheba. According to Israeli media reports, more that 70 projectiles were fired at Israel.
"Since the beginning of the year, #Gaza terrorists have fired more then 450 rockets at#Israeli civilians #ItMustStop," the IDF tweeted.
7:25 am – Overnight Israeli planes targeted 50 terror related targets in Gaza in the first salvo of the operation.
The IDF said in a statement:
In combined efforts of both aerial and naval forces, the IDF targeted overnight approximately 50 terror sites and targets across the Gaza Strip, commencing operation 'Protective Edge' – aimed to retrieve stability to the residents of southern Israel, eliminate Hamas' capabilities and destroy terror infrastructure operating against the State of Israel and its civilians.
Among the targets are 4 activity sites utilized by Hamas operatives who are responsible for numerous rocket attacks and were involved in various terror activities against the State of Israel.
The activity sites that were targeted were utilized by the following operatives:
Ei'ad Sakik, a Hamas terrorists in Gaza, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel.
Abdullah Hshash, a Hamas terrorist in Rafah, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel during the past few weeks and in the past as well.
Samer Abu Daka, a Hamas terrorist in Khan Yunis, involved in terrorist activity against the State of Israel.
Hassan Abdullah, a Hamas terrorist in Khan Yunis, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel during the past few weeks.
The IDF targeted dozens of terror sites across the Gaza Strip, including concealed rocket launchers, launching infrastructures, a weapon storage facility, training bases, terror tunnels' shafts and further targets.
Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, IDF Spokesman: "In the past weeks, residents of southern Israel were forced into an unbearable reality – a situation they haven't encountered in these scales since November 2012.
In light of these circumstances, the IDF commenced operation 'Protective Edge'. We are determined to lay a significant blow on Hamas' terror capabilities and infrastructure, eliminate any threat on Israeli sovereignty emanating from the Gaza Strip and restore stability to the southern region.
Terrorists perpetrating the aggression against Israel have a personal price to pay and will bear the consequences of their actions."

Gigas, Hamas knows that when they mess with Israel, they will have Hell to pay, and as these photos show, they are paying heavily!
We do all need to have the same regard, for our response(s) when terrorists choose to attack, however they choose to attack. In my opinion, when one life is taken by terrorists, the recompense in terrorist lives should be only limited by their willingness to concede, to the very last one if necessary!
Wars should be fought to win, not just to trade shots and lives!

If you owned land from the beginning of biblical time and another tribe came in and took what they wanted and pushed you off your land, what would your feelings be. Welcome the thieves with open arms or resist the take over.
Than that bunch who took your land now expands further into your land and pushes you farther off your land with constant skirmishes and made up victimization of their phony reason to exist and take what they say is theirs.
Would you stand by and allow this to happen.
Seems we just had another similar event right here where the government tried to take land and push people off and 1 of those people resisted and for that, a weaponized response was immediately formed on one side which triggered an equal response from the other side.
Palastine is under occupation and their land is being stolen from them. So if this were you, would you stand by and watch it all with a smile on your face.
Who is to say who these hamas fictions are and who actually pays them since some of us know how the world actually works.
Hi Gigas. I am not going to debate your points, as history is what it is, and open to individual understanding and perceptions. But, I will address this:
"If you owned land from the beginning of biblical time and another tribe came in and took what they wanted and pushed you off your land, what would your feelings be. Welcome the thieves with open arms or resist the take over."
Assuming you are trying to make reference to Israel and Palestine, that just doesn't work. Look it up. There never in history has been a nation, country, or state called "Palestine" - that is according to most all replies to the question on the subject. But now terminology doesn't make any difference, and any lasting determinations will only be decided by war of the opposing sides, which is ongoing right now. I certainly hope it is allowed to continue, until, "it is finished"! :)
Yes, israel is a military occupation force in Palestine performing genocide.
But, that don't matter I guess.
My thoughts, until the British cut that part of the world up into countries, there were no real boarders. Since there are boarders they fight over them. So now it is my land, no my land, bang, MY land. Everyone wants to be let alone but not where they are. They want to be left alone on the other guys property. This is never gonna end pretty. Eventually they will fight to the death. With the weapons they have today it won't even last 6 days this time.

Are these areas still under British control, some people would
say just the opposite.
Not trying to cause a stir, but what is the truth the of matter?
ETA: From whom did the British gain these areas way back
then, pre 1948?
ETA: The British gained Israel through the Crusades?
Ironic ....
Quote
The history of Israel encompasses the history of the modern State of Israel, as well as that of the Jews in the Land of Israel. The area of modern Israel is small, about the size of Wales or half the size of Costa Rica, and is located roughly on the site of the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah except that these ancient kingdoms also included what is now the West Bank. It is the birthplace of the Hebrew language spoken in Israel, and of Judaism and Christianity. It contains sites sacred to Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Druze and Bahá'í Faith.
Although coming under the sway of various empires and home to a variety of ethnicities, the area of ancient Israel was predominantly Jewish until the Jewish–Roman wars after which Jews became a minority in most regions, except Galilee. The area became increasingly Christian after the 3rd century and then largely Muslim from the 7th century conquest until well past the middle of the 20th century. It was a focal point of conflict between Christianity and Islam between 1096 and 1291, and from the end of the Crusades until the British conquest in 1917 was part of the Syrian province of first the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt and then (from 1517) the Ottoman Empire.
So....the area once belonged to the Jewish people, until the Romans,
then the British.
And, some people say there that All Roads lead To Rome!

Greetings:
Being in 'the business', we find the following to be of interest.
Directly as a result of the threat of incoming Hamas rockets launched minutes before from Gaza, many - if not all - live concert events have been or may be necessarily postponed or outright cancelled for the safety of the artists and concert-goers.
One such cancellation is Neil Young (http://www.neilyoung.com/) and his band Crazy Horse, who were scheduled to perform at Tel Aviv's riverside Yarkon Park (http://goisrael.com/Tourism_Eng/Articles/Sites/Pages/The%20Yarkon%20Park.aspx) on 17 July 2014.(http://www.thelivingmoon.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10005/Yarkon_Park_Dudu_Azoulay_AFP_Getty_Images.jpg)
The Yarkon Park is a large urban park (3.8 km²) in Tel Aviv, Israel, host to 16 million visitors annually. bounded by Rokach Boulevard on the north and Bavli on the south, the park includes extensive lawns, sports facilities, botanical gardens, an aviary, a water park, two outdoor concert venues and artificial lakes.
A week before the show, Roger Waters was so upset that Young was performing in "a colonial apartheid regime, largely settled from Europe, that seeks to confine the native people of the land, either in exile or in second class status in reservations and ghettos..." that he penned a poignant missive (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/roger-waters-neil-young-israel/) to Neil that had nothing to do with his concern for Young's safety in a hot war zone.
Rather, he was imploring Young to reconsider his decision to lend his tacit support to the Israeli political regime.
The text, which Waters posted on Facebook, follows:Dear Neil Young,
There are rumors flying about that you are considering doing shows in Tel Aviv this year.
The picket lines have been crossed in this last year by one or two lightweights from our community but no one of your stature. Woody Guthrie would turn in his grave. Neil Young! You are one of my biggest heroes, you are one of a very short list, you, John Lennon, Woody Guthrie, Huddy Ledbetter, Harry Belafonte, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday and, like some others, but not many, your songs have always been redolent of love and humanity and compassion for your fellow man and woman. I find it hard to believe that you would turn your back on the indigenous people of Palestine. That you would lend support to, and encourage and legitimize, with your presence, a colonial apartheid regime, largely settled from Europe, that seeks to confine the native people of the land, either in exile or in second class status in reservations and ghettos.
Please, brother, tell me it ain't so.
As I recall, back in the day, along with the rest of us (Stevie van Zandt, Bruce, Led Zep etc etc etc etc) you would not "Play In Sun City" I am asking you to stand on the same moral ground now. The late, great, Nelson Mandela lives on in us, we cannot let him down. He was explicit in his position and I quote, " We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians". It is time for "Rock Against Racism" to show some of it's muscle by refusing to lend our names to the whitewashing of the illegal colonization of Palestinian land and the systematic oppression of its indigenous people.
Unfortunately the opposition lobby has a lot of muscle too. They spend millions on their "Hasbara"(If like me you have no Hebrew)"Explaining" or to you and me "Propaganda". The propaganda machine is well oiled and ruthless. We, on the other hand, have only our commitment to non-violent resistance to lie down in front of the IDF caterpillar tractors that would raze the native people from the land of Palestine. We stand with those people, and with all the brave people of Israel and Palestine, Jewish and Arab alike who oppose The Israeli Governments brutal policies.
We stand with Rachel Corrie, the young American woman who gave her life under the caterpillar's tracks. Please join me and countless other artists all over the world in solidarity with the oppressed and the disenfranchised. It is time to heed the peoples call. People like The Bedouin, the nomadic people of the Negev in the arid south of Israel, please research their plight, one village, Al-Araqib has been destroyed 63 times by IDF Bulldozers. If you are in doubt about any of this, I will go with you to Palestine, and Israel, if they'll let me in, you will see what I have seen, and then let us figure out the right thing to do.
By the way I watched your Bridge School concert on YouTube last year, it was very moving, you were, of course magnificent. You had asked me to perform, and as I explained to your management, I would have gladly done so had I not already been committed to The Wall Tour in Europe and Stand Up For Heroes in New York. This year I will be pleased and proud to come and support you if you call.
With respect, and love.
Roger Waters.

Smoke rises from buildings following what witnesses said was an Israeli air strike, as Palestinians search for victims under the rubble of a house which police said was destroyed in another Israeli air strike in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip July 11, 2014 (Reuters / Ibraheem Abu Mustafa)Israel's assault on Gaza is 'collective punishment of the Palestinian people' — RT Op-Edge (http://rt.com/op-edge/172044-israel-punishment-of-palestinians/)
July 11, 2014The Israeli establishment cynically uses murderous assault in order to pursue the pre-existing agenda, which is an imperialist agenda aimed at undermining Hamas, former Irish Socialist Party MEP Paul Murphy told RT.
RT: Israel pushes on with its Gaza offensive, despite civilians being killed. Are civilian casualties inevitable?Paul Murphy: I think they are inevitable when you have a murderous assault being pursued by the Israeli establishment. You have a completely cynical use of the tragic death of the three Israeli teenagers in order to pursue the pre-existing agenda, which is an imperialist agenda, which is about undermining Hamas, and which points towards a new ground invasion.
So it's not the matter of the Israeli establishment crying crocodile tears and saying "Oh well, some civilians deaths are inevitable", they are certainly inevitable whenever you have an open-air prison camp like Gaza and when you subject it to hundreds of bombardments with the highest technological level weapons on a daily basis.
RT: Israel says Hamas is using civilians as human shields. How much of a responsibility for the civilian casualties does the organization have, in your opinion?PM: I think the responsibility for those killed by Israeli weapons lies with the Israeli government. It is inevitable when you have 1.6-1.7 million people crammed into a very small space, when they are supposedly pursuing so-called legitimate targets that they are going to kill Palestinians civilians.
Let's not pretend that it isn't the aim or that it's something extraneous that is happening. The policy here is of collective punishment of the Palestinian people and of the people of Gaza in particular. That's the policy that repeatedly has been pursued by the Israeli establishment, and let's remember the invasion in 2009, the invasion in 2012, let's remember the massive numbers of civilian deaths.
But let's also remember that the aims that are portrayed to the Israeli population of achieving security for the Israeli population, they were not achieved by those wars and they are not going to be achieved now. It is a cynical use of the deaths of the Israeli teenagers.
RT: At least 18 children were killed by Israeli air strikes in Gaza this week. Do you think the issue is getting enough international attention?PM: No, absolutely not. It is quite striking. It is even worse than the previous occasions in the Western media how that has been portrayed. You have an approach of balance and equivalence, or even in some cases like at the BBC who have talked a bit about Israel retaliating against rockets coming from Gaza.
The whole thing is entirely distorted; it is of course distorted by the establishment in Europe, the likes Catherine Ashton, the likes of Obama who insists on justifying the right to defense by the Israeli establishment against the rockets.
The aggressor here is very clear here. What we need across Europe, around the world is massive protests to say that people are completely opposed to this Israeli offensive and solidarity with those significant Palestinian protests that are happening in Israel but also joint Palestinian-Jewish protests happening at the moment.
RT: The UN is sounding the alarm, saying the region can't afford a full-blown war. How much influence does the international community have? What can it do to help to stop the violence?PM: I think right now the best international solidarity that can be shown is by significant protests, by protests also aimed at our own leaders, the leaders of the European establishment, the US establishment, calling for an end of the support for the Israeli assault, calling for a suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. But I certainly think that people going to Gaza or attempting to go to Gaza highlights that this blockade is continuing at the moment, it is also very important.

Anonymous - Message to Israel and Palestine - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b486eKyirRg)
Anonymous Official via Google+
7 July 2014 Greetings to the state of Israel, we are anonymous.
Ever since the encounter that has angered all of Israel, which concerns the 3 missing Israeli teens, who were found deceased in Hebron, within Palestinian territories, has made the Prime Minster of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, take a pledge, and an oath, to bring about vengeance, that Satan himself, has not yet created.
Such message, has made the citizens of Israel, wage war, and to rid Palestine, once, and for all.
Israel..
For over a decade, your violation of international law, and your crimes against humanity, have not, gone unnoticed. The oppression you place upon Palestinian territories have angered not only the anonymous collective, but all of mankind.
The disgusting authority you bring to the people that came to accept you, but now despise you, because of your ruthless manner, and your violent ways, have made our legion, interfere, countless, times..
The Israeli Defense Force, and their barbaric and inhumane actions, in where they bombed, raided, and disrupted Gaza, and many other Palestinian locations to their very core, are only begging for more blood.
The citizens of Palestine, specifically the West Bank of Gaza, call this event, one of the biggest Israeli attacks to date.
And ultimately, Palestine, has reached their point of screaming justice to the face of evil.
Instead of organizing an investigation that would lead to the perpetrators of this heinous act that lead to the death of the 3 Israeli teens, Israel, insisted an all out collective punishment attack against Palestine.
During this time, revenge attacks against Palestine grew rampant, once such case was a 17 year old Palestinian boy, Mohammed Abu Keir, was kidnapped by the citizens of Israel, according to autopsy reports, they forced him to consume gasoline, they then burned him alive. His cousin Tarek Abu Keir, suffered the same fate, yet lived, miraculously, he was beaten by the Israeli police and then prosecuted.
The media call it, a revenge attack.
We call it, genocide, ethnic cleansing.
Many events such as these have occurred countless times all over the so called occupied territories. The IDF has killed 9 Palestinians in search of the 3 missing Israelis. Over 250 Palestinians citizens were prosecuted under false charges, and scores of people injured over IDF raids and non-strategic bombing runs.
In short, over 600 innocent Palestinians have suffered the wrath of Israel.
The numbers continue to rise each hour.
Even as we speak, Netanyahu still has no credible evidence to prove that Hamas, or even if the Palestinian people, committed these crimes.
An anonymous council was immediately organized to combat this situation. And for over a week and a half, we came to a conclusion.
We've been fighting Israel and their terrorist state for over 4 years, and we have not grown weary or tired.
It has only made us stronger.
Therefore, we are calling upon the anonymous collective, and the elite hacker groups to join our crusade, and to wage cyber war against the state of Israel once more.
This Friday will be a day in where Israel will feel fear tingling in their servers, and homes.
It will be a day of solidarity and resistance.
Diplomacy has never functioned with Israel, and co-operation with the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, has only made its terroristic military advance further.
Palestine will be liberated, and Israel will suffer the same fate Palestine has been suffering for decades under their brutal and savaging regime.
No matter how dark it may seem, or how alone you may be, always remember that there are endless warriors that are operating tirelessly around the clock to stand with you, to aid you, to both fight and protect you in these unjustified acts.
We are anonymous.
We are legion.
We will never forgive.
We will never forget.
To Shimon, Netanyahu, and all Israeli governmental officials, you will not escape our chaos.
Expect us.

TRANSCRIPT:
Greetings citizens from around the world, we are anonymous.
Today, we claim victory against the fascist state of Israel.
A strong faction within anonymous has taken down over one thousand Israeli sites.
Attacks are still continuing, and are growing rampant by the day, and the cyber aggression against the Zionist state are stronger than ever before. We are calling upon the entire anonymous collective, and its hidden factions, to keep attacking Israel's cyberspace, and to always be cautious on the sites you attack, and the tools and equipment you use to leak or disrupt.
We need to show Gazans and Palestinians that they are not alone against this horrific evil.
To Israel: We will keep attacking you, and exposing your lies and crimes against humanity until you propose peace for once. Until then, anonymous and other groups will keep attacking your pathetic wall of a cyber-security. We will be forced to unleash our entire legion against your servers, thus banishing you from the internet.
Yet, we must stress, heavily, that this is not an attack on Jews, or the religion of Judaism, in fact, many Jews from around the world are siding themselves with Palestine, and not, Israel.
This is an all out attack against Zionists, and their corrupt ideology, and the systematic killing apparatus they use to suppress an under-developed location.

I agree with your ideals Thor but I have no way to be anon and even with ddos,I suspect there is a list forming .with gov having treaty with the snakes.there could be legal problems down the road.especially if there is escalation.we know there is no possibility of the underdog winning as much as we would hope for it.the best the good guys can do is attrition ie. North Vietnamese tactics.
On the home front I do put my money where my mouth is.one surveillance camera died last year and I currently have stalking charges against two police.
How many other members could say as much?
I do not doubt many of Us can say that there is evidence that can be construed as being deliberate interference. In fact the number who have had complaints is quite high, by My estimations.
I cannot help the feeling that Gaza/Israel is another divide and conquer tactic. The behavior on both sides often makes no sense to Me. Well... It's probably just Me.

All opinion displays in this thread are welcome, but absolutely nothing posted here changes the fact that hamas is well known by its many actions to be a terrorist group. Likewise they continue to to openly display that fact on one hand, while trying to accuse Israel of being at fault on the other.
If Israel were a terrorist nation, they would have simply and militarily "REMOVED" hamas sometime ago. No mater what people continue to say in supporting these terrorists, facts do not change by what publicists like to say.

Five Israeli Talking Points on Gaza—Debunked QuoteIsrael has killed almost 800 Palestinians in the past twenty-one days in the Gaza Strip alone; its onslaught continues. The UN estimates that more than 74 percent of those killed are civilians. That is to be expected in a population of 1.8 million where the number of Hamas members is approximately 15,000. Israel does not deny that it killed those Palestinians using modern aerial technology and precise weaponry courtesy of the world's only superpower. In fact, it does not even deny that they are civilians.
Israel's propaganda machine, however, insists that these Palestinians wanted to die ("culture of martyrdom"), staged their own death ("telegenically dead") or were the tragic victims of Hamas's use of civilian infrastructure for military purposes ("human shielding"). In all instances, the military power is blaming the victims for their own deaths, accusing them of devaluing life and attributing this disregard to cultural bankruptcy. In effect, Israel—along with uncritical mainstream media that unquestionably accept this discourse—dehumanizes Palestinians, deprives them even of their victimhood and legitimizes egregious human rights and legal violations.
This is not the first time. The gruesome images of decapitated children's bodies and stolen innocence on Gaza's shores are a dreadful repeat of Israel's assault on Gaza in November 2012 and winter 2008–09. Not only are the military tactics the same but so too are the public relations efforts and the faulty legal arguments that underpin the attacks. Mainstream media news anchors are inexplicably accepting these arguments as fact.
Below I address five of Israel's recurring talking points. I hope this proves useful to newsmakers.
1) Israel is exercising its right to self-defense.
As the occupying power of the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian Territories more broadly, Israel has an obligation and a duty to protect the civilians under its occupation. It governs by military and law enforcement authority to maintain order, protect itself and protect the civilian population under its occupation. It cannot simultaneously occupy the territory, thus usurping the self-governing powers that would otherwise belong to Palestinians, and declare war upon them. These contradictory policies (occupying a land and then declaring war on it) make the Palestinian population doubly vulnerable.
The precarious and unstable conditions in the Gaza Strip from which Palestinians suffer are Israel's responsibility. Israel argues that it can invoke the right to self-defense under international law as defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter. The International Court of Justice, however, rejected this faulty legal interpretation in its 2004 Advisory Opinion. The ICJ explained that an armed attack that would trigger Article 51 must be attributable to a sovereign state, but the armed attacks by Palestinians emerge from within Israel's jurisdictional control. Israel does have the right to defend itself against rocket attacks, but it must do so in accordance with occupation law and not other laws of war. Occupation law ensures greater protection for the civilian population. The other laws of war balance military advantage and civilian suffering. The statement that "no country would tolerate rocket fire from a neighboring country" is therefore both a diversion and baseless.
Israel denies Palestinians the right to govern and protect themselves, while simultaneously invoking the right to self-defense. This is a conundrum and a violation of international law, one that Israel deliberately created to evade accountability.
2) Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005.
Israel argues that its occupation of the Gaza Strip ended with the unilateral withdrawal of its settler population in 2005. It then declared the Gaza Strip to be "hostile territory" and declared war against its population. Neither the argument nor the statement is tenable. Despite removing 8,000 settlers and the military infrastructure that protected their illegal presence, Israel maintained effective control of the Gaza Strip and thus remains the occupying power as defined by Article 47 of the Hague Regulations. To date, Israel maintains control of the territory's air space, territorial waters, electromagnetic sphere, population registry and the movement of all goods and people.
Israel argues that the withdrawal from Gaza demonstrates that ending the occupation will not bring peace. Some have gone so far as to say that Palestinians squandered their opportunity to build heaven in order to build a terrorist haven instead. These arguments aim to obfuscate Israel's responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank. As Prime Minister Netanyahu once explained, Israel must ensure that it does not "get another Gaza in Judea and Samaria.... I think the Israeli people understand now what I always say: that there cannot be a situation, under any agreement, in which we relinquish security control of the territory west of the River Jordan."
Palestinians have yet to experience a day of self-governance. Israel immediately imposed a siege upon the Gaza Strip when Hamas won parliamentary elections in January 2006 and tightened it severely when Hamas routed Fatah in June 2007. The siege has created a "humanitarian catastrophe" in the Gaza Strip. Inhabitants will not be able to access clean water, electricity or tend to even the most urgent medical needs. The World Health Organization explains that the Gaza Strip will be unlivable by 2020. Not only did Israel not end its occupation, it has created a situation in which Palestinians cannot survive in the long-term.
3) This Israeli operation, among others, was caused by rocket fire from Gaza.
Israel claims that its current and past wars against the Palestinian population in Gaza have been in response to rocket fire. Empirical evidence from 2008, 2012 and 2014 refute that claim. First, according to Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the greatest reduction of rocket fire came through diplomatic rather than military means. This chart demonstrates the correlation between Israel's military attacks upon the Gaza Strip and Hamas militant activity. Hamas rocket fire increases in response to Israeli military attacks and decreases in direct correlation to them. Cease-fires have brought the greatest security to the region.
During the four months of the Egyptian-negotiated cease-fire in 2008, Palestinian militants reduced the number of rockets to zero or single digits from the Gaza Strip. Despite this relative security and calm, Israel broke the cease-fire to begin the notorious aerial and ground offensive that killed 1,400 Palestinians in twenty-two days. In November 2012, Israel's extrajudicial assassination of Ahmad Jabari, the chief of Hamas's military wing in Gaza, while he was reviewing terms for a diplomatic solution, again broke the cease-fire that precipitated the eight-day aerial offensive that killed 132 Palestinians.
Immediately preceding Israel's most recent operation, Hamas rocket and mortar attacks did not threaten Israel. Israel deliberately provoked this war with Hamas. Without producing a shred of evidence, it accused the political faction of kidnapping and murdering three settlers near Hebron. Four weeks and almost 700 lives later, Israel has yet to produce any evidence demonstrating Hamas's involvement. During ten days of Operation Brother's Keeper in the West Bank, Israel arrested approximately 800 Palestinians without charge or trial, killed nine civilians and raided nearly 1,300 residential, commercial and public buildings. Its military operation targeted Hamas members released during the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange in 2011. It's these Israeli provocations that precipitated the Hamas rocket fire to which Israel claims left it with no choice but a gruesome military operation.
4) Israel avoids civilian casualties, but Hamas aims to kill civilians.
Hamas has crude weapons technology that lacks any targeting capability. As such, Hamas rocket attacks ipso facto violate the principle of distinction because all of its attacks are indiscriminate. This is not contested. Israel, however, would not be any more tolerant of Hamas if it strictly targeted military objects, as we have witnessed of late. Israel considers Hamas and any form of its resistance, armed or otherwise, to be illegitimate.
In contrast, Israel has the eleventh most powerful military in the world, certainly the strongest by far in the Middle East, and is a nuclear power that has not ratified the non-proliferation agreement and has precise weapons technology. With the use of drones, F-16s and an arsenal of modern weapon technology, Israel has the ability to target single individuals and therefore to avoid civilian casualties. But rather than avoid them, Israel has repeatedly targeted civilians as part of its military operations.
The Dahiya Doctrine is central to these operations and refers to Israel's indiscriminate attacks on Lebanon in 2006. Maj. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot said that this would be applied elsewhere:
QuoteWhat happened in the Dahiya quarter of Beirut in 2006 will happen in every village from which Israel is fired on. [...] We will apply disproportionate force on it and cause great damage and destruction there. From our standpoint, these are not civilian villages, they are military bases.
Israel has kept true to this promise. The 2009 UN Fact-Finding Mission to the Gaza Conflict, better known as the Goldstone Mission, concluded "from a review of the facts on the ground that it witnessed for itself that what was prescribed as the best strategy [Dahiya Doctrine] appears to have been precisely what was put into practice."
According to the National Lawyers Guild, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, Israel directly targeted civilians or recklessly caused civilian deaths during Operation Cast Lead. Far from avoiding the deaths of civilians, Israel effectively considers them legitimate targets.
5) Hamas hides its weapons in homes, mosques and schools and uses human shields.
This is arguably one of Israel's most insidious claims, because it blames Palestinians for their own death and deprives them of even their victimhood. Israel made the same argument in its war against Lebanon in 2006 and in its war against Palestinians in 2008. Notwithstanding its military cartoon sketches, Israel has yet to prove that Hamas has used civilian infrastructure to store military weapons. The two cases where Hamas indeed stored weapons in UNRWA schools, the schools were empty. UNRWA discovered the rockets and publicly condemned the violation of its sanctity.
International human rights organizations that have investigated these claims have determined that they are not true. It attributed the high death toll in Israel's 2006 war on Lebanon to Israel's indiscriminate attacks. Human Rights Watch notes:
The evidence Human Rights Watch uncovered in its on-the-ground investigations refutes [Israel's] argument...we found strong evidence that Hezbollah stored most of its rockets in bunkers and weapon storage facilities located in uninhabited fields and valleys, that in the vast majority of cases Hezbollah fighters left populated civilian areas as soon as the fighting started, and that Hezbollah fired the vast majority of its rockets from pre-prepared positions outside villages.
In fact, only Israeli soldiers have systematically used Palestinians as human shields. Since Israel's incursion into the West Bank in 2002, it has used Palestinians as human shields by tying young Palestinians onto the hoods of their cars or forcing them to go into a home where a potential militant may be hiding.
Even assuming that Israel's claims were plausible, humanitarian law obligates Israel to avoid civilian casualties that "would be excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated." A belligerent force must verify whether civilian or civilian infrastructure qualifies as a military objective. In the case of doubt, "whether an object which is normally dedicated to civilian purposes, such as a place of worship, a house or other dwelling or a school, is being used to make an effective contribution to military action, it shall be presumed not to be so used."
In the over thee weeks of its military operation, Israel has demolished 3,175 homes, at least a dozen with families inside; destroyed five hospitals and six clinics; partially damaged sixty-four mosques and two churches; partially to completely destroyed eight government ministries; injured 4,620; and killed over 700 Palestinians. At plain sight, these numbers indicate Israel's egregious violations of humanitarian law, ones that amount to war crimes.
Beyond the body count and reference to law, which is a product of power, the question to ask is, What is Israel's end goal? What if Hamas and Islamic Jihad dug tunnels beneath the entirety of the Gaza Strip—they clearly did not, but let us assume they did for the sake of argument. According to Israel's logic, all of Gaza's 1.8 million Palestinians are therefore human shields for being born Palestinian in Gaza. The solution is to destroy the 360-kilometer square strip of land and to expect a watching world to accept this catastrophic loss as incidental. This is possible only by framing and accepting the dehumanization of Palestinian life. Despite the absurdity of this proposal, it is precisely what Israeli society is urging its military leadership to do. Israel cannot bomb Palestinians into submission, and it certainly cannot bomb them into peace.

Does someone want to continue to talk about Israeli "terrorism" for which there is no real evidence?? Want to talk about the suicidal killing ON PURPOSE of innocent civilians? Well, for the real reality of terrorism, how about this for a start!! There is NOTHING like this to be found about Israel conducting terrorist attacks!!
This information provides very detailed information by year for these Palestinian terroristic suicidal attacks - listed by year, name given the attack, date it happened, where it happened, the death toll for each attack. and which palestinian group "claimed" responsibility.

The way they are blowing the hell out of everything how could they even know? It sounds like they are hoping sooner or later their "precision" strikes might actually hit a legitimate military target. May karma bite in the buttocks with extreme prejudice.

Freda Hughes, spokeswoman for Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign who are hosting the protests, said Ireland's decision to abstsain from a United Nations vote to investigate allegation of Israeli war crimes in Gaza was "shameful".
"People across the globe are disgusted and appalled by what they are witnessing in Gaza," she said.
"It is a war on the whole people of Gaza; men, women, children, hospitals, schools and neighbourhoods."Similar protests were echoed across Europe with more than 45,000 people showed up to protest against the conflict in London...

LOL - I can find no real facts where the Palestinians have ever had a country of their own. And what Israel has, they fought to get it, by winning over whoever had it at the time. The Israelis are a remarkable people, and have made much of what was a pretty much barren waste land. They won't give it up, and NOBODY will ever take it from them again. :) Even when it might look like all is lost for them, it won't be lost in the END.
We are living in exciting times!! I remain to be expecting other countries to start sticking their military noses into this conflict, siding with hamas. That is when it will get really interesting, as blood may/will run very deep!
I don't really think it is about helping Hamas at all...it is the CIVILIAN POPULATION that is the main concern. Everyone knows this is not a war that can be won militarily.

hamas is totally responsible for what is happening, to them and to their civilian body shields - and yes, they will be defeated, either now or in the near future. Terrorists cannot prevail in this world! Radical Islam cannot prevail in this world. If either does, the other 5 billion people (non muslims) will have died trying to prevent it - and I don't expect that to happen! :)

Can't answer your question on this Robo, as I didn't start this discussion. I did earlier start the first thread on this Israel/hamas war here - "Operation Protective Edge" http://www.thelivingmoon.com/forum/index.php?topic=7012.0
I did state in the OP there why I thought it to be an important subject.

QuoteWhen Israel first encountered Islamists in Gaza in the 1970s and '80s, they seemed focused on studying the Quran, not on confrontation with Israel. The Israeli government officially recognized a precursor to Hamas called Mujama Al-Islamiya, registering the group as a charity. It allowed Mujama members to set up an Islamic university and build mosques, clubs and schools. Crucially, Israel often stood aside when the Islamists and their secular left-wing Palestinian rivals battled, sometimes violently, for influence in both Gaza and the West Bank.
"When I look back at the chain of events I think we made a mistake," says David Hacham, who worked in Gaza in the late 1980s and early '90s as an Arab-affairs expert in the Israeli military. "But at the time nobody thought about the possible results."

Hamas May Not Have Kidnapped Israeli Teens -- NYMag (http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/07/hamas-didnt-kidnap-the-israeli-teens-after-all.html)
By Katie Zavadski
When the bodies of three Israeli teenagers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_kidnapping_and_murder_of_Israeli_teenagers), kidnapped in the West Bank, were found late last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not mince words. "Hamas is responsible, and Hamas will pay (http://www.businessinsider.com/netanyahu-hamas-will-pay-for-the-killing-of-three-israeli-teens-2014-6)," he said, initiating a campaign that eventually escalated into the present conflict in the region.
On 15 June, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the teens had been kidnapped by Hamas, which Hamas denied. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas maintained that as of 22 June there was no evidence that Hamas was behind the kidnapping. Hamas denied any involvement in the kidnapping.
But now, Israeli officials admit the kidnappings were not Hamas's handiwork after all.
(
Update: The comments from the Israeli spokesperson in question indicate that the group thought to be responsible, a "lone cell," may not have been under direct orders from Hamas's leadership, but was loosely affiliated with the group. The headline of this post has been changed to reflect that discrepancy. See below for more.)
BuzzFeed reporter Sheera Frenkel was among the first to suggest that it was unlikely that Hamas was behind the deaths of Gilad Shaar, Naftali Frenkel, and Eyal Yifrach. Citing Palestinian sources and experts in the field, Frenkel reported that kidnapping three Israeli teens would be a foolish move for Hamas.
International experts told her it was likely the work of a local group, acting without concern for the repercussions:
[Gershon Baskin] pointed out that Hamas has earlier this month signed an agreement to form a unity government with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, bridging, for the first time in seven years, the Palestinian leadership in the West Bank and Gaza.
"They will lose their reconciliation agreement with Abbas if they do take responsibility for [the kidnappings]," Baskin added.
Today, she may have been proven right:
Repeated inconsistencies in Israeli descriptions of the situation have sparked debate over whether Israel wanted to provoke Hamas into a confrontation. Israeli intelligence is also said to have known that the boys were dead shortly after they disappeared, but to have maintained public optimism about their safe return to beef up support from the Jewish diaspora. Writing for Al Jazeera, Musa al-Gharbi argued that Israel was deliberately provoking Hamas:
All the illegal and immoral actions related to Operation Brother's Keeper were justified under the premise of finding and saving the missing teens whom the Israeli government knew to be dead — cynically exploiting the tragedy to whip up public outcry in order to provoke and then confront Hamas. This pattern of deception continues under the ongoing military offensive in Gaza.
For example, last week in collaboration with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Abbas, in its efforts to alienate Hamas, Israel announced a bad-faith cease-fire proposal, which Hamas was not consulted on and never agreed to but whose violation supposedly justified Israel's expansion and intensification of the military campaign into Gaza.
Despite continued negotiations, the violence shows no signs of letting up, and after Thursday night's massive protests in the West Bank, there is still no ceasefire agreement. On Friday, it became clear that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's attempts to broker a seven-day truce were rejected by Israeli officials.
Instead, Israel will apparently widen its ground operation in the Gaza Strip, despite international outcry about the civilian death toll. According to unnamed officials, the proposed truce was too generous to Hamas's demands.
Hamas, meanwhile, still hasn't weighed in on the agreement, whose details are being kept secret, but continued to launch rockets into Israel. International peace talks are set to resume in France this weekend, and we're keeping our fingers crossed.
Updated, July 26, 11:44 a.m.: This claim was also reported by BBC's Jon Donnison, who spoked to Israel Police Foreign Press Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld:

Update, July 28, 9:21 a.m.: Rosenfeld, the Israeli spokesperson, is seeking to clarify that while the lone cell did not receive direct orders from Hamas, it was still affiliated.
"The kidnapping and murder of the teens was carried out by Hamas terrorists from the Hebron area," he claimed in comments to The Daily Beast.
"The security organizations are continuing to search for the murderers."But Donnison, the BBC journalist, is not backtracking from his earlier reporting:

LOL - and I "propose" that is pure BS, as is much of what is being said here relative to Israel. Time will once again prove- "results are the teachers of fools"! Did you not learn anything from the well documented history of the suicidal killings by hamas and other palestinian groups, which I posted just yesterday?? Do you for reason think hamas has changed, and now is no longer the suicidal civilian killing machine of the past??
We and the muslim/arab world can "propose" whatever we wish, but, the difference with Israel is, when they draw a line in the sand, they mean what they say. hamas has crossed that line and continues to fire rockets/missiles into Israel. Israel for sure has responded to the line crossing, and hamas/palestinians are paying dearly, and they will pay dearly until their leaders, hamas, concedes defeat, or they all are killed and gone to be with their 70 virgins. >:(
Does any non-muslim have reason to consider that hamas is not an extreme threat to the entire non-muslim world?? They for sure are, as they have made that very clear by word and action.............in many very public venues! Elimination is what they deserve for all they have done everywhere in my "proposing" opinion. If they aren't. we in the US will be having the same fight tomorrow, as is Israel today - is that what we want??

QuoteCreating the Enemies We Now Fight Against
We've extensively documented that the U.S. and Israel created Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups in an attempt to fight other enemies.
Larry Johnson – a counterterrorism official at the U.S. State Department – says:
The Israelis are their own worst enemies when it comes to fighting terrorism. They are like a guy who sets fire to his hair and then tries to put it out by hitting it with a hammer. They do more to incite and sustain terrorism than curb it.
As one example, Israel helped create Hamas.
United Press International reported in 2002:
According to several current and former U.S. intelligence officials, beginning in the late 1970s, Tel Aviv gave direct and indirect financial aid to Hamas over a period of years.Israel "aided Hamas directly — the Israelis wanted to use it as a counterbalance to the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization)," said Tony Cordesman, Middle East analyst for the Center for Strategic Studies.
Israel's support for Hamas "was a direct attempt to divide and dilute support for a strong, secular PLO by using a competing religious alternative," said a former senior CIA official.
According to documents United Press International obtained from the Israel-based Institute for Counter Terrorism, Hamas evolved from cells of the Muslim Brotherhood, founded in Egypt in 1928. Islamic movements in Israel and Palestine were "weak and dormant" until after the 1967 Six Day War in which Israel scored a stunning victory over its Arab enemies.
After 1967, a great part of the success of the Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood was due to their activities among the refugees of the Gaza Strip. The cornerstone of the Islamic movements success was an impressive social, religious, educational and cultural infrastructure, called Da'wah, that worked to ease the hardship of large numbers of Palestinian refugees, confined to camps, and many who were living on the edge.
"Social influence grew into political influence," first in the Gaza Strip, then on the West Bank, said an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to ICT papers, Hamas was legally registered in Israel in 1978 by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the movement's spiritual leader, as an Islamic Association by the name Al-Mujamma al Islami, which widened its base of supporters and sympathizers by religious propaganda and social work.
According to U.S. administration officials, funds for the movement came from the oil-producing states and directly and indirectly from Israel. The PLO was secular and leftist and promoted Palestinian nationalism. Hamas wanted to set up a transnational state under the rule of Islam, much like Khomeini's Iran.

QuoteThe Israelis created Hamas. But before we explore why, let's be clear that Israel does not want peace. They want all of Palestine, and their belligerent settlement practices confirm that.
But the Israelis are posturing as being willing to talk "peace", only to actually stall that peace process, so as advance the further colonization of Palestine.
So anything that can be offered as an excuse, will be. The most convenient ploy, presented with the sycophantic assistance of the media, is that of "terrorism".
The masses are naive, and fail to suspect the Machiavellian extremes that certain leaders will resort to. This includes creating a false enemy, in this case, Hamas, whereby the right-wing leadership of the Israelis can point the finger to some "enemy" to blame for supposedly stalling the process.

QuoteIslamic Fundamentalism - A Creation of Zionism and US Imperialism
But for the deliberate actions of Israel's Shin Bet, internal security police, there would have been no Hamas. This is Israel's dark and dirty secret. What Uri Avnery, a former member of Israel's Knesset and veteran peacenik (albeit still a Zionist) speaks about has long been known. Avi Shlaim touched upon it. [The Iron Wall, 459, 2001]. So have other commentators.
This was a time when the United States was backing Islamic Fundamentalism in Afghanistan Anyone remember the James Bond film, Living Daylights, where the Islamic fighter was the hero? No, that's not surprising, it quickly became out of date as the Islamists proved, as they had been intended to prove, the most useful enemy that US imperialism and Zionism could have.

The key to understanding the confict is understanding each
country's ( sides ) religious beliefs.
To understand Hamas, we need to look no further than
their own declarations.
Quote
The charter of Hamas, the controlling faction in the Gaza Strip, states, "[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. For renouncing any part of Palestine means renouncing part of the religion[.]"
Suddenly, the current conflict between Israel and the Hamas faction in the Gaza Strip comes into striking clarity. In evaluating the violence currently going on in Gaza, it is informative to understand not only how both sides operate, but how both sides define themselves and their purposes.
Although Hamas rejects the peace process, its charter, written in 1988, proposes an acceptable alternative solution to the conflict: "There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. The initiatives, proposals and International Conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility."
http://www.americanthinker.com/2014/07/what_does_hamas_want.html
http://www.thejerusalemfund.org/www.thejerusalemfund.org/carryover/documents/charter.html?chocaid=397
The Hamas charter states
"Israel, by virtue of its being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims."
The charter further states,
"The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!"
So yes, it is tragic that civilians are killed, yet it would seem that
Hamas considers the loss of life an ordinary course of
Jihad.

First some facts....
A rampant insanity has gripped the religidiots of the middle east for millenia, with Islam the latest patient to arrive on the looney bin roll call..and rest assured, no matter what, the future will bring more new religions to kill and maim in the name of god, allah, flying spaghetti monster or what have you..as the region breeds discontentment and intolerance as a rule.
Seeds of hate, breed plants and trees of hate...until someone goes in with a chainsaw, it will perpetuate for another 4 millenia.

And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.-- The Qu'ran, 13:7. (Emphasis mine)
While I will agree that the signal to noise ratio is much lower than in most religions, there still is some genuine value to be found in Islamic theology. The problem these days, is primarily the behaviour of individual Muslims. Contrast the above verse with the contemporary belief that any who live outside the
ummah are to be put to the sword.
This may seem inconsistent with my previous rantings about Islam as a religion on this forum; but the truth of the matter is that Islam is largely two religions within one. There are directives within it for good and decent behaviour, and there are directives for barbarism; and you will find Muslims who adhere to both. Each group also believes that his way is proper, and that whoever does the opposite is an apostate.
Mohammed may well have been a barbarian; my perspective on that issue has not changed much. My own limited angelic contact, however, has led me to believe that he
did have a genuine divine commission. It is possible that as violent as he was, the other Arabs alive at the time were simply worse. In my observation, the Gods are opportunists; they make do with what they can find.
My primary grievance with Muslims, is not that their religion is spiritually illegitimate; but rather, that they seem to have great difficulty in recognising that legitimacy in the religions of other people.
