Lucky you, with the Laser Pointer.
They banned them here, after some tools decided to shine them into opposing team batsmen at the cricket and football.
What they don't know won't hurt them.
With liquid cooling, I can PWM a Laser diode to produce 1KW pulses!!!  ;D

Yes very wise with the duty cycle, I would not run it for more than 30 seconds myself as that is going to be some serious heat to disperse. I thought perhaps it may use a Peltier to cool it but i imagine it will have a huge heat sink and plenty of cooling paste. And the housing will be a great heat sink too.I like the design.Kind of "RETRO"

Thing is with even a 10 mw laser they can leave you with permanent eye damage just by looking at the beam reflected off a white wall in say your home without the correct laser glass's.

I know you will respect the beast Robo, and you may be correct,They may become good investments for the future IF they got banned. The great thing is at the moment the price just keeps dropping as more of the parts get produced. The 1st blue one to hit the market was around £1000 and consisted of a sony bluray diode bodged together.I had a megga laser obsession years ago Robo, infact it got a little out of hand. I was obsessed for a while and just learnt as much as i could about these great things.Started off as a hobbie, quite an expensive one at that.

I think you have made the correct decision in waiting and assessing your options and buying the best rather than learning the hard way like so many have done, spending there hard earned cash on all the cheap crap from china only to find out it's a massive disappointment.

I LOVE LASERS ;D have you seen NIF's PETAWATT  LASER? it's a bit like the old ruby pumped type as it uses huge flashlights to boost the light up to the power of a small star.ZORGON has this covered over at thelivingmoon jack Arneson's work i think, very interesting. Though we are out of the "handheld relm"here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4Cb7iqaN91c

Well it look's like Starwarper is the man to mod my laser acquisition whilst in Taiwan recently :D

Picked up this mongrel pig of a weapon that has Twin Laser Engine's along with Multi Pulse LED Blast Charge's.  Oddly though I came to realise they are pointed the wrong direction  :o :D

LOL

Next thing they will think of is HARRP on Bike :D

On a serious note Stealthy, I must admit to not trying them out on a ride yet.  The Laser's work well but I am sorta dissapointed by the Multi-Pulse LED blaster Engine compared to what I run now ;)

stealthyaroura

Soma you want a couple of them there avatar horns strapped to ya bars LOL
Now THAT would be most awesome.

they actually had a real ruby laser pointer w ir filter on laser pointer forums last week.all the guys were drooling over it.i think it was over a thousand$.
right now they have a green 900mw thats caused a small stir.he wants 600$.thats alotta friggin power for a green.kinda mind numbing if you got hit with it probly.
i think times are hard so folks are letting go of some deals.
there a guy in australia named mccrouse that helps out over there.you can find him at lpf also.just go to buy sell trade under the forums.click on what you like.avatars pop up with country of origin or state .i think there are at least two guys down under.just ask and i will help you out as its a little crazy over at that site.took me two months to even understand what was going on.they also real bitchy sometimes and hard core on the search first . then ask questions.this is my home but i hover over there sometimes.

I had a link in the thread about laser laws. Ebay no longer allows any lasers on auction over the 5 milliwat cheap ones. I like the wickedlasers.com/artic laser at 300 bucks but I'm afraid it will intercepted and hi-jacked in customs as they have been doing just that on imports of high power lasers to the US.

ebay .thanks.
theres only one chinese seller i trust .that is lazerer.he is also a member of lpf.type that name and he has lotsa badass ones.he has a chart that explains it pretty good.its near the bottom of most pages on the site.what does this laser do.click on it and it gives all the colors and power levels and what they can burn.great chart.wickeds prices are for people who dont know.i can get way higher quality and guarantees from lpf members.they hate wicked for ripping people off.not trying to sell for them.just saying.
i started this thread though.to inform members of something i personally didnt realize existed.i was amazed.these things are more dangerous than a gun and can do way more things.i would personally recommend one of these over a gun anyday except in war.for a typical street protection.this is the bomb.and a charge on battery last a long time from what ive read.this is basically an info thread for the members.im surprised how many others are familiar w this subject.

QuoteA hand-held pointer over 5 mW is illegal to sell in the USA, period. Regs per IEC 825 in Europe are even tougher. The CDRH hasn't caught up with everyone yet, but the fines are big, and they'll force a product recall. (If you don't have records of who bought your product, ship dates and serial numbers, you've got a second problem.) Even pointers under 5 mW require a "variance" document with respect to certain CDRH regulations, and require a CDRH accession number.

Calling it an OEM product (with disclaimer of non-compliance) still doesn't fly, because the law applies to any "removable laser system." The only time you can sell a non-compliant removable system is when you can site the purchasers CDRH accession number for the end product.

Claiming "shipping damage that resulted in increased power" also doesn't fly, because CDRH regs require designs in which system failure cannot result in exceeding the specified classification.

Some have sold the laser 'head' and 'power supply' separately as a kit. If one can reasonably attach the pieces without specialist tools, etc. -- even the KIT has to comply (and be certified, and have an accession number).

Having lived with these laws as a manufacturer, I can tell you that there aren't any cute and clever loopholes. Sooner or later they'll get your number. People will show up at your door and start packing your files and PCs into the back of a white van with government plates, and you'll be calling your attorney from your car phone, because they won't let you back into your office. It's like export regs, you can fly under the radar screen for a while, but once they find you...

If you want to screw with the companies selling this stuff, ask for the CDRH accession number for the product in question, along with any variance numbers under which they are shipping the specified product.

Its ok for cops and military to shine one in your eyes but you better not do that or ya go to jail. They were using them in merry old england to burn out the eye on the pole spy cams.

I admire you for having access to one of these but they intercept them at customs bound for the states. 5 mw is as big as they legally allow here in the states.
