You are on a mission.  You are an observer for an advanced race of aliens that are watching planet Earth and they have sent you to the planet to investigate human behavior.  They are concerned.  Earth is a remarkable biosphere with an amazing diversity of life and humans seem intent on murdering each other and destroying this blue oasis.  They are trying to decide whether or not to allow mankind to continue in their destructive ways, or if humans should be eradicated in an effort to preserve the planet.

Should humans be allowed to continue on their present path or should the planet cleansed of them?

What say ye?

To eradicate a planet because they think we are all murderers would also make them murderers. So that is a no win. Just as easy to send us all back to the stone age by removing the tech. Or take some away and drop them on another planet. So leave or take the good ones. If they had any sence they would have already taken enough of the life off here to start another world so it survives.

Sgt.Rocknroll

If they're that advanced, then why would they give a crap about this place?....with billions, and billions, and billions, and billions, of other interesting places to visit...me thinks we take ourseleves wwwaaaaayyyy too seriously..... ;D

Yes, it has been written that it happened before.   Gilgamesh has a terrible time...oops wrong book!  lol

But you have a point there Norval.  Someone passed judgement before.  Are we more worthy today?  Maybe the conditions we have here on Earth are not so common in the universe.  If the creator is an alien.....

maybe they did it before...or I can go along Norval...lets say it was the big G.

Again...are we more worthy today.  Maybe we are not deemed worthy to leave this planet.  Maybe we are going to be cleansed again...

Sometimes I think we may be fatally flawed...that in the long run we will doom ourselves...

But...if you were that advanced scout....what would you say?  Do YOU find human beings worthy?  Would you argue for the preservation of mankind?  What say ye?

I'd wipe us out. We aren't really worth the destruction of the planet.

Depends on just how rare inhabitable resource rich planets are.  Someone out there might just decide this gem of a planet is wasted on us, and worse yet we're f-ing it up.
Time is the fire in which we burn.

Nah we are not really fvcking it up. Hu-mons have only been at it a few thousand years. The Planet has a built in cleansing mechanism.  The Dino's were rulers here for over 400 MILLION years. They too were cleansed and in a few millenia the planet was clean again :D  Ma Nature has TIME on her side :D

And all the nukes? Don't foget that all that radioactive material came FROM the earth in the first place. It is what keeps the core molten :D

Wewll if it was ME  :P

I would put up a psi barrier and block Hu-mons from getting too far off planet and keep their psi abilities in check...

sorta make it a prison planet and impede their ability to learn to use the Force beyond a few minor parlor tricks

On the fence on this issue.
I prefer the experiment should go on.

I do think a big earthquake could take out most nuke plants at once.
This creates unusable land.thus forcing us into high density populations that fight over food.

As lousy as I feel today, I vote for putting me out of my misery.  I'm drugged on cold medicine, so I'm not coherent enough to vote about anything for anyone else.  Maybe later.

I also think that some will get off world this time ;D

Not strictly true there Boss. Nature supplied a certain amount of nuclear material but it took human ingenuity to figure out how to make it breed more. The elephant in the room is that there is now FAR MORE radioactive material on the planet than we started with.

As for the original question, if there are super intelligent aliens OR God keeping an eye on us and giving us every chance to redeem ourselves and stop ruining the biosphere, they are leaving it a bit late to act.

By several accounts I have read, we have pretty much ruined the south pacific now.

What amazes and astounds me is  the complete lack of common sense being shown by more than a handful of people about nuclear power plants. It's obvious they are about as safe as a case of hand grenades in a kindergarten sandpit. So we need to shut em down and stop doing it. That means until the inventors group make good on our promise, humanity needs to rethink how we use energy.

For example: At casa Fruitbat, where all the lights are on, belinda carlisle is coming out of the stereo and your author is typing away on one of them electrical computers there is a total indicated pretty much constant 24/7 draw of 300watts.  To genrate that much power using whichever racial minority I mange to enslave pedalling on treadmills would require a team of at least 7 nubians! that's two teams of three averaged sized and one big muscly one for when I want to turn the volume up. And you'd still need battery backups to do the loadsharing.  (in reality I'm not sure that even 7 would be enough, because even nubians might unable to sustain 12 hours of uninterrupted pedalling per day).

IN a nutshell, we in the west constantly use more energy than we are capable of making, which is just hideously unbalanced. And we have exported our lifestyles and aspirations to the rest of humanity along with the technological means to live wildly out of balance with nature... I hate to say it, but them injuns are looking far smarter than whitey gives em credit for...

The only POSSIBLE  way forward if we want to live the way we do currently, is to drastically (and quickly) reduce the numbers of human beings...

Even if Chris, Luke and I solve the energy problem tomorrow, just the manufacturing pollution will likely do us all in of we try and give every human being currently alive an iphone, laptop, car and fridge.... Assuming that there are enough raw materials available to do the job.

And don't forget the rubbish... Currently we solve the problem of what to do with all that out dated technology (like CRT displays and pentium 4 computers) by sending 'em off in containers to the third world. Once we all are first world, where will we send the old tat? OR who will actually do the recycling work? Roberts (robots) might bung cars together in seconds but it takes a load of pikeys to take em apart again...

I'll confess I don't know what the solution is, but I don't think that making more nuclear pollution is the answer. In fact its so not the answer that it staggers me how short sighted and dumb we are, to have not instantly decided en mass to shut all NPP's down and not build any more. But of course, we'd all have to use a lot less electricity.

If we all took our fair turns pedalling in the more believable 6 hour shifts that you might get out of a westerner at the point of a gun, then we are good for a constant draw of, ooh, 25 watts each.

My figures assume the the average human can make a constant 100watts at the pedals like I learned at school.
I also have minimised our impact on the environment by completely excluding our use of energy for heating, or travel.

CAN ANYONE BEGIN TO SEE THE PROBLEM?

Because most households I know have a bigger fridge than me, a tumble dryer, a TV set (which is often running 16 hours a day), run their heating hotter than I do, wash more often(!), and in short just GORGE more than I do.

You know I really don't know that we are so much cleverer than the native americans or afghan tribesmen.

Fortunately I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, so my worries are probably groundless.

If I was an advanced race representative, I would likely have an awareness of the havoc that is wrought when a system is in place that promotes the most ruthless, allows thereby life-and-death power over Others to the Ones at the top, and allows therefore choices implemented that are not in the interest (or desire) of the bulk of the inhabitants.  I would be able to see that it is the system in place that allows the psychopaths to control knowledge (Others' perspectives), do psychopathic things and BLAME it on "Humanity," and otherwise beset the majority with ills.

I would see the vast majority as Ones who choose to help when They can, as Ones with no power but that of widespread choices (when true information is available), and in need of a new system.

I surely would not judge the whole on the choices made by a very few who have control of the system accounting for meaningful energy, with life and death hinged on finding a way to plug One's energy into the system.  I would see that the attitudes shown here that Humans are, as a whole, scum is a cultivated and even propagandized view derived from blaming "Humans" for the lies, propaganda, and poor behavior of a psychopathic few.  I would see that the average Jo(e) cares but has no power to change things.

The whole "Humans are bad" approach is erroneous.
