also, she made it as a vector first in illustrator
Which means nothing when converted to PNG. :)

it loaded instant for me.
It was instantaneous to me after the first load, as it was cached, but the first loading was clearly noticeable.

The first time I saw it I checked the photo size and it was half of what you wrote 1620 x 632. Or the 53% you mentioned. The photo downloaded maybe larger but when doing properties I only saw it at 53%

It loaded instant for me the very first time. I guess the internet Gods favored me at that moments. I do pay for 8mb connection, which I usually get 1 to 3 if lucky. Once in a Jade wabbit moon I will get an instant connection.  And the next moment tossed off the net.

by the way ladies, it looks fantastic. Great job, keep at it !  8)

That's the problem, the browser has to download the whole image, then it resizes it to a smaller size, and that's a waste of bandwidth.

You can see here that the image is a 850 kB download.
(click for full size)

But I agree, it's looking better and better. :)

hey can you help me fix this problem with css?
the issue is, i can only have a normal repeating background
for the page because of mobile phones not accepting
images scaled to 100% as a background image option.  well
they accept it but they squeeze such images down to the size of the window and then the text scrolls off the bottom.

so i thought i'd make a separate background to go in a div but then the text was being treated like it was the background as well and would go right up to the edge of the div background. if i put the div background outside of the div positioning and put it in a separate div, it would disappear.

as you can see from this page, the background also cannot be inside the div as an img statement either, or it just pushes the text down the page.

any suggestions?

I don't know if I understood what you meant, is it something like this?

Test 4

PS: your HTML code has some errors, mostly because it's supposed to be HTML 5 and many of the things you used disappeared in HTML 5.

This is how the code should look from the top down:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Pegasus Presents</title>
<meta name="description" content="Alternative topic interviews on pre-recorded radio shows.">
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8">

<style>
a:link {color:##f26522;}    /* unvisited link */
a:visited {color:#f26522;} /* visited link */
a:hover {color:#FF00FF;}   /* mouse over link */
a:active {color:#f26522;}  /* selected link */
</style>
</head>

Be sure the closing tags are on the end

</body>
</html>

thanks armap!  but notice this screenshot of it being tested in screenfly.  it's an example of it on an apple iphone.

that's the same problem that happens if the background of the whole page is one image.

html 5 is not fully implemented in all browsers.  i think you meant html 4

Simple solution  is make a big background

The pretty stuff at top with nothing but black or white below so the backdrop is linger than the page. Repeat only only happens if your page is too long

zorgon

I alos use at leat ONE table and center it  I usually won't make it bigger than 980 wide

That way it fits all small screens and doesn't look to bad on big ones and loads fast :D

sadly, it doesn't display correctly in mobile devices.  they take the entire background image and zoom it down to the size of the window, which can vary from 200 or so pixels wide to 500 or so pixels wide, but they maintain the correct ratio for the size of the font, so the font just falls off the bottom of the texture

my initial attempt was one big image for the background and the mobile devices would zoom it down and the text would scroll off the background to the underlying undecorated bgcolor, such as default white ,  so i had to use a repeating background in the body background to solve that

more than 12% of internet traffic is on mobile devices so i must get the page to work for mobile devices.  the current version of a51watcher's page works just fine but it has no golden shiny surface, just the brown sandy texture in the background.  which is okay but could use some pizzazz

this is the one that works in mobile devices, but because any kind of non-repeating background is zoomed down to fit the entire mobile device window, it makes decorating it further a problem
