Well, its T minus 6 days and counting, Thanksgiving Day
has rolled around once again, and I tought it would
be a fun topic for a light hearted thread.

I dont cook Turkey but once a year for the most part,
yet when that day comes it takes some prepping for sure
and those cooks who do this year after year know
wingin it can be too stressful. I learned this the hard
way....lol. First Turkey I ever did on my own I was
in a hurry, and the bird was still partly frozen
which made it a real pain to work with, to say the least.
Still, I thought I had done well washing it, oiling it
with Olive Oil and some spices, got it in its pan
and dialed the temp right, put the timer on.

Then I moved on to the trimmings. But wait,
where were the giblets and neck that my
Grammy and Mom always used for gravy
and stuffing? Hmmmm....I guess my Turkey
must have come without them....did not have
a timer either. Dang! So, I moved on anyhow.

Then hit another snag, so I called my mom
up she gave me her advice, then I mentioned
that I had no giblets or neck. Haha well come to
find out, I did they were just still in a frozen
cavity somewhere!  :o

Had to pull that bird out of the oven, and dig
in and find them....fortunately they were not
yet cooked and found the timer too!

So, I learned my lesson, and now plan
ahead, and have experimented with many
different types of Turkey preps, and methods.
Brining, bagging, tenting, breast side down,
BBQ, and deep fried. My favorite prep
idea is now growing my own herbs,
love that!

And, that is just the Turkey side of it!
Thanksgiving is so much more, other
favorite dishes, festivities, family and
freinds, traditions passed on generation
to generation.

And most of all, it is an opportunity to
at least once a year to express how fully
grateful for all that we have.

Well, I hope you all will share some good
times here, recipies, games, and any other
thing, even jokes. I know many of us will
be busy, so I also want to take a moment
and express my thanks to Z for being such
a good host here on Peggy, and to you all
what a great bunch of folks. I am so thankful
for all of you!

You know one of the many things I love about the states is your enthusiasm for holidays. Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, st Patricks day etc etc. the list goes on. There is so much genuine effort that goes in to celebrate good family times. I found It really endearing when I lived over there. You kids know how to enjoy.
Happy Thanksgiving to my brothers and sisters over the pond.

Being thankful every day, I don't "celebrate" Thanksgiving, but the chance to get together with the Ones I love.

Holidays.  Always a good excuse to bring up a 10 year old tawny port, troll the kids, chat up the elders.  And old family recipes that are just a part of the holidays.

Being thankful every day

Indeed Amy, thankful everyday.

As Elivs said, I love the family together and will use
any day the calender so allows, it is far more
important than getting hung up on political correctness.

This is the best, as you pick em when you need
them so much cheaper than the store, taste better too.

BTS-Do you have 3 extra seats at the table. The Deuems are hungry for real turkey. I can only get turkey hot dogs and for some reason it's not the same! sniff, sniff.

In New England, my home. Thanksgiving is as big as Christmas, just without the gifts. T-Day football every where and eat all day. Pumkin pie with whipped cream, oooh! The list goes on.

So some one out there, while your chomping on a huge turkey leg, think of me and send me that thought. I'll get it....Where I lived in New England, we had small Turkey farms and we would pre tag them and pay for them months in advance so it would be fresh and never frozen. yummy.

Just not the same

I'm so hungry now !

I myself don't celebrate Thanksgiving; I am thankful always... it is a day to cook, enjoy being with loved ones, and relax a bit before winter arrives...

being southern, i am a master of the bar b q pit and the smoker; t-day always has a large bird in the smoker, baked beans simmering in the firebox, deviled eggs and fresh potato salad, slow roasted corn and sage cornbread dressing...

I am thankful for all my friends here at Pegasus, and my friend Zorgon...

best wishes to all.

I would fire up the saucer and take you up on that but PWM took some parts for 1WWs machine and I'm grounded now.

Yes on the free range birds, Better tasting than an ice cube bird for sure...

It's days like this that stink here for me. :'(    And when they have their holidays I have no idea of what to do or how to feel. ::)   I guess this is why they call it home.... :'(   and a tear! :'(

Enjoy where you are and why and think about all the others that would love to be there.

Sad Deuem Day, :'(   but still hungry for Turkey. ;D  Maybe I can go find a big fat rat.... ???

Mouth watering, love the idea of smokin the bird, and the
fixins being southern. Yum

This year I tried a salted herb rub recipie, it is now
my hand down the best so far, aside from smoked....

@ deuem,
