Fog is not always thick as pea soup, though I have navigated through stuff that was so thick you couldn't see the front of a 26ft Schooner  8)

True, but if you can see it then it mean that you cannot see what's under it as clearly as what is not under the fog.

(I once was in a car, driving down a mountain, and we couldn't see more than some 3 metres in front of us. My father once found on the road a man in a car that was completely lost, he didn't know if he was going to Lisbon or in the opposite direction. We do get thick fog in Portugal. :) )

Fog usually doesn't remain on slopes, as you probably know. The San Francisco photo and the Mars photo you posted show precisely that

From what I can see the MoonKam wasn't a very high resolution camera (They are 'very' secretive about it's specs).
Normally they use Malin Space Systems cameras but this time they didn't.
Every Grail image i have seen is blurry and out of focus, seems like it had a fixed aperture!
Case in Point:


It's primary Mission was to obtain a 'Gravity Map' of the Moon, and i think it did that very well.


Of course you have got to take into account that those images were taken as the probe was screaming into the Moon just before impact  :)

If we assume they have been intentionally blurred, because they are of the other side of the moon, then I will run some de-convolution tests and image-tampering checks and get back to you  ;D
