BRING ON THE TROLLS

Hi Zorgon,

So many options and possibilities... making the right decisions is one of the main problems.

Then sometimes life gets in the way for us all as we all hit different phases that distracts us as a group in trying to even to think about and discuss and find solutions... 

Its not so bad when ones mind is clear from other distractions to try and offer ideas....

Running a forum, no doubt is not easy...if you are trying to run it in the way that you want....

I hope that we as a group can come up with the right formula after reading some of the comments and things that have to be considered..
We are all at differing levels and knowledge & abilities..and maybe few of us are really familiar with what is really  involved in setting up a forum in terms of all the things involved in setting it up and what one has to consider...IF I try and think about it....Im not sure my mind can comprehend it or the possible complexities behind it!



Just To start with considering a few points...... when you indicate using a 2nd forum say to allow all including Trolls ... The other basic forum that you have or what you initially had when the recent problems occurred .... you suggest using that to be open to all....

Can I ask could you not  set up an  almost identical forum to this present one or is this one that requires more costs etc..

I say this as when I look at various forums... I think PRCs layout is very good.... I like it.. BUT I do not like many other forum layouts..including
even A.T.S & GLPs...

I just joined GLP to have a closer look at it as I do not like the way they show a cluster of various posts on all varying topics on their main home page...( Im trying to find how many members that they have...I can see that it is a very active forum.. but up to now, im not sure if i like it)

IF there is a 2nd forum open to all... if you arranged it similar to this forum... with similar topics... and even posted certain duplicate content to this forum... Then... it may be that would enough present PRC members be willing to spend their time taking part in the 2nd forum..
or will new members do enough posting to make it active and interesting enough ?

Its just my initial opinion.. but I think it would be good if you could replicate an almost similar forum style to this PRC forum...rather than the other one that you have !

Yup that was the plan originally with THIS one  public areas and private areas. Problem is those that say they don't want to play with the trolls are the FIRST ones to engage them

Those that invent are busy inventing, not spending time in forums talking about inventing   It's a conundrum.

True, but with a little extra effort we can do both.
JLN may be busy, or people seem to be losing interest. I rather like PRC being troll-free.
For a start it means i don't have to keep repeating stuff, if people are going to ask stupid questions on page 23 when it's already been answered on page 2, it just gets irritating after a while....
Yes we need more coverage, ratings etc. We do need to get the forum 'out there' and that's why it's a good idea to start posting more 'in depth' topics on the public forum. At least we still have the 'closed' areas where we can discuss in peace & quiet

yes, we need to put some docu's together. Definitely!
Preferably with some interviews via Skype etc so we can see the people talking, and we have plenty of subjects to cover!
If i can help in any way....maybe some stirring music theme tunes or something

Seriously, we can do a number of things to generate income, & we should all try to be aware of that aspect when we post something.
Matrix, you have enough info for a complete book (or two). Maybe we could get into some kind of publishing venture?

Good point, that's why i make frequent references to the 'back room' on the public area, and i try to read what others (especially new members) are posting
We need more inventors & researchers to share the workload, for some reason people are looking at me to get it all done but we are now ready to start 'delegating' certain tasks to specific people, otherwise we will get nowhere. Given the current financial situation, i am happy that i can continue to sink money & time into this, for as long as it lasts.....

The Trolls and hence the free for all would be at the other forum address... the original one. Sadly I have not had time lately to stop in there daily to let people know what is going on. It may require recruiting a few staff just to handle that area and send the good ones 'up the line'

I myself am contemplating video's I could make for the PRC channel, I also think using the original forum site as a catch all and screening room plastered with ads is a step in the right direction...

Interviews, docu's,phone-ins,and yes Blogs too. The 'comments' section alone would bring lots of yay/nay sayers to the (original) forum, which i call the 'white' one. Haven't been there myself for ages.
Z, if you can move the 'public' areas over there, it would generate a LOT of interest.

Even volunteer groups know this to be the case.... you need the doers to organize the workers into a useful group, or you just have chaos and people running around like headless chickens and nothing gets done

On a personal note, my mother is very ill & may not even make it into the new year, so i will be absent now & then, it's something i have to come to terms with, & arrangements to make with family etc. Please be patient if i don't reply at once.

Just my simple opinion, only for what it is worth - IF, we already have one forum that is not meeting desired expectation, then possibly, the quickest way to go further downhill, could be to make a second forum, if nothing is done to mitigate the believed reasons for the sluggishness of the first forum.

Some of the ideas discussed in this thread, such as YouTube videos would likely bring improved results. Just my thought, if we want to get better, and do better as a forum, shouldn't we focus on making this forum the best possible, before branching out with new forums, as has been suggested?

It has been said here that for videos to be successful, at least in part, "it is all about the title". Is there any reason to think that is not the case likewise for a forum? Z, have you thought about changing the name of this forum, to possibly enhance participation and interest around the world?

The title "PEGASUS RESEARCH CONSORTIUM" may be a feel good sound good "title" for some of us, but............that title won't mean much to most folks. And, besides that the word "Research", while in-tune with many here, won't ring any bells with the majority of people, as the majority of people are not "Researchers".

To make this forum a "good and interesting" operation for MANY, and at the same time make it commercially positive, there are likely many changes that can be made "right here" to make that happen, without a need for a second forum for you to have to DEAL WITH.

So, just throw these thoughts in the pot with the rest.

Oh, yes! For me, a little more on-site advertising here would be just fine!! Such is generally expected by most people at this point in net-work stuff!

Well, if PRC wants to make some nice videos for youtube I offer my music for free or my production "skills"  I have done it before
I could make some kind of general background music especially for PRC productions. Intros breaks etc...
