Yeah, i'm starting to think like this guy (rubs hands together)

robomont

leave it on to long?
if you even turn that thing on .you better have something between it and your house.that thing will probly burn a hole instantly through your house.that frequency is nothing but hellfire .
im not an expert but my guess that thing would instantly cut a finger off.get some real safety goggles not the cheap stuff.its invisible and even the reflection would burn your corneas completely off.
my mind is blown.

Damn right you are 8) these shades won't do ::)

That's why it has remote control & a camera.
It was originally in a steel cabinet painted matt black on the inside with a 1 inch steel plate under the work surface.
Reflections can be a real problem, but i do have lots of IR sensors lying around so i can rig an alarm that beeps if they get a reflection.
I also need filters to block out visible light.

Certainly it's no toy, & i'm tempted to sell it seeing it's worth so much... :)

NAH! NEVER!
Teeheeheeheehee :D

I'm going to seriously try burning the PRC logo into the garden shed though ;D :o ::)

PLAYSWITHMACHINES

I also took a peek to see if i could place a small red laser in there to help with alignment & tell me where the IR beam will hit, but there's no space unless i dismantle the mirror unit so i won't do that.

I first need to get more data on the exact system, it's an older one so not much data on it, but it's similar enough to the Baasel Lasertech L200 series to work with.
And i'm guessing the scan head is much like a plotter program, like a serial printer but faster...

ETA: keyboard dying...

robomont

that laser is a small business in itself.
i would think thats cool if you can make it burn a pegasus logo.
get it to scan a pic and then place object in mount and bam.
i would have it set up in a small room that you can close door and then fire.kinda like hospitals and xray machines.

you may be able to sell custom engraving.maybe put flyers at print shops and machine shops.
maybe take a silver coin.smash it flat and engrave w logo.then sell to us folks on here.to the ones that arent broke .lol.

Like 1 "Abundance Credit" LOL

" I promise to pay the bearer with info and to help them in any way i can"

Yep it would be nice to get it cased up & working, it means i won't be able to fit that Colchester 2000 lathe in the shed (trying to save up for my Dream Machine) but what the heck, if i could make some extra cash from it?

GOLD for that idea, mate!

Of course, folks can send me stuff to have the PRC logo burned in it, free of charge, as long as you pay the postage :P

Can make it mobile, anyway ::)

robomont

if we ever had the pegasus university or campus.it would be a showpiece and lab equipment.but i would easily understand if you sold it.thats one fine piece of equipment.maybe lease it to a machine shop.that way you own it and make some money on the side.whatever you do all i can say is you lucky dog you.

If it's any consolation, i pulled a ligament getting it up the stairs, it's been bloody painful the last few days.
But i managed to get most of the wiring figured out, missed an opto connection though, i have another type which may or may not work.
And software will be the next hurdle...
But i'll definitely keep it for the campus, LMAO

Have to stash it again before the wife gets home ::)
Later!

P.S. Oh yes, it needs 3-phase, so i'll have to get one of my big inverters fired up & use a big transformer in between.....

If i can't do that i may as well sell it, but i'd rather chop off my leg first :P

robomont

3phase?that was definely built for a factory.its a shame its not two phase.150watts aint that much power.good luck gettin it going.keep us updated on its rebirth and future.i dont want to harp on laserpointer forums but they also have buy sell forum that works great if you get in a bind and have to sell it.personally i hope you dont.
maybe mount it on your roof and use it as a anti theft device.

Yes it needs about 10 kilowatts :o

Good idea, or at least i can shoot down those darned black choppers overhead, LOL
But i'm drunk now, 7 days without a drop takes it's toll..........
Read my reply tomorrow,
Sleep well, freinds,

Amy;
Yes it's love, but the dangerous kind, this thing can drill a hole in my butt in no time & i won't even see it ::) Luckily it has all kinds of safety stuff built in, i will be able to operate from a safe distance by remote.

Robo;

Yes the forums may be an option, ive seen a few but they are all hobby type Helium, ruby, diode etc. Quite a few gas lasers, but nothing like this.

The 150w is quite a lot when compressed into a 0.5mm beam, it was commissioned for high speed engraving on forged steel components.
Bad news: I also cut through 2 fibre optic cables which i thought were co-ax, Aaaarrggghhhh!

Good news: I'm going back there next week for another job so i will be able to ask the chief engineer if he still has the paperwork on it, here's hoping ::) Damn fool i was i should have hunted that down last time, but i'm there to work as well :D

More good news: I will be demolishing 2 more production lines, so more goodies to go in the batcave, which i just tidied up...

Oh dear, energy vs. entropy the same old battle.

So a whole new aladdins cave awaits me, LOL and i'm just getting the wife used to the idea of a BIG laser....before she sees it ;D

3-phase isnt a problem, i have enough gear to build 50Kw systems now 8)
....and it was all free, it just needed my time & energy to get it home....

That's what i call a true 'abundance paradigm'

Capacitors worth 200 dollars each
Transistors from 800 bucks each
Vacuum pumps, air cylinders, plc's computers (even a touch screen with XP)
Transformers for 200 amps at 400 volts.
30+ M12 and M8 plugs for the SensTesters (valued at 6.50 each) and millions of resistors switches leds chips you name it.
2 measuring lasers, 2 ultrasonic, 1 radar & countless magnetic & optical sensors....several miles of cable....

And now this big mutha laser, cool 8)

It's just amazing what companies throw away because they cant fix it or it is out of date :o

Their loss is my gain :P

robomont

.5 mm? that things even more evil.thats alot of power in a small dot.lets get it going and then we can create samples and send to you.we could make a giant thread.things that burn and things that dont burn.lol.now to get a gas chromatograph .

do you just need fiber of a certain length or special fiber ?
ill try to help on this end if i can.

It was a video-type send/recieve line i think :(
Need to get more docs first, otherwise open it up, write down chip numbers & go to 'datasheetarchive.com' but that all takes up time....

Thanks for the offer & i will definitely YT the results so you can all see it.

Yes i would like to see what burns, LOL, Tesla found calcium to be very incandescent.

Not sure which kind of fibre or signal right now, but i will find out soon, keep you posted as usual ;)

Now i need to get my hands on an old blu-ray ::)
