I am in the process of starting a new group called "Religious Discussion".  Members will only be allowed to join by request.  Nobody else will be able to see the discussion.  The only problem is appointing a mod lol.  Nobody is interested.

I do not want this site turning into a religious one.  There are plenty of those.  There are interesting topics about religion which we can still discuss.  No more preaching in public or arguments in public about religion.  The majority of members do not wish to see it.

I too glance at the religious posts. I seek those that are sitting on the fence that might be interested in my point of view and want to learn something

Its just that those have have already been indoctrinated feel the need to tell everyone else that they are right

Well a mod is simply assigned to a forum by admin adding the name of that person... and that gives you limited mod powers in that area only...

Also to remember that if a topic is in a private area, then it is more open to the back and forth arguments because those participating in that area have chosen to do so.

The only issue I had was that the debate was over shadowing the entire forum, completely burying our real topics in the public view.

I also want to point out that many forums have been deliberately destroyed by people coming in specifically to create drama and tension between members

We all recall the last event that did just that.

The argument of religion will never be solved in a forum. And sadly there will always be those who prefer to preach and try to convert, rather than just give their point of view

Indeed, its beyond a forum, but if some want to banter, it may open some eyes through the effort.

Well currently you have set permission for the existing Relgious forum in the General area to be viewed only by a select( appointed) group.  In effect THAT does the same thing as starting a new group called "Religious Discussion"

So no further change is required. You just took that area off everyone view by doing that (save admin)  You even had global mods turned off

Also once the area is in the private room. no mods will really be necessary except to keep it civil... the whole purpose of the private room concepy\t is you can allow more leeway to the combatants without it derailing the forum

ts really a win win situation... except for those people who have an agenda to be on the public soap box to attract attention and distract focus.

Now I am sure we have no one like that here right? So it should not be an issue

I have assigned the following members access already...

Rdunk, Edlogic, Amaterasu, LittleEnki, Undo (and all Global mods) and Petrus so far.

For those people it will continue to show in recent posts, Any staff wishing not to see it must select 'ignore board" option in member profile. I cannot turn off recent post because that would mean members in that room would not see activity

I will scan the religious threads momentarily to see any other active participants and PM them their choice. I will shortly put a notice up showing the available forums on PRC and what is requires to participate with a note on how to apply for access to the respective areas.

Anyone else seeking access simply PM us or post in here
