Living here in Southern Ontario, I can tell you this is one bad ass storm.  Been a long time since we have had one this bad.  Looking at temp map of N America, it is as cold here as it is in southern US right now. (As far south as Nashville TN)  At least we are prepared to battle old man winter up here, I feel bad for the homeless.  Hope they can find shelter to get through this.

Al Gore must be on the run!

Temps are in Far.
The only people in the world, it seems, who believe in conspiracy theory, are those of us that have studied it.    Pat Shannon

How cold is it ?

It is so cold it froze the lake of fire in the bible!    ;D

As the Human race goes , I don't think we have not had that many times in our past to experience it..In the past there was little education if any...At least today we know a lot more..but it may be just as hard to predict it even with our technology..

That is a very interesting point you make Astro in regards to Human Experience and History as for the most part down here in the southern hemisphere the icy region better known as antartica really has only been explored in the last 100 odd years enmasse.

I posted a documentry here awhile back in regards to Aussie Aboriginals.  The experts in that doco seem to think that they went through an ice age which changed their diet quite dramatically.

I would hap hazard a guess that regions closer to the pole's/jet steams are experiencing kinda odd weather as it seem's other parts of australia are business as usual ?   :-\

...and meanwhile, we in europe have had the warmest January on record, average 14 C during the day, and still not freezing at night.
I can walk about outside in just a T-shirt :o

They say the cold front's moving this way, so i guess temp is going to plummet dramatically.

Trouble is, half the trees have gone into bloom already, they think it's spring!.... :o
Have they been playing that HAARP again ???

Thats interesting PWM, as my over wintered Chili's are taking so long to ripen.  I usually in all case's find Chili plants that i have grown to really mature early and ripen in december.  This the plant's are growing like mad due to some amazing fertilizer I bought a few month's ago yet the plant's havn't had a couple of weeks of solid temp's to bring out the lush red hotness!  >:( :o

Yes, seasons all gone to hell it seems ::)

My little olive tree got a bad case of frostbite in November when it suddenly got cold. So it's now on life support in the attic :(.
...and it suddenly got warmer again.. ???

Now they tell us there's a 'severe cold spell' on the way :P

pretty damn cold here..we were going to take this greenhouse down come spring
(30' x 20' way too big for us anymore)
looks like the wind did it for us...sigh..but we have to go gather the plastic that is everywhere right now

they are saying we have a wind chill of 30 below zero....i believe it
wouldn't be too bad out there if it wasn't for the wind...NASSS-TEE

keep warm peoples..and help anyone who is in need..someday it might be us

Indeed! My heart goes out to you all     :-*
Well said, Sky :D

Damn, i am denied even the simple pleasure of building a snowman, which i like doing, & the neighbours kids love them.
"What's the crazy Englishman doing now?"

To those that need it, stay warm.

Here in Portugal things are warmer, now it's 21:25 and the thermometer outside my window points to 11ยบ C. :)

Same here  We only got 2 nights of frost and barely that. The Canna liilies are already starting to com up again

Been in the 60F+ range most of December  Really odd for us  Probably means a fortune in AC this summer

Yeah my wife picked THIS year to fly home to Toronto   ::) Coming back she was delayed 6 hours with storms

Thing is people do not understand this "Global Warming" thing

Global warming is a changes of a few degrees over the AVERAGE temp taken on a global average over a year.  A 5 degree change over that time frame is enough to make an ice age.

Al Gore is WRONG that mankind is causing it...

BUT Global Warming is real. It is a natural cycle.

Global warming also allows for sudden extreme cold snaps and other weird weather like we are seeing around the world

Glaciers, mountain snow banks and polar ice caps have been getting smaller each year.  This adds fresh water to the ocean, which in turn changes ocean current temperatures, which in turn drive super storms, which in turn trigger an ice age

The Movie "A Day After Tomorrow" though exaggerated a little, shows EXACTLY how this mechanism works... and more importantly HOW FAST the change comes.

Don't forget that they found Mastodons frozen in the ice still chewing their last meal

The Ice Core samples taken at Lake Vostok, Antarctica reveal a 415,000 year temperature record. Ice core samples like tree rings do not lie nor have a political agenda. And 415K years is long before we came along with greenhouse gases and cow farts.

Look at the graph... you will notice that the Earth's warm periods are small compared to very long cold periods... you will notice the SHARP incline and drastic change when the pendulum swings... and you will notice where we are on the timeline

Chemtarilas, Geoengineering, the Doomsday Seed Vault and even GMO plants... these are all an attempt to delay this or to survive it (despite the evil money grubbers cashing in on it :P )

My advice? Move south, get a wood stove, and stock up on essentials that are not perishable and firewood :D

Some one needs to kick al gore in the azz cause global warmin ain't happenin here in green bay.

Yesterday the high was -12 below and last night it dropped to -19 as you can see from my temp gauge.

Today it got up to -5 all day and in the  20 minutes since I snapped the images the temp has dropped to -8 as of right now.

Funny thing, this week end its gonna get up to 38 degrees
Everyone loves me, till they're sick of me
