Well it's official. My wife has quarantined me to the house. Not that I have anything, just as a precaution. I am 70 years old and a bad ticker, so she doesn't want me to take any chances.
She works at a hospital, on a long term care unit, she's an RN, so I'm letting her call the shots....

I'm 67 but am keeping my distance and watching where I go.

I hear ya! As it stands to begin with, I didn't go anywhere to begin with. I hate crowds, don't do Mardi Gras, hate drunks and stay out of bars. So I've been 'social distancing' for a while now. The only place I'd go was maybe to a restaurant or the store, but since the restaurants have closed and the stores that are open are packed with people. Well you get it!

That's the best thing to do. :)

PS: I'm younger, I'm "only" 57 (almost) but I have to take pills to slow my heart rate, to lower the blood pressure and for the diabetes, besides my asthma, that makes my lungs appear to be 75 years old.

At 43, I will take some comfort from knowing that (Kali willing) I am apparently the furthest away from death on this forum.

My brother has returned to my mother's house with his Vietnamese de facto, and their 3 year old son.  Many would probably be happy about this; but I am not the family type, so I am not pleased.

I hope this virus business passes quickly.  We have lives to live, which are being disrupted by it.

Its lucky and good for you that  he survived !

I suspect many of us had relatives who had close calls...

Until such things occur.. I have never taken the time to really look into past history of epidemics..

but recall being warned about them some years ago from my fathers friend who told me they could be one of the most serious things that may happen.

If I had time id like to look up some of the past ones and try to compare them to the Spanish Flu in 1918.

I recall the likes of the black death in 1300s... and If I recall that was one of the worst ever...

but not sure how it compred to 1918..

this may give some guidelines...

but these links  seem maybe since 1918..

My grandfather, during the Spanish Flu pandemic, went to the doctor to ask what he could do to avoid it, and the doctor told him to lay on the bed, put the hat at his feet and drink until seeing two hats. He followed the doctor's orders and was not affected. :)

All I can say is I prey that A.J is wrong on this occasion, if he is not God help us all.

I do however still think he has been right on some of his theories...

In ref to the economy.

In several countries they have had severe cut backs etc and complained about shortage of money for this and that.

NOW the Markets have severely crashed.

what do we see.. them claiming..

They are going to print more money to help cover these issies in such a crisis...

Where has that all of a sudden come from one may wonder ???

Those who may have known the markets were going to crash have just made the most money ever in history of the markets inside 2 months..

Anyone who understands the devivitives markets and Put options.. such as say a 27000 March put option on the Dow jones Index..

just made 160 times what they paid for it...

so what ever your stake.. say you paid 1000 dollars...   you just made 160,000 dollars on ONE option...

the Dow fell from 29570 high to 19000 from Feb 12th to today which was March option expiry...

thats over 10,000 point decline..

I will say  this again...

This to me is more serious looking that that of 1929..

NO past decline that I can see on research has ever fallen so fast and far in such a short time.

At the moment its 35 / 36 % down..

In 1987 it fell 38.2 % if I recall in 56 days   and re rallied. but the decline bak then was only about 1000 points..
NOT 10,000

this shows DOW V SPX ... on for 1929 and the SPX 500 for 1987

why they dont show 1987 for down I dont know..

https://www.seeitmarket.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/1929-2017-1987-Chart-Tweet.png

This could happen again...and lets prey it does...

BUT if it fails to hold...

Crashes will often continue on a 1st leg down to 50% decline from its high... to about 15000...

(Option prices just before the start of the deline were relitively cheap.... you could have bought some further away options say just for 50 dollars.. and they became worth  many times more... say 2000 dollars)

this could occur again even at the level that the market is now.. BUT in times of severe volitility... they get many times more expensive..... so you now may pay 5 or 10 times more ...

IF you bought call option for April and the market moved up...say 3000 points you may be able to still buy calls which are options if bet that the market  will rise.. rathen than deline which is what put options are for...in normal trading..

you may get a similar result and make many times the money paid for them...but unlikely any where hear what has just occurred.

what has just happened this month is probably the best opportunity in the market to have made 100K on a stake less than 1000 dollars..

(there are other ways to use these options buy selling calls or selling puts... but thats a more comple strategy.)

if the market rallies a reasonable ammount say back up  to 25000..

It may still be possible to buy further put options on April say 15000 puts ... maybe as low as say 300 to 800 dollars.

and if the marrket contines to decline... there could still be a good opportunity to profit very quickly at lowish costs..

back in 11929... the market then bounced for a few months maybe 50 % back up.. then deline for a couple of years like in 1929..

the dow declined to a low in 1932..

but all that took much more time to occur.. and you cannot do the egs I decribe..

then took 25 yrs to recover.

History could well  occur again..

but at the same time we think we are more advanced to avoid or alter this..

the question I ask is this just one of those rare unexpected genuine cases or a created virus to cause this by the powers that be.

Its benn said that allow the markets and properties to rise in certain generations ... then crash them to put us all down back to poverty...

unfortunately most people will  have missed or got caught out on the 1st severe unexpected decline..

House prices may follow if not already done so..

but a week ago some property agents were still offering the same prices prior to the crash.

From what I remember he has many, so he is able to say "I told you so" when something happen and keep quiet when nothing happens. :)
Why should he?
I don't have the slightest idea of what he knows, but I'm sure he is more interested in making money than anything else.
I have the tendency to accept more easily theories that have sound supporting evidence, theories with dubious evidence I tend to keep on the "less likely" category, theories with no evidence are not really theories, only ideas.

Yeah back in 2006 I had aorta bi-femoral by-pass surgery, gutted me like a fish. Since then I've had two heart attacks, but haven't had any issues for 10 years. So all is good, just being cautious.  ;D
